Should we move Hole Diggers into Yogs Complete Pack? Or move everything from Jaffaquest onwards into that folder?

My reasons for doing this are that they essentially moved everything and started afresh.

Umm, wasn't Heroes of Mine always planned to be Martyn and Parv? I can't imagine that one recording session was enough to numb his brain. Martyn must have known about the confusion of complicated mod packs when he bailed on Tekkit (and went a long while between then and his series with Parv). Not to mention that this followed shortly after the end of Solutions in Chaos, and Martyn was VERY early on in constructing his house.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that Sjin's Farm isn't set in Galacticraft. They clearly message Duncan and Kim while they're in their videos about the party, and Sjin spawns at the farm after he dies in Lewis and Simon's series.

Didn't they explain somewhere that the nether portal is used to travel from the Yogscast Complete pack "overworld" to the "age 18" thing (via the nether)? Also, I'm pretty sure Duncan and Kim's series explicitly says that everything from the heavy snowfall onwards is a brand new server.

The video description of Hannah's Evicted! series links to Sjin's Farm as a Yogscast Complete series (as well as MarsQuest and Duncan and Kim's series, but that wasn't from the first episode).

Also episode 106 of JaffaQuest refers to a "server change" where the sheep John Rambo vanished from Baked Bean Fart, which is presumably what happened in the shift from MoonQuest to YCP.

I added Hat Films' Feed the Beast series, as though it's separate to the Tekkit/YogCraft server, it's an ongoing Minecraft series following Hat Films becoming part of the Yogscast family. Would it make sense to add their older, finished series retroactively (i.e. ones produced and released while they weren't Yogscast members)?

Moved from Yogscast.

This appears to be misuse of the trope as "person namechecks TV tropes", when it's more "famous people you don't expect to be a geek, is a geek" and that it also says it's unecesarry to include examples which are from invariable sources of geekdom like sci-fi and fantasy writers (or people that started this channel as an extension of a WoW guild that eventually became their livelihood through playing other games)

Given the long time between Israphel episodes, is it fair to even say that the "bulk" of BlueXephos episodes are the Israphel saga? In terms of both episodes and timespan, Tekkit's surpassed it.

I'm considering splitting off the Tekkit series. As Rythian and Zoey's series is (as far as I can tell) the only one with substantial scripting and plotting (there's a little bit on the BlueXephos channel with Pig Island and the Sips Co. rivalry, but not much, and it's still undeniably a Tekkit Let's Play), should that have a page all to itself?

I think it ought to be separated as well beacuse there are a great deal of tropes that link to the series specifically, including characterization of members such as Duncan which would be a direct contrast to the Blue Xephos channel tekkit.

A page might be a bit overkill, though; I'd say that a separate folder would be sufficient.

I've separated tropes by series but still left it under the tekkit folder, by all means reshuffle anything you see fit.

Anyone have any suggestions for updating the page image for the Minecraft series? Since it's really quite old, and they do have some nicer pictures available.

I was thinking of putting their avatar pictures from their YouTube channels in the character page too, but I'm not sure where to find those pictures in a larger size.

Here's the avatar pictures in a larger size, though I'd argue that for the character page, IRL pictures or screenshots of the Minecraft avatar would be more fitting.

Okay, having this many examples for Wham Episode seems to be diluting the term. It can't be anything that slightly makes you go "oh?", can it?

