The LM games use the setting as a default, but tend to mix it up with other settings, especially in Dark Moon and 3, so they're worth keeping.
EDIT: In fact, that's why the examples present are those of the sequels, while the first game is only referenced indirectly.

Question, to my understanding Big Boo's Haunt is a horror-themed level in a game that isn't horror-themed normally. However, I do see horror and horror-themed games pop up here, such as Luigi's Mansion. Would Luigi's Mansion be an example, given that that whole game is about ghosts and such?
