I'm sorry, is it just me, am I just crazy, or are SIGNIFICANT portions of this movie (and Deoxys in general) Shout Outs to Evangelion?
Firstly, we have Deoxys. Facemasque, It has a Core and ridiculous regenerative properties, there's the DNA motif, and its profile in Normal and Attack forme (thin waist, head crest) evoke the Evas themselves.
It has Israfel's color pallette and in this movie it spams Double Team. Its Defense Forme SCREAMS Zeruel (Beside the color pallette).
A sidenote, you rarely see a Big City in Pokémon, ESPECIALLY not a Hypertech city. Really does remind me of Tokyo-3.
There's (spoilers) a Captured Super Entity in a lab in the basement, and the only solace Tory has is its presence as a supposed 'A.I.' And then it turns out that 'A. I.' is another Deoxys. There's some parallels there to Shinji and Unit 01/Yui's relationship.
Which brings us to Tory himself. Scaredy cat/woobie to the point of getting annoying (Shinji). Looks like a visual blend of Kaworu and Rei...
Oh and his Big Traumatic Experience happened in the arctic, with Deoxys doing the traumatizing. Misato and ADAM say hi.
