Actually, I think that currently there are few enough SCPs on the character pages that they should fit on one page.
Although some of the longer entries probably should get a page all to themselves.
By the way, the image one this page needs to be credited to its artist.
Hide / Show RepliesStarting a new discussion here. Here is my proposal for rules what SCP belong on the character page.
- It must be an actual character.
- It should meet at least one of the following criteria:
- It has its own character tag on the SCP wiki (see this page)
- It is a major character in a canon or a tale series.
- It appears in at least 4 tales (see pages like this one for lists (lists are incomplete and don't include appearances in collaborative tales) ) or other SCP documents.
- It is important to another character in the Foundation universe.
- It otherwise is a very popular character with frequent appearances in SCP fanart.
Well, I don't personally edit these pages that much, but as a reader I greatly like having access to a large amount of SC Ps, rather than just the "greatest hits". It helps being able to see whether people have contributed on here to the information on certain SC Ps almost as much as being able to just go to the SCP wiki, and having trope links and suggested explanations for them can help readers who want a different perspective than what they get just from the entries. If we're compacting the entries that much, we may as well not even have the character entries designed as they are, and would be better off having them compacted to a single section called "Important SC Ps".
And being completely frank, I don't think it's appropriate to delete the majority of the SC Ps from these lists without public approval and simply make a post like this afterwards, and there should be significantly more people openly supporting such a move before it's made. I don't at all approve of checking the character pages and seeing that SCP 001-299 has only a single 001 entry and maybe half a dozen others, with everything else being even more sparse.
First: the proposal to moved was made since March (just scroll down, and people actually discuss it before that). Your accuse of "delete the majority of the SC Ps from these lists without public approval and simply make a post like this afterwards" is baseless.
Second: The idea of merging remaining sheets into just one "important skips" is good indeed.
Third: They are moved to Recap/, not deleted
Personally, I'm fine with bring back other skips to characters sheets as long as non-character tropes remain on Recap/. But I've seen too many tropers trope a completely different character simply because they also appear in the same story, so I have no objection with keeping only important stuff either.
Edited by KuruniI see. I should have looked a bit further into it to see the discussion, so I apologize for that. I jumped the gun, because it looked like page sabotage at first glance. The fact that it was moved to recapped seems best in that case, I just didn't see that mentioned in update notes, although I see it now on the main page. Criticism withdrawn, and again, I'm sorry for that leap.
Edited by DaedalusExI would like to make a proposal. We should bring back the Recap pages so that people can find tropes by SCP and so that we can list non-character SCPs. SCPs that are in the character pages should be moved to the recap pages, with the exception of SCPs that are recurring characters outside of their document, such as SCP-682.
Edited by legendaryweredragon Hide / Show RepliesI'm going to agree with this. There's a ton of story and narrative tropes that apply to certain SCP files yet cannot be added in the Character page.
Ryoko. If nobody objects to this I will probably do it soon. People keep putting non-character SC Ps and non-character tropes on the SCP character pages and it doesn't look like the cleanup is actually getting done. I will move all of the SCP entries to the Recap pages. SCP entries will only remain on the character pages if it both actually is a character, and has appeared outside of its SCP entry in tales or other SCP documents.
Please do. Although note that Recap page need the plot summary, so just move the tropes from characters sheets will leave it as stub at best.
Edited by KuruniI have started the move but I unfortunately can't finish it tonight and I won't be able to use my computer for a few days. I will continue working on this Saturday.
And by the way, since the character pages are going to be significantly cut down after the transfer is finish we should consider compressing them into fewer pages.
The transferring complete. I am taking a break now but I am still working on trimming the characters down.
The SCP-6000 Contest is over and a new series has begun. All of the entries have been given their own numbers.
Nothing left to do now except make a new page for 6000-6999. Here's the link: https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp6000contesthub
Ryoko.Okay so, in terms of characters, living creatures and objects are characters, phonomena aren't, so what about abstract entities (such as SCP-3125 and SCP-5242/SCP-INTEGER) and locations (such as SCP-028 and SCP-1437)?
Cassie | he/they | But will it stop the pain forever? / I just can't be sure Hide / Show RepliesLocations can be treat as characters, as long as it's stand out enough.
Why is Call-Back okay to keep? Isn't that explicitly a plot trope? It doesn't matter how much of a connection one SCP has to another (or a connection to a tale), a plot trope is a plot trope, which is not allowed in these pages.
Cassie | he/they | But will it stop the pain forever? / I just can't be sure Hide / Show RepliesOn which page?
EDIT: Never mind, I look it up myself. Although the line between plot trope and character trope can be blur sometime, so far the only one that isn't outright narrative trope I found is SCP-3201.
Edited by KuruniThis whole editing war is getting ridiculous, why aren't we making a recap page?
Hide / Show RepliesWe thought about doing that a couple years ago, but discussion on how petered out after some time. Now we are in the status quo after preventing namespace misuse.

Wouldn't recap be still useful for tales and certain GOI Formats?
Cassie | he/they | But will it stop the pain forever? / I just can't be sureIs it worth considering creating a new character page for Mobile Task Forces?
Hide / Show RepliesSure. Just make sure that there're enough tropes about them instead of skip (or the plot).
I just realized it, but the BIG problem here of people troping stories instead of characters is that most are organized by stories instead of characters. This need some huge clean up.
Might be a good time for a reminder that by Administrivia. There Is No Such Thing As Notability policy, any skips can be written as separate work page as long as it provide example of three tropes (and with summary, something these pages are lacking).
Hide / Show RepliesGeez, forgot to post it here.
