Anachronism Stew: Some minor goofs, like use of Deustche Afrika Korps logos (Swastika on a palm tree) on boxes and equipment in 1936 (the DAK was created in Feb 1941 to bolster the faltering Italian Army in Libya after the British humiliated them the previous fall) or the accompanying "Tropical" uniforms (the light summer attire used at the time with Heer 'advisors' working with Franco's Nationalist forces in Spain at the time would be more appropriate), or even the MP 40 being cocked by the German plain-clothes operative (not available until 1940, and though likely there were prototypes of its predecessors, the MP 38, in existence, unlike they'd be issued for a critical mission), whom would more likely have an MP 18 Bergman. The real big problems are the Kriegsmarine submarine pen in an AEGEAN island in 1936, somehow constructed under the very noses of the Greek and British Navies! Never mind the colossal engineering effort it would have taken (presumably this is an old sub pen from WWI, if the island was taken by the then-Ottoman Empire from the Greeks, and built with Imperial German assistance and advice, and re-purposed somehow by the Nazi regime) to construct it or even rehabilitate an old facility, but doing it in SECRET? Preposterous!

The other issue is having the submarine, with a base to go to or NOT, being in the Mediterranean in 1936 at all! There's a REASON that the British controlled both the Suez Canal (hence why they had a military presence in Egypt until 1957) AND Gibraltar! Yes, there wouldn't be a sub net across the Gibraltar strait, so a sub could easily slip by at night, especially if running at periscope depth, but to risk what was a brand-new boat, especially since the "plan" was to FLY the Ark from Egypt directly to Germany, on an improvised mission to 'ship' the Ark, seems preposterous as well. That boat would take a few WEEKS to get back to Cuxhaven or Bremen as it is, and by then, if Dr. Jones and/or Sallah has altered either the British or the Americans, the US and Royal Navies would both be in hot pursuit! It also belies why the hell have the secret Aegean sub pen, unless there's another nefarious plot afoot! It should also be pointed out that though Mussolini was a fellow Fascist, he wasn't entirely aligned with Hitler, and even had already opposed him on several occasions, so unlikely any help from the Regia Marina Italina!

Presumably for a mission THIS important, rather than commit the anachronistic prototype flying wing as a CARGO aircraft, one Ju-52, or, more likely, SEVERAL, in LUFTHANSA markings, UNARMED (or at least not VISIBLY armed!) would be employed, as the idea would be to just fly the damned thing to Germany in the first place! A Lufthansa cargo flight would also not draw unwanted attention rather than parading around, in LUFTWAFFE markings (which had also been recently admitted to and was still not allowed under the Treaty of Versailles), an aircraft that was extremely ADVANCED for its time!

Deleted the following Natter that violated Example Indentation from the Spotlight-Stealing Title entry.

  • Although Indy too is technically one of the Raiders as well in as much as he doesn't leave the Ark where he found it...justified in his case, he's a Raider for the good guys, and needs to keep the Ark out of unfriendly hands.
