Edited by AsherinkaShould we include Merrill in the recurring companions list? She is in the Dalish Origin party.
No matter what I say there is a 40% percent chance I'm not being serious, and if I sound like I'm not then I probably am. Hide / Show RepliesI split the page into Dragon Age and Dragon Age Non Playable Characters because the page was over 600,000 characters.
Hide / Show RepliesAdjusted Overly Long Pages accordingly, but it's still listed.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanYet another split. Dragon Age First Appeared In Dragon Age II now holds anyone major characters who debuted in the second game in the franchise.
Does Isabella's scene in DA:O justify her as a recurring character? I mean that's slightly more screentime than Cullen got outside of the mage origin.
No matter what I say there is a 40% percent chance I'm not being serious, and if I sound like I'm not then I probably am. Hide / Show RepliesIncluding the multiplayer that's three games and a comic book series she's been in. I think moving Isabella to pan-franchise characters is justified at this point.
No matter what I say there is a 40% percent chance I'm not being serious, and if I sound like I'm not then I probably am.I'm working on adding Alistair to the page. Although it's possible to kill him, Word of God is that him becoming King is canon to the Bioware timeline. His appearance in Inquisition also makes him more then Stroud and Loghain since he can appear as King, or a Grey Warden. Any issues with this?
Muramasa got.Isn't it past time to add Alistair to the Dragon Age character page as opposed to the Origins character page? He appears in more Dragon Age media than any other character in the franchise after all.
Hide / Show RepliesI think the issue presented is that Morrigan, Leliana, etc are all in another game in canon. Alistair can be straight up killed. However, in Bioware's canon he's alive so I see no reason why not to put him up.
Muramasa got.I was thinking: Anders has just been revealed to play a part in Dragon Age 2, and I think it's safe to say other characters will return. I suggest that after the game is released, we make a new page for recurring characters, similar to what the Mass Effect sheets have.
Hide / Show RepliesI would wait until we have a better clue on what the characters are like after DAII comes out. For instance Anders in DAII has...changed. They are different. Certain tropes will only apply to DAII. So it's possible to set them apart.
Besides that, DAO was not written with recurring characters in mind, the way ME was, nor is it a series. Anders in DAOA is a Grey Warden, on the run from templars. As far as we know, Anders in DAII is an ex-Grey Warden possessed by Justice there to help heal fugitives.
Edited by helterskelterI agree on the waiting, hence why I didn't suggest we do it now. Truth be told, I just mentioned it now because I didn't want to forget the idea later.
Currently a few characters like Anders, Cassandra and Flemeth have two separate entries. So if I want to look up the tropes for Isabela, for example, I’ve to read two different pages about the same character. Sure Anders personality has changed rather drastically, but that’s an exception not the rule. Therefore I think we should rearrange the character pages.
Here’s my suggestion:
Playable Characters: Origins Party Members; Awakening Party Members; DLC Party Members; Dragon Age II Party Members;...
Non-Playable Characters: Origins Non-Player Characters; Awakening Non-Player Characters; Dragon Age II Non-Player Characters;...
Dragon Age Expanded Universe Characters
In the example above the entry for Anders would be under Awakening Party Members (first appearance) and the entry for Isabela under Dragon Age II Party Members (first appearance as Party Member).
Thoughts?
Edit: Never mind!A few simple edits here and there should be enough , no need for drastic changes.
Edited by 70.33.253.44Does the Hurlock Vanguard warrant his own entry?
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes. Hide / Show RepliesYa know you should split the page of both origins and awakening as well as adding The Orlesian Warden
Darkness is The Power of Life Hide / Show RepliesOr better yet, make a split between main game content and DLC content (Awakenings, Leliana's Song, Darkspawn Chronicles, and Witch Hunt).
An entire split? Eh...I'm not so keen on the idea. There is no separate page for Awakening, and I don't think it's remotely confusing to keep them on the same page. I think it's adding more problems than solving. Particularly because I don't see a problem.
The reason the Orlesian Warden probably doesn't have their own section by now is because almost every single of their tropes is the Warden's tropes. I don't oppose the idea, but the list would be nigh-identical and redundant of the Warden's.
Problems with the page size has led to the creation of Dragon Age II and Dragon Age Origins 3
Edited by IqbalThere seems to be a mistake in Branka's listing, her name doesn't mean 'goal', that would be BRAMKA, her name means 'female captive'. Would it be ok for me to change it?
Hide / Show RepliesI have it that it means "defending or protecting glory" which definitely describes her.