Anyway this is url to my proposal on Character Page Cleanup Thread https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=15654830560A87455000&page=8#comment-195 (because discussion pages are messed up). If anyone has better idea (that isn't "Screw TV Tropes' rules", because that isn't better), feel free to suggest it.
Edited by KuruniI remember the pages for individual SCP entries formerly being listed under the Recap section rather than as characters. Does anyone know why they were they moved to Characters, as a vast majority of them are not characters? Should I move them back?
Hide / Show RepliesSure, but don't just move them back, what can be classified as a character should remain on Characters/.
Alright I'm going to make big clean up, because "Plot tropes in general should go in the main (or recap) pages, not in characters pages." I started in 3000+ sheet, and it become clear that many of the entries are messed up badly. Some entries contain NO trope about the skip itself, all are about another character interact with it. It's like reading Batman's chaarcter entry but every tropes listed is about Joker interact with Batman instead.
Many of them would be far better to rewrite as Recap, each article is a story anyway, not a character.
As far as I know, Character pages are supposed to only contain characters. However, some of the SCPs listed here are not beings or creatures, but rather locations or objects. These aren't supposed to count, are they?
Edited by AHI-3000 Hide / Show RepliesThere are still tropes related to locations such as Eldritch Location or haunted places. I think it's fine.
I think it's time we discuss about which kind of character sub-heading we use. Currently there are two kinds in use. The first one is classical one that we've been using all the way since the beginning.
SCP-2000 ("Deus Ex Machina")
The second one is the one that I prefer to use, after another editor started using it.
SCP-2000 - Deus Ex Machina
I prefer the second one because it is a lot clearer due to not having the brackets and the quotation marks, and that it is consistent with the main wiki's style of formatting SC Ps on series pages.
So what are your ideas? I prefer the second one, but what do you think? Should we stick with what we have now, or should we change it to something else entirely?
The page has become too big and the folders don't work anymore, so we're gonna need to split it into several pages. I'm thinking about dividing it like this:
Any other idea?
Hide / Show RepliesThe SCPs are three times the size of the other categories, so the others only need the one page. SCP entries may require another split down the line.
Alright people, I think it's time to clean this up. This characters sheet suffer badly from Zero-Context Example, Weblinks Are Not Examples and bad Handling Spoilers. At least, please add short description for each entry.
Edited by 70.33.253.45Should we add the Daevite Empire to the Groups of Interest folder? Not everything about them can be covered by the entry for SCP-140.
Do not bold tropes' name. As it's point-out in Bold Inflation, "it can irritate the reader and discredit the character".
Tropes themselves need no emphasis, if something's a very important, then it should be specify in description instead. And this sheet indeed has too much Zero Context Example which should be fix.
Edited by 70.33.253.43Just wonder...should we add Shark Punching Center to Groups of Interest section?
Hide / Show RepliesI see no reason not to~ Though it should be mentioned that they're a joke group, unlike the other organizations and stuff. But then again, this exists, so....heh.
Edited by GhostOfAGeekClef has just driven about half of the people reading things crazy. Seriously, ANOTHER Easter Egg somewhere in 231? That nobody's found yet?
I'm too old to be cute dammit Hide / Show RepliesNot really the place to be discussing this kind of thing, but HOLY CRAP I didn't know there were Easter Eggs there until confusion while reading this made me go back and find them. Holy crap. D:
Edited by GhostOfAGeekI'm thinking about sorting entries in selected SCP section by their SCP numbers. On plus side, it would be easier to look for specific SCP as the number keep growing. On other hand, 173 and 682, which are pretty much poster boy SCP, won't be on the top anymore.
Any opinion?
Hide / Show RepliesOk, what is the reason we keep this format in Select SCP section? It can be hard to fine specific SCP in that section, since they seem to placed in random order. At first, I though it's to keep 682 and Able on top of list, but with Iris being the first entry, there seem to be no point at all.
A week has passed, without single reply. So I will numerical sort it again.
I am confused. Some of the tropes on the "other SC Ps" section of the characters page are doubled on the main page, and I'm not seeing any rhyme or reason to it. Can we, like, merge or otherwise clean up this somehow?
Hide / Show RepliesTrue, the section serve no purpose since tropes for these SCPs should be on SCP Foundation instead.
Edited by KuruniIt should be. If some SCPs appear in three or more tropes, feel free to add them as new entries here.
Edited by KuruniDoes Prometheus Labs deserve a spot in the "Other Groups of Interest" section of the Characters page? As far as I can tell, they don't have any remaining facilities, but they did create or modify several SCP objects. Unfortunately, I don't have much to say about them...
SCP-682 cannot do Mega Manning, so I removed the references to that. However, a lot of people DO seem to think that it can, so adding in something to reflect that the misconception exists might be a good idea, but I'm not sure which trope that would be. Flanderization? Common Knowledge?
Are we allowed to include entries for when the SCP admin themselves wank/mary sue themselves in other games? I think it would be of note that your fave doctor may not be so awesome if you see how the creator takes it to a jerk-ass level in other places.
Hide / Show RepliesQuestion being, what's your motivation for doing so? If it's to attack the author, that seems. . . well, I don't think that's what TV Tropes is intended to be. Go to Encyclopedia Dramatica for that.
Agreed, author abuse is not appreciated. We know we're insane already.
Edited by DrMagnusI put the thing back, but like I said in the edit line, I think I did it in such a way that didn't actively attack Bright.
We should start compressing the SCP pages. I think I will start by grouping the ones from the same set of 1000. After that we might compress them even further from there.
