Speaking of which, I'd like the difference between it and the Amen Break to be explained. They always sounded the same to me.
It doesn't need explaining. Find and listen to both original breaks. If you can't tell the difference after that... :-|
The Amen Break has ride cymbals and the brassy hit at the beginning while the Funky Drummer break doesn't.
Edited by DimaLeon2000Do we really need to list every song in the universe that has an amen break in it? It's so synonymous in music that it shouldn't really have any examples unless it's either notable, mentioned-in universe, or some variation of the two.
Quote 'Jungle and/or Drum-n-Bass are pretty much built entirely around the creative use of the Amen Break'
Not exactly. Breaks such as 'Think' and 'Hot Pants' are up there with the amen... each probably sampled on 50,000+ tracks, who knows. Which leaves me wondering WHY anyone would bother to try listing all the instances of amen samplage. From a quick scan of your list so far, you can't be anyway near 1% yet.
And you've really got your work cut out by including 2nd gen breaks like LTJ Bukem's - Demon's Theme, a composite of Isaac Hayes 'Breakthrough' + Amen brother breaks... known as the 'Demon's Theme' break in Dn B circles. Ironically the b-side of Demon's Theme, 'A Couple of Beats', has the amen in much purer form. You can have that one on the house. Another notable omission: PJ + Duncan's 'Let's Get Ready to Rumble' :-)
Video Game Examples are not showing up on the main page despite being in on the edit page. Someone fix this bug please.
Can we also have a page for the Funky Drummer break?
Probably should get working on that essay now... Hide / Show Replies
