I suggest that Tropes be added for Baby Bowser rather than just redirecting to Bowser's page— after all, he's actually been a seperate character from adult Bowser in several games and he has several tropes about him that conflict with adult Bowser's. I already have the write up ready, if nobody minds.

Um, hey there. I'm just spitballing here, but would it be okay to put Bowser's old tropes back? His tropes from before he got his own Character Page?

What did happen to his own page?

Nothing. It's just that when Bowser got his own character page, his tropes were moved there, and I was just thinking that it would be easier to simply Copy-N-Paste his old tropes back to this page rather than start from scratch.

I see no reason not to restore it - I've never even heard of any other instance of a character's trope list being removed simply because they got a self-demonstrating character page.

  • Card-Carrying Villain: A milder example than his father, but the trope still applies. There are occasions when it's played with. Several times, Junior has been caught responding to something in manner not unlike how any normal child would react, only to quickly correct himself and act more like an evil prince. One such instance occurs in Mario & Sonic 2012: when he first finds out Shadow and Silver know who he is, his initial reaction is innocent surprise, which he immediately tries to cover up with a boastful claim that of course they would know who he was.

I don't like this example. Here's a breakdown of what's wrong with it:

"A milder example than his father, but the trope still applies."

How? How does it apply?

"There are occasions when it's played with."

I really dislike when an example says a trope is "played with" without stating which form of Playing with a Trope it actually is; it comes off as Word Cruft and tends to sound like shoehorning.

"Several times, Junior has been caught responding to something in manner not unlike how any normal child would react, only to quickly correct himself and act more like an evil prince. Haven't played that game, but this doesn't really sound like Card Carrying Villainy to me. A CCV is a villain that specifically refers to themselves as such; they aren't just evil, they are self-proclaimed evil. That's what the example context should be describing, not this unnecessary digression that doesn't really go anywhere.

The background terms are there to give a more nuanced view of how the character trope applies. He doesn't have as much of the 'Muhahaha I'm so evil I can hardly stand it' dialogue that his father has, which on it's own makes him 'milder'— it's more that his father is an extreme case than he is, and the only reason I bring that up is because if I don't, people will just assume it's to the exact same degree as Bowser. The fact his, he has brought up his self proclaimed 'evilness' in Super Sluggers and Fortune Street, so he does apply for the trope.

The 'played with' refers to some pretty obvious breaks in character where Junior will start talking normally to someone, then immediately revert back to an overly exaggerated evil persona bragging about how evil and famous he is, as if he had accidentally slipped out of character for a moment. The Olympics 2012 example has more than one instance of this happening, too, although the instance mentioned is the most glaringly obvious time it happens. I guess I'm a little confused as to how that wouldn't apply to a 'Card Carrying Villainy' trope if it's toying with the idea of that card carrying villain persona is a product of intentionally trying to copy how his dad acts. Can I hear a bit more detail about why you think the example doesn't go anywhere, especially if you hadn't actually seen the contextual in game moments?

"The fact his, he has brought up his self proclaimed 'evilness' in Super Sluggers and Fortune Street, so he does apply for the trope."

Then this should be included in the example context. Mention specifically how, in those two games, he refers to himself as evil/a villain.

"The 'played with' refers to some pretty obvious breaks in character where Junior will start talking normally to someone, then immediately revert back to an overly exaggerated evil persona bragging about how evil and famous he is, as if he had accidentally slipped out of character for a moment. The Olympics 2012 example has more than one instance of this happening, too, although the instance mentioned is the most glaringly obvious time it happens."

Except that instance you mentioned isn't even an example. Him trying to "cover up with a boastful claim that of course they would know who he was" is not villainous or evil, just arrogant. That's why I think the example goes nowhere; it isn't actually describing the trope coming into play.

Fair enough. I'll hunt down the exact quotes from those games and put it in without the example from Olympics 2012. However, I still feel like that example is an interesting character trait to list, and I will be entering it again if I find a more appropriate trope for it.

Alright, here are the quotes:

Fortune Street: "Change my job, huh? I could become an evil overlord like my dad... but I think I can manage that on my own!" "What to do, what to do... Aww, forget it, I'll roll first and think about my evil plan later." "Heehee! I needed a good rest! Now I've got tons of energy to formulate my evil plans!" "Step one in my evil master plan's getting my hands on some stocks! Then I'll be able to wreak all sorts of havok!" "Heehee! Don't write me off just yet. I've got an evil plan formulating in my brilliant brain!" "Diddy Kong is about to win? I'm gonna have to start playing dirty! Now, where did I put my bag of evil tricks...?"

I can get some for other games, but hopefully this is enough for the straight trope, right?
