I'm surprised no one has mentioned Zaeed Massani in Mass Effect 2. He actually uses the line "...so we can all be big goddamn heroes..." when he meets Shepard.

Until the protagonist's estranged brother and a couple dozen Jewish soldiers arrive at the last moment to kill the Germans.
