Going by the page text, I think this trope is about a previously Badass Normal gaining new powers by any means, whereas Charles Atlas Superpower is strictly about gaining powers through intense physical training.

Since it comes up several times.. I thought I read that Batman was unable to use a Green Lantern ring, since you have to have control of your fear, and Bruce basically runs on fear.

I do remember seeing him "will" himself a Green Lantern-themed Batman costume once when Hal got him to wear his ring.

But Bruce IS about the fear...to the point where when the fear-powered Sinestro Corps goes recruiting, guess who gets picked as Sector 2814's Corpsman?
