Edit: Links won't work, I guess. There's a thread in the Projects: Long Term/Perpetual forum about it.
Basically, almost every "Badass X" trope is being cut.
Edited by caivu My stories on AO3.To be more specific: There's two ways to look at Badass Gay.
- It's a page about "badass + X trait" with no connection, which makes it People Sit on Chairs.
- It's a "badass despite X trait" page, which is allowed (see also Badass Normal, Pregnant Badass, and many others). But in nearly every case, the work doesn't have any kind of in-universe stigma about how gay people can't kick ass, meaning that the wiki, not the work, is the one enforcing that stigma.
Either way, this just isn't a viable trope.
Edited by SeracI have a gripe with how the suggested tropes are largely physical + mannerisms-oriented... It seems like Ambiguously Gay was cleaned up so it's not just about physical appearance, but now Badass Gay "subtropes" are oriented toward appearance and mannerisms. Imo it'd be good to change it up. (Plus I always saw the trope as a cool flex versus enforcing stigma, like Cool Old Guy.)
Edit: May try to launch some tropes at some point that are more hyper-specific but less physical/mannerism-oriented.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe Homestuck section is far from encompassing. It misses Karkat, Vriska, Aranea, Meenah, Gamzee, Mindfang, and various members of The Felt (depending on how badass they've got to be in order to qualify).
Do Korra and Asami really play this trope straight? They're both bisexual rather than gay, based on what we see of them in the series.
Hide / Show RepliesI saw the trope Badass Bisexual used in a couple of character pages, being redirected here.
Would Ripper from Mass Effect: Interregnum be considered? Since you know, he can rip krogans in half with his BRAIN, and in a later chapter, shows him in bed in another male Turian's bed after getting hammered?
The common subversion of Camp Gay is Straight Gay.
Hide / Show RepliesThat is some fantastic writing right there. I imagine the thinking was something along the lines of: Okay, so we have a trope.
Support stupid freshness, yo.Why has no one put a picture of Captain Jack Harkness on the main page?
We don't want JAFAAC. Anyone got a picture of him hugging/kissing a guy while holding a gun or something?
How about this from Homestuck? http://www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=6&p=007150
Edited by DaemonBomb honlI believe Bentham or Iwankov from One Piece are more illustrative examples. Gayness is self evident, all you need is a picture where they look badass.
We are the shadow. We are the void. There is no escape.Does a character have to be explicitly gay to qualify for this trope? If there's a strong homosexual subtext to the character's portrayal, would that be enough to qualify?