  • Season 1 Episode 7: Someone else is on the server
  • Season 1 Episode 17: Said someone else appears. And they are not friendly
  • Season 1 Episode 22: Not only that, there's and entire town of "NPC's"
  • Season 1 Episode 24: Reverend_John is evil
  • Season 1 Episode 26: Israphel has kidnapped Daisy_Duke and has an entire castle built under Terrorvale
  • Season 1 Episode 27: Israphel came through Simon and Lewis' Nether Portal, and now he's taken Daisy with him
  • Season 3 Episode 4: Old_Peculiar was cursed by Israphel and is now dying.
  • Season 3 Episode 9: Old_Peculiar's father sacrificed himself to seal a Nether Portal
  • Season 3 Episode 10: Mistral City burns down, and Skylord_Lysander is a traitor
  • Season 3 Episode 11: Granny_Bacon is turned into a Zombie and Simon and Lewis have to kill her.
  • Season 3 Episode 14: The Sand is evil, and Knight_Peculiar is a member of and order dedicated to fighting it.
  • Season 3 Episode 16: Simon and Lewis have to find the pieces of a map in order to stop an ancient evil beneath the Sands from awakening and destroying the world.
  • Season 3 Episode 23: Jock_Fireblast is the traitor and he only framed Lysander
  • Season 3 Episode 27: All the Skylords in Skyhold are dead except Vitali
  • Season 3 Episode 29: Because he killed them
  • Season 3 Episode 31: King_Finbar has been possessed by Israphel and has turned all the Dwarves in Stoneholm into Zombies except Moira_Magmabloom
  • Season 3 Episode 34: The evil (called the Sentinels) will wake up and destroy the world in 3 days and 7 hours
  • Season 3 Episode 35: Knight_Peculiar reveals that when he met Simon and Lewis he was about to commit suicide
  • Season 3 Episode 36: Knight Peculiar is the son of Karpath Antioch, and the new Templar King (whatever that means)
  • Season 3 Episode 38: The Sands are actually a prison for the Sentinels, and army of giant robots who Israphel is working for. And then Knight_Peculiar dies

I would remove season 3 episode 4, season 3 episode 9, season 3 episode 35, and season 3 episode 36. The others I'm not so sure about. I mean, surely not every plot twist is now a Wham Episode. And the very first spoiler is almost like a It Was His Sled thing now, isn't it?

Is the Tekkit series in-character enough to HAVE a Fourth Wall to break? I know they roleplay stuff like enjoying pork or feeling pain or having shares, but it still seems to be people playing Minecraft who are occasionally absent because they're on holiday away from playing Minecraft.

Near the end of the first Survival Games. Simon and Lewis fight against Toby and Martin with music from their series playing in the background. They fail anyway. Should we add a spoilered subverted example of Theme Music Power-Up in the appropriate folder?

As Sjin and Sips, who also fly under the Yogscast banner, have their own series, should they have their own page, or should this current one have its description tweaked?

I think a second set of pages for each of the individual Yogscasts' members YouTube accounts is best (as in, for every video they make with tropes, the tropes should be put on a separate page), since the current Yogscast pages are more-or-less set up that way (Main duo's on Yogscast and MC Adventures, Hannah and yogscast2 on Yogscast page).

This will save the work of major revision, and it'll be cleaner if we merely crosswick the Yogscast pages, for example making Yogscast an ambigious index or just a normal "Creator" page with all the relevant links and tropes spread throughout all the Yogiverse while moving the current content to WebOriginal.Yogscast.

For now, unless there's a significant amount of tropes/description that someone wants to turn into a new page immediately, we can either append random tropes about their series with a brief description at the bottom of Yogscast or this page, or we can just make a sandbox page and have a link to it here in the discussion for anyone wanting to slowly add content for a new page to launch.

I was just going to add an example from their show to Main.Yogscast, but then I realised it's...well, Minecraft.

Also, to further muddle things, it's not one contributor, but as with TotalBiscuit and Magicka, the channels alternate between Sjin and Sips' channel every other video. Also, the POV switches between Sips and Sjin each video, so it doesn't fall squarely into, say, WebOriginal.Yogscast Sjin OR WebOriginal.Yogscast Sips.
Darkaros

If there's enough content, can't a new page be split off from the (supposed) Yogscast Sjin / Yogscast Sips pages titled "Sjin And Sips Minecraft Adventures" or something? That's usually the way a lot of YouTube channels are organized, with a creator page with tropes spanning multiple series' and an actual works page for a series that has enough content (like this very page, to be honest). The TB + Yog Magicka and etc. series would eventually be split off to that, too, if it has enough tropes and Wiki Magic.

