What date is that strip from? It's a good showing of the trope but I'm sure we can find something bigger, can't we?
I have a thing that may or may not be an example of this trope: Bells from Glowfic (multiple versions of the same character, pluralized because there is a lot of them and they frequently meet) have a very strong privacy instinct - being constantly mind read, for them, is And I Must Scream and they won't want to read nonconsenting others' minds either to the point where one who gets a Power Incontinence version with a range makes sure her brother keeps all strangers away from that range and makes sure to tell people that the default is not wanting to be mindread and no pressure and she gets people to voluntarily cross the requisite distance.
But. When she or others with more voluntary powers mind read, they generally get pleasant thoughts as a reward and there are no dire secrets or terrible revelations involved. Indeed, Bells are frequently very pleased by how much the people around them like them.
What variation is this?
