I would just like to point out that the Latin root "mort" means death.

Well... it does kind of have some very basic trappings of a gothic novel. Death's realm would make for a good Gothic landscape, there's a character roughly approaching "damsel in distress" (though Terry doesn't write a lot of those, admittedly), and the hero fights a terrifying figure who literally represents death.
