Also it's possible they only consider SCP-096 non-sapient to dehumanize him, since the SCP scientists aren't all nice. And it's possible SCP-096's mentality is like that of a very young child or an infant.

I don't think being non-sapient would necessarily make SCP-096 ignorant to his evil actions, since I'm pretty sure even predators in the wild have some self-awareness to what they do, they mostly just only care about filling their bellies and feeding their families. Apathy of one's life does not equal ignorance.

Hmm, several of the spoilered-out bits about 231 seem to be taking the story The White Horse as canon. My understanding though is that none of the Tales are considered canonical outside themselves; several of them flat out contradict each other. - Edit: I see someone handled the issue. Thanks.
