Fflewddur does sing at one point, so should the anecdote about no singing be removed?

However, it is not a critical part of the story, at best an oddity and at worst a case of executive meddling. Moreover, as the former it serves only one purpose: establish only that Fflewddur is a bard/minstrel. And, to be honest, his singing kind of really sucks.

Hence, in this capacity, it acts to foreshadow the "Failure Hero" aspect of Taran in that the characters have images of themselves which don't correspond to reality. Fflewddur sees himself as a great bard, but sucks as a musician. And Taran sees himself as a great warrior, but then understands at the end that he is "just a pig-keeper" and was never a warrior or knight or hero.

And all that is if you consider it "singing" at all.

The spoilered material in the Everything's Better with Princesses entry is from the 1965 novel and falls under our Handling Spoilers policy's Statute of Limitations, so I unspoilered it.
