I didn't know there was a debate about this; I'd already gone ahead and created a bare-bones Resident Evil 8: Village page, based on the official naming theme of its precursor, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Apologies for jumping the gun, and please revert the attendant pages to the proper addresses.
I've realised that my latest edit on the page had an edit reason that was way too long and should probably have been here. I hope I didn't come across as rude. I don't want any kind of war (edit or flame) about Wesker's (lack of) Woobie status, and I'm happy for the trope to be put back if anyone can find better evidence of it. It does make me wonder why Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds is not YMMV when the other Woobie tropes are since a lot of it depends on whether you personally feel pity for the character. In Wesker's case, I don't, and calling him a Woobie doesn't seem right as a result. He was a genius and Child Prodigy who was highly ranked, respected and probably very well-paid at Umbrella; apparently had a successful military career (commissioned officer); seems to be good at pretty much everything he does; manipulated nearly everyone else for years; is permanently smug; quickly killed the only person who ever managed to manipulate him; is quite clearly having fun almost every time you face him; came very close to taking over the world; and, let's face it, he's good-looking too. Poor guy. Ok, sarcasm aside, I'm just not sure it works. I've never deleted someone else's example before and I'm hoping I haven't messed up, but I know we're not meant to respond and I honestly couldn't think of any way to repair so I just got rid of it.
Edited by MysteriousStranger Hide / Show RepliesHow should I format? Newlines are not working and apostrophes suddenly have slashes before them. The formatting rules have guides for edits but I could not find anything on forum posts.
In the "Overtook The Games" section, it talks about S.D Perry introducing a character called Trent... however, Trent and his modifications to the storyline actually were introduced from the start of Perry's writings, with the Resident Evil 1 novelisation. This is part of the reason why some fans hate the RE novels. So, yeah, somebody who has a better handle on what tropes apply should probably fix that entry.
I think we ought to rename the first game's page to "Resident Evil 1," which will make it easier to differentiate between the franchise and the first game and managed the subpages such as Character, YMMV, and Tearjerker. As it stands, they are both named "Resident Evil," with the only difference being one is "Resident Evil" and the other is both Franchise/ and Main/, so they share their subpages.
In particular, I would like to make the Character page for the franchise an index that links characters to the character pages they can be found in, as it is in pages for other ongoing series, which is currently impossible.
If nobody protests this change within a couple days to a week, I may assume unanimous agreement and decide to get started.
Hide / Show RepliesSounds like a good plan to me, except it will break a lot of links.
Sleep depraved.Less than you might think; most of the links go to Resident Evil—which defaults to the series, not the first game's page. A Google search of the site with "VideoGame/ResidentEvil" in quotation marks turned up less than thirty results, most of them in reviews, discussions and something to do with inbound count.
If you're up for it, I'd say go for it this weekend. That will give a week or close to it since your first proposal.
Sleep depraved.Page has been moved, as have sub-pages. Any idea how to redirect the old page?
Also, I know some of the listed characters under "Index by Character" aren't on the character pages yet. I plan to add them, though I won't be upset if anyone does it first.
Ok, about my edits:
- Natter: Oh, so freaking much. Many unneded spoilers and story-details not necessary to explain the usage of a trope.
- Repair Dont Respond: There was also much "This was so-and-so"—"No, it wasn't"-Natter. This Is A Wiki; if it's wrong: correct it.
- Walkthrough Mode was also very prevalent.
- Many examples only belong to a single game. I'll move them there.
- What Could Have Been is Trivia.
Since the new game is announced, should the title should be called "Resident Evil: Village" as per the producers? Because they stated the title is the 8th title, but it isn't actually called Resident Evil 8.
