I seem to recall that in the default GURPS Fantasy setting (Aerth? Don't remember) the Wizards Guild or some equivalent works to prevent knowledge of gunpowder from becoming common, to ensure that magic remains the most effective way to make quick, powerful, long-range attacks.

The sub-headed paragraph starting with "Side Note:" under the Dungeons & Dragons discussion seems like 'As you know' persiflage to me. Feels like only the last sentence is really necessary.
