Hello. Stray here.

I was wondering why real life examples catagory and other examples contain real-life examples altogether? For example: Real life page had an example about nintendo, but video game also had nintendo examples as well. Shouldn't we merge some of the examples from real life page and include an in-universe examples section?

Huh... you have a valid point, actually.

I have little experience distributing examples into categories, though.

Is there any sorts of recency thresholds regarding this and works that are ongoing? As in, something that has a lot of preamble for failure, ends up launching as a smash hit, but ends up dwindling in quality and support over time?

Just citing the example that got me thinking; one of the YMMV pages for Overwatch recently removed an entry regarding the Overwatch League, an esports model for the game that started off successfully but as of late has petered off. The reasoning for the removal cites its recent decline, but it's like... does that count? Overwatch itself is in a pretty stagnant state due to production on 2 and Blizzard/Activision's corporate turmoil, should the remaining entry reflecting on the game itself in light of its initial success be removed because of it? Or does this trope just not accurately reflect the nature of long-term media that eventually loses interest?

Because yeah, some works that are designed to have a long shelf life eventually go away, whether they be serial franchises or live-service games. A natural decline shouldn't invalidate the phenomenon this trope entails, right? Or is there some kind of specific paradigm we can identify to ensure if the decline is relevant as nullifying success in a way that doesn't just happen with everything else where audiences lose interest?

I feel that the page as a whole needs some help; through the years I have seen so many shoehorns and at times it feels like this page is prone to being used as a "haha we totally owned those haters" opinion outlet rather than centering on BOTH sides of the audience reaction part of the entry (which is the entire point of YMMV). The fact that there's constant shoehorn of MCU, Pokemon and Nintendo related entries (which have a massive fanbase in this site) is suspect to me in this regard.

I really think some things in the Pokemon section need updating since there are people who feared that Pokemon Sword and Shield, for instance, would sell well due to brand recognition and hype. And that many of them were fearing exploitation since... well, Gamefreak and Pokemon Company had been and still are getting more cash grabby with separate DL Cs, Pokemon Home subscriptions, encouraging getting multiple games in order to get unique Gigantimax pokemon, ect.

In general, the Pokemon Sword/Shield thing was a lot more complicated than 'people thought it would fail' since there was some disquiet about the franchise as a whole and people feeling it was starting to stagnate after Generation 5. And some of the removed features and the explanations for them were... poorly received.
