In the second chapter, Vernon finds out that Harry is not allowed to use magic outside of school without getting expelled and locks Harry in his room intending to keep him there forever and never let him go back to Hogwarts. Why did he think he could get away with this? Ignoring the later rescue from Ron, Fred and George, what made him think no one at Hogwarts would notice he was missing? A year ago, the school knew that Harry hadn't received his letter and continued to send multiple letters (hidden in eggshells, bursting through the fireplace, and being sent to the hotel they were staying at when they tried to run away) and finally sending Hagrid to deliver the letter personally. What made him think that Hogwarts (or heck, the Ministry of Magic, since they would probably take notice that the "Boy Who Lived/Chosen One" was not continuing his education shortly after being told that he couldn't perform magic outside of school) wouldn't send someone to ask about Harry, realize that Harry's been locked up, and free Harry, ignoring the Dursleys' protests and (depending on who was sent) probably threaten them with some legal action if they ever pulled this stunt again?

Got it. Just wasn't sure how to do it. Now how do I remove it from here?

Regarding the Headscratchers re: Gilderoy Lockhart being the only person applying for DADA teacher that year; while it is revealed later that Snape wanted the job and applied for it repeatedly, that still doesn't necessarily mean Hagrid was wrong when he said it. If nothing else, Dumbledore is determined to not let Snape have the job until book 6, when his impending death forces a change in plans; Snape's application is thus irrelevant for hiring purposes, because its already set up to be auto-spiked before Snape even finishes signing it, every year. Plus, its entirely possible Hagrid just doesn't know that Snape applies for the job repeatedly; Snape's a very private guy, and Hagrid's not the sharpest light bulb in the box.

Parselmouth vs. Parseltongue, Gilderoy Lockhart, etc.

This is more about the fandom than the books, since the books get it right consistently, so far as I can see. But it really bugs me when I see Harry/Voldemort/anyone else who speaks Parseltongue referred to as "a Parseltongue", or "speaking Parselmouth". A Parselmouth speaks Parseltongue, not the other way around.

In that same vein, I have to wonder why Lockhart's last name is occasionally given as "Lockheart" or "Lockhard" by fans. Now, I'm not perfect - I've slipped and written "Lockhard" exactly once - but it was the middle of the night and I was half asleep, and the person I was replying to had used "Lockhard". It bothers me when the person writing the question uses the terms or names correctly, and then the person or people replying don't get the name right. Thoughts?

Just fix it to the correct name when you see it misspelled.
