(Copy and paste from Characters.Doctor Who New Series Companions Discussion)

Removed this. Even if she's a valid example, the example in question is under scrutiny and almost making her a scapegoat. This isn't saying the opinion of whether or not Rose is a good or bad companion is wrong, mind. That's up to the individual.

  • While we're on the topic of the Doctor's companions, Rose could be a bit of a bitch to Mickey as well. She abandoned him for a year (accidentally making him a murder suspect), kept disappearing for months at a time, and got mad when she heard that he was dating someone else. This quote from when she first leaves with the Doctor illustrates this:
Rose: Thanks.
Mickey: For what?
Rose: Exactly.

No, the months at a time thing is probably the fault of the driver, especially as it's a time machine that can theoretically arrive 12 hours after their last stop off (and I think in The Lazarus Experiment, it DID). Plus, as much of a burn the "exactly" quote is, a lot of characters treat him that way. I think even his parallel universe double does that.

Another point: complaining when Mickey has a girlfriend? Picking the scene line-by-line, it's not as clear-cut as that.

She got mad because Mickey was dating someone she called "nice", and also knew was completely incompatible. When Rose says that he doesn't even like the woman, Mickey says "At least I know where she is" and that he can't be with a "stupid woman from a shop" because of how he runs for Rose every time she returns to present-day Earth. From this, along with only mentioning the "other woman" after Rose catches Mickey up on where she's travelled to and after Mickey suggests a hotel room, it's very strongly implied that Mickey isn't seeing someone.

Mickey is far more unpleasant, conclusion-jumping, not to mention clingier than the worst of Rose's moments, at least here. Regardless of how to take the "exactly" line from the episode "Rose", it was a messy breakup, and when Mickey walks off at the end of "Boom Town", she basically lets him go rather than continue dragging him through the mud (which I'd argue is more Mickey's perception than actual fact). If she has her bad decisions, she is not consistently horrible, and clearly wants to give it another chance (she still doesn't consider herself and the Doctor an item), but the world ending and Mickey's pride arguably got in the way.

Examples? It doesn't seem like you understand the meaning of this trope. It's not a bout a character who is a bitch/you think is a bitch. It's about a character that pretends to be nice and sweet, but is really nasty and manipulative.

Ok, does someone want to say why the many comments that were left here asking for the name of this trope to be changed were deleted?

^Because this isn't the proper place (It's Trope Repair Shop) and because they are too weak for a rename.

The fact that it's sexist and offensive is "weak"? Incredible.

SeptimusHeap MOD (Edited uphill both ways)

^Yes. "It's offensive" has since ever been a "not a reason to rename" thing. This goes extra if the word has over time lost its connotations, and here we have already lost much of the "questionable" meaning.

According to Wikipedia, the name has different connotations depending upon context. Just because it's offensive in some contexts does not mean it is to be renamed here.

^Legitimate or not:

  • It's a topic for the forums, not the discussion pages.
  • The policy is very clear that "offensive" is not a reason to rename something.
  • The name is offensive for a reason.

Doe the girl from Elfen Lied (the one who told the bullies) count? There is speculation that Lucy might have been so upset and angry that she saw a smile that didn't exist. There's reasonable evidence for both sides.

Could we change the name of this trope?

"Bitch" is a very loaded term to use to describe a woman. Most women have experience with it being used against them in extremely threatening ways. It's a very violent term, and it drives women away from wanting to see the wiki.

In terms of confusing tropers, it leads people to think it's only-female.

This has come up before. Many people, including women, voted no on changing it because quite frankly the thought is ridiculous.

Also it follows the same format as A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, metaphorical canines. The difference being that a wolf is more dangerous, while the bitch's bark is worse than its bite. Besides, bitch has been applied as a verb to both genders, making it more gender neutral than you seem to think _influencethis. Oh, and its not like this wiki doesn't use other trope names with gender specific and insulting titles in gender neutral and inoffensive ways, like in Magnificent Bastard, a term used in similar derogetory ways towards men that has been applied in context to those villians of all genders who manage to endear themselves to us through the style and pizzaz of their villainy, no matter how vile it gets.
