Should the Bones reference in Real Life be moved to Live Action Tv, or is it fine where it is?

Wouldn't using metal gloves (or other kinds of hand protections) to block a blade means that it's not barehanded?

It was done in the Japanese film 'Versus'. Amusingly you can tell the sword was nowhere near hitting him, therefore he was out of range and caught the blade unnecessarily.
