I deleted these examples, because their tropes are on the No Real Life Examples, Please! index.

  • Big Bad Duumvirate: With Adolf Hitler
  • Fascist, but Inefficient: The Trope Namer. Ironically, because this is the man who was said to have "made the trains run on time." (They actually didn't. Neither do Modern Italian trains. Not even the high-speed ones.)
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Many intellectuals, including so-called "progressive" thinkers (even Franklin Delano Roosevelt) praised him for his handling of the Great Depression in Italy, and Mussolini himself described corporatism as being similar to the New Deal. That said, these days, "progressives" don't like fascism.
    • The odd thing is that Mussolini had actually been a socialist (albeit a patriotic one) before the war, at a time when "socialist" and "communist" were not so clearly defined and frequently used interchangeably (among Marxists, anyway).
    • A worrying number of people in Italy still seem to think he was a great leader, including many prominent intellectual and political figures.

In the War Is Glorious entry, it's remarked that Mussolini was a reporter and not a soldier. While he had been a reporter before entering politics, Mussolini served in World War I as a Bersagliere, Italy's assault light infantry.