http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Branka.html
Or "glorious defender".
Edited by helterskelterok, obviously it must be from some other slavic language, in Polish the name You linked to has the form Bronka (Bronislawa), whereas Branka is 'female captive'. My mistake to assume it must be Polish only because it sounds familiar
I removed a reference in Leliana's character sheet under the Rape as Backstory entry that stated she had been raped. Never in Leliana's Song is this actually said implicitly; it only hints that she was tortured.
I've got to disagree with some of the discussion on the Character Page about the Female Warden and the supposed fridge logic involved in their recruitment given the possibility of Brood Mothers.
Firstly - A Grey Warden is, by definition (surviving the Joining and impressing another Warden of sufficient stature) a Bad Ass twice over. To take one prisoner would require you to not only defeat the Warden without killing them (tricky given that you can't really ambush them and a Warden is imminently dangerous) and also prevent them from doing themselves in. Given that Wardens are well aware of their own doom - and the ones most at risk are going to be on their Calling ritual anyway... keeping in mind said Warden has survived 25-35 years of service, giving them many, many levels in Badass and absolutely no fear of death because... well that's why they're there...
I think it's fairly plain that from a Darkspawn perspective it's like trying to capture a buzzsaw hell-bent on killing you and everything related to you (Or meltifying you, as the case may be). Darkspawn may not be individually all that bright (we don't know for sure of course) - but they do apparently have at least some level of cunning. Eventually they're going to recognize that capturing a female Warden to act as a broodmother just isn't worth the pain.
Oh and for Wardens who aren't on their Calling - presuming you do catch them alone, remember; they're immune to the regular taint. That means that in order to make it work you have to keep this Warden alive for potentially three decades or more just to start the transformation. This presuming the Joining taint will carry out it's course identically to normal taint exposure - which is iffy at best.
It's possible such a Broodmother may just take several more decades to mature, rather than days or weeks - or it may not work at all and she'd just become a ghoul - or it may go horribly wrong and be sterile; or the darkspawn born of such a creature are twisted and useless... there is the very, very very off chance that it could Go Horribly Right for the Darkspawn though; it's just immensely remote.
Oh and of course all this assumes you catch her alone. Possible, but it's also not improbable at all that there could be at least one, and possibly several Wardens in her company who if anything could at least offer a mercy kill; though it's doubtful that'd be necessary.
All this despite that it's a given that it's far, far simpler to capture people from outlying farms and villages, or capturing normal female soldiers (who are surely more common than Wardens and substantially less dangerous in all but the rarest of cases). It's basically far, far more productive on their part to capture civilians and regular soldiers rather than someone who's entire purpose is killing you until killed themselves.
Secondly as to why there aren't many female Wardens to begin with -
I think this is mostly because while Fereldan is substantially more egalitarian than the Real Life middle ages - it is not at all an equal place.
Yes women can be knights and soldiers, and hold land and title alone sometimes - but the female PC is routinely reminded by NP Cs that she is at best unusual and more than a few characters offer at least some level of disapproval. (Of course some female characters do the opposite)
An example would be during the Redcliffe quest, Murdock, the mayor, who is rather pointed about not believing women should be fighting. (I did Redcliffe first so I don't remember his exact words though) At any rate even the more supportive characters still make statements like "... even a woman!" as though it's exceptional.
I doubt the Wardens are all that concerned about who it is they recruit - but because they aren't going to train you from scratch up to their standards, you have to get your skills elsewhere. Female warriors aren't common in Fereldan, thus there aren't many female Wardens.
—-
Basically summed up - in theory it's possible that a female Warden could be at risk of becoming a Broodmother. In practice, the odds are immensely low once you spend some time thinking about the logistics involved. Barring there being a guaranteed major payoff for the Darkspawn (ie: some kind of super-Broodmother), the Wardens have far more reason to use anyone worthy to the task that they can get their hands on rather than worrying over the very-remote possibility one of their own might become a Broodmother.

Also "Hi!" - sorry for the Walls of Text... it's err... something I tend to do. My first post on TV Tropes, though I've been reading for awhile.
Edited by mistformsquirrel Hide / Show RepliesI also disagree with the apparant fridge logic too.
Female Grey Wardens are immune to the taint until they eventually go on their Calling. If they leave their Calling too long they turn into a darkspawn/human(dwarf, elf) hybrid. Definitely not a Broodmother.
Do we actually know that? The Architect can change Grey Wardens into darkspawn hybrids using magic, sure, but where do we actually see a Grey Warden transform into a darkspawn naturally?
In The Calling it is pretty much stated that the hybrid is what GW's turn into natuarlly. The Architect just speeds up the process using his magic.

For the record, I created multiple Character-Specific Pages after the new policy was enacted. 40k symbols (with spaces) are currently required for such a page (among other things, please check the link for more details). There is also a clean up project underway, my post where I checked page length (part 1): https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=16263743740A05359600&page=8#comment-195
I also changed the main index, please note that since Dragon Age is a franchise with recurring characters, all character pages with actual examples should be treated as subpages of the main character index. Pages like Dragon Age: Origins or Dragon Age II should be treated as independent collections of links pulled from this main character index rather than its subpages. Otherwise there are circular references within the main index and an absurd situation when half of the characters from the games are not listed on the "characters" page for that game. I updated both of those pages.
If in doubt, check how it is done for any major franchise: MCU, DCEU, Star Wars, Mass Effect. They all follow this logic, so I applied it here too.
