Strange thing to bring up but the tone of these character pages seems a little off to me, namely that a number of entries seem to be Rooting for the Empire. Batman is constantly berated for choosing not to kill as if that's evidentially wrong of him when that's really something that should be on the YMMV page rather than stated like a fact.

That's what happens when you let biased opinions affect your editing.

This entry on Supergirl for Wide-Eyed Idealist takes the cake for me:

"Her support of Superman and his followers stems from not fully understanding what they're all about, but what really drives it home is her objection to Wonder Woman trying to kill Harley. When Wonder Woman points out that Harley deserves to die, Kara replies that she's defenseless and has had no trial, when both are patently false — she was just shooting at Wonder Woman and had in fact had several second chances in the past for separate crimes, all of which she blew because of Chronic Villainy."

Whatever one thinks of Harley in general Kara is quite right here; Harley may have been fighting previously but is helpless now, lying barely conscious on the floor, and whatever she may have done in the past she is still entitled to a trial before any punishment, never mind summary execution by someone who has no legal standing and is indeed a wanted criminal herself. I quite agree that the trope applies to Supergirl but that example is bananas. I'm not quite up to task of pruning the bias from the whole thing (not to mention worried my own bias will come in) but I'm changing that.

I also think that the tone is very biased and jarring.

Batman sees superheroes as supercops, meaning he doesn't stand in judgement. From his point of view, it's not for him to decide who lives or who dies. Superman argues that since that doesn't work, he'll make a system that will work. And since nobody wants to make the 'tough' decisions, he will.

This is the actual conflict in viewpoints.

It might also be a case of value dissonance. The USA has the death penalty, so maybe people think that since it exists, it should be used. I'm from Europe and there is no death penalty over here. While I think Batman needs to be less rigid, I generally agree that it's not the job of cops, super or regular, to also be judge, jury and executioner.

While I'm also from Europe and agree I'm not convinced it's a national thing. After all Batman and his refusal to kill were the result of American authors, as were most of these characters.

The attitude seems oddly prevalent among fans of a genre that generally is opposed to killing. I saw something similar on the Genre Savvy guide for being a superhero, where half the "guide" seemed to be "I will kill my enemies and if the country I'm in objects to my carte blanche decisions on life and death I will abandon them." What a great hero...

So for a bit now, I've been thinking we should restructure how the character folder is presented. Given how there are multiple factions and Superman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg aren't exactly good guys anymore while Harley Quinn is an ally of Batman, I don't think just 'Heroes' and 'Villains' is the best way to go. I think we should spread all the characters throughtout four pages:

  • Batman and Allies: Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Black Canary, Green Arrow, Doctor Fate, Blue Beetle, Firestorm, Harley Quinn
  • Regime Remnants: Superman, Supergirl - while it seems she'll switch alignments, she's gonna start out alongside Superman-, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Black Adam, Robin
  • The Society: Gorilla Grodd, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, Cheetah, Captain Cold, Deadshot, Bane, Catwoman
  • Other Characters:
    • Unaffiliated: Brainiac, Aquaman, Atrocitus, Swamp Thing
    • Downloadable Content/Premier Skins: Darkseid, Green Lantern (John Stewart), Power Girl, Reverse Flash, Mister Freeze

If there are already plans to do this after the game is released, I get that, but right now I don't see the harm in doing the restructure now.

Edited by ThePantherMan I'm just a guy...who happens to absolutely LOVE TV Tropes. Don't get me wrong, I do go outside often...but still. TV TROPES FOREVER!!! Hide / Show Replies

I came here to post a similar suggestion. Does anyone else think it will be more convenient to have them organized this way?

Should their character images for all of the folders? I think it would really add a lot to the presentation of these pages.

If you can find some good pics, then go ahead and add them. I just think nobody got around to doing it yet.

Is it really necessary to make a new character page? Some of the characters are returning from Injustice 1, so perhaps we should merge the pages and modify the tropes.

It's a new game, so it needs a new page. The original injustice character page grew so large that it needed to be split, and those pages are further split based off the story itself.