This is ironically more front-end work that intended, though, but it would probably be better for the future.

With the amount of Tekkit series now, it might be an idea to create a separate page for Yogscast Tekkit and just have multiple folders.

A Let's Play is someone playing a game while recording their commentary. Shadow of Israphel is Lewis and Simon playing a game, albeit with characters and a storyline developed by their friends, while recording their commentary. How is it not a Let's Play?

The custom maps are described as a "straight example," when the only thing that separates SoI from them is that the actors are involved, and they play the role of the NPC's in every RPG.

I'm thinking of removing the less-used Catchphrase examples. Specifically:

  • Simon's "oh crumbs!" (Not nearly as used as the other examples)
  • See you later, shitlord! (I've only heard him say this phrase with variations two/three times)

And shortening:
  • "Balls to it/this/that/'em/'im."
  • Have you/I think I've/We've/Have we/We're going to balls it up/ballsed it up/ballsed up/ballsed it up again/ballsed it up again, haven't you/I/we?
Somehow. Probably just make a footnote out of them saying "Balls to it" and "Ballsed it up" and a lot of variations, for the same reason all of the Diggy Diggy Hole examples got cut (There used to be 8 examples of just variations cluttering up the page).

Thoughts?

He says "See you later, shitlord(s)!" whenever he goes on a minecart ride, specifically on adventure maps. But I agree that he doesn't say those two catchphrases much.

You could just shorten it to " 'Balls to it' + variants " or some other way of implying he changes this up. But good luck with shortening up the last catchphrase. How about just " 'I think we've ballsed it up' (+ variants)" typed like that?

Going ahead and shortening since the "Ballsed it up" example has gotten to the point where it's just plain confusing. And removing "oh crumbs" while keeping "See you later, shitlord" since that one's still used.

On a related topic, what should be done about duplicating examples on the Yogscast and Yogscast Minecraft Series pages? (I see Catch Phrase, for one) Might split it off into its own page since it's now pretty sizeable (same with the grand list of Shout Outs).

I have some doubts about the Skyhold being classified as an Eternal Engine. It doesn't really fit with the trope description. What do other people think?
Darkaros
08:18:38 AM Sep 5th 2011
Hmm, I'm leaning towards agreeing with the Skyhold not being an Eternal Engine. While my memory's a bit off, I'm pretty sure that while the core (?) of the Skyhold acted as an engine to move it like an entire ship, there was no evidence that the Skyhold's various sections actually functioned as parts of a ship like in the trope description. It was really like the core was the engine of a floating platform that would let it move, rather than the entire thing was a working ship. There were definitely no "jutting out parts" that all the other examples on the trope page describe.

An Eternal Engine doesn't really work as a "reveal", as for it to count, the working parts would have to be in plain sight, even if their immediate functions aren't apparent. Most of what we saw were elemental-based challenges, an airport, an orchid, some houses and what appeared to be a rocky underside. Nothing engine-y outside of the control room, and even that was just a few panels and TV sets.

In the move from the Yogscast page, I have these questionable examples (as in, I'm only half-certain they don't qualify) and I'm not even sure what the second one means.

  • Ho Yay: There is large amount between them, considering they normally sleep right next to each other, are almost never apart, and live together in the same house.
  • Meaningful Name: Granny Bacon in a reverse Artifact Title way.
Darkaros
11:00:44 AM Jul 30th 2011
Ho Yay doesn't seem to count at all. That seems more like Heterosexual Life-Partners, which is already covered in the General section. Plus, the "Ho Yay" part of sleeping near each other is just game behavior.

Meaningful Name doesn't make sense to me either. Artifact Title seems to refer to series titles only, and even if taken in terms of character names it doesn't make sense beyond "she was named Granny_Bacon even when she was young in the Legend of Verigan special".
Ralphrius

I think the Meaningful Name part refers to Granny_Bacon dropping a huge amount of pork (thus, bacon) after she died.
