Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:

openLinks in Fiction Identity Postulate page deleted. Is this acceptable?
On the SugarWiki.Fiction Identity Postulate page, there used to be some links to demonstrate the idea of the page, that any work of fiction, no matter how bad, has the potential to be good. It did stuff like link the infamous Troll Fic, DOOM: Repercussions of Evil, and a serious re-written version on the same line to contrast.
The point is, a Troper deleted all these links, and gave as their edit reason “Cutting the nonsense at the bottom.” With no further elaboration. Was this warranted?
openIs there any restrictions on what can be considered as a character or not? (Vtuber/hololive) Web Original
So over at Characters/Hololive, we had a debate on whether we should include a particular character in our Characters page, where each character we have there at the moment is a hololive member & a vtuber in their own right (with the exception of one), each having their own Youtube channel.
A while ago somebody added an entry for a non-vtuber character (Anemachi), who is the sister of one of the hololive vtubers (Suisei). Despite not being a vtuber herself, Anemachi has a character portrait and occasionally makes appearances in Suisei's livestream at an average rate of about "once every few months". So you can say she's a somewhat recurring character on Suisei's channel.
Now, a troper had a problem with the inclusion of Anemachi with their reasoning being that she's not a hololive member. What I would like to know is that if there are any rules on TV Tropes that state who should be "worthy" of having a Characters entry or not. Because otherwise I don't see any problem with adding what is essentially a Minor Character into the Characters/Hololive page (with the hololive members themselves being Main Characters), seeing as even one-off characters from all sort of works get entries deliciated to them on TV Tropes.

Woolseyism.Undertale has only six examples (though there used to be more). Is this enough to warrant its own page?

I'm having troubling including examples without treading into Walk Through Mode. Any advice?
openEdit War Live Action TV
RiceRomp added the following examples to Hollywood (2020):
- Narm: Every time that people act wowed by Camille's acting, just because she’s so clearly not that good. Of particular note is her screen test where she delivers her dialogue with a constipated look on her face, which comes across as worse than than Claire's intentionally botched tape, yet the characters In-Universe view it as a brilliant performance.
- The Scrappy: Camille is this for some since she’s supposed to be an amazing actress, but many have said her portrayer is the weakest link of the ensemble. The idea that someone as untalented as her could overcome the insane racial bias of the era and win an Oscar is laughable.
I removed them because the Narm Clean-Up thread had said that the former was not an example, and The Scrappy Clean-Up thread said that the latter requires a 6 month waiting period before examples can be added and the work was released in May of this year.
RiceRomp just today has added these to the page:
- Narm: Every time that people act like Camille's acting is incredible, given most viewers not only think it's nothing to write home about, but legitimately bad. Of particular note is how in universe she's apparently so good that she helps change the country into a more accepting place, and manages to win a lead actress Oscar in the 1940s, a feat that wouldn’t be done in real life until the early 2000s.
- The Scrappy: Camille is probably the least popular of the main characters, with the main reason being that she’s supposed to be an exceptional actress, but her performances come across as more laughable and dull than actually good.
openStar Wars Page Titles Film
When I saw the Star Wars pages, I noticed the lacked the franchise name in the title (IE: Attack of the Clones instead of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), making the page titles technically incomplete. This case is separate from James Bond in that Bond films don’t have the franchise name in it (IE: Casino Royale instead of “James Bond: Casino Royale”). So what do we do about it?
Edited by GeneralGiganopenUnder age casting question
From what I understand, Underage Casting is supposed to be about characters being far too young to hold certain professions (like a 22 year old being a world class neurosurgeon for example). Instead, more than half the examples seem to be people pointing out that the actors aren't the same age as the roles they play, in some cases pointing out a one or two year difference.
Am I reading the example wrong? If not, deleting all those examples would leave a very bare page, it seems wrong for one person to unilaterally cut that much out.
openIs Data Vampires a reportable offence?
I was wondering just that. I'm aware that Data Vampires happen accidentally but i have noticed one particular troper (Agent Skyblue M 7) has "accidentally" messed up pages way too many times, deleting half of the content for a minor edit.
I just wanted to report this because it has happened way too many times now. Sure, it can be accidental but after a while it gets tiring. (If you are curious, check their history, in the pantheon pages we had to fix their edits because they keep breaking the pages
openNicoaln
- Monster Hunter Rise YMMV (violation of Repair, Don't Respond, already fixed)
- Last Scenario YMMV (Word Cruft in one entry and improper indentation in another)
- Guild Wars YMMV ("I'm gonna edit this entry which has Word Cruft and also violates RDR, fixing those two while I'm at it be damned")
- AFF subpage of World of Warcraft (misindentation in an edit and violation of RDR in another)
- Arc Fatigue (misindentation)
They don't seem like too many cases, as they're in the midst of many edits on Funny and Fridge subpages (whose editing standards are regrettably low), but I had sent a large number of Issue Helpers to Nicoaln in the past for improper indentation and/or natter-like additions. The persistence of these issues in these edits, plus the fact that at times I have resigned to fixing occasional issues from them without PM'ing them (because I know they are aware of the issues), led me to bring this query today.
EDIT: Spotted an extra case I overlooked:
- Narm subpage of Final Fantasy (misindentation)
openHow do I message this troper who has special characters in their username?
So, on September 17, a character page was created for 2001: A Space Odyssey by a troper named "R.G." I first discovered that page a few days ago, and even though it was a stub at the time, I decided to wait a little longer to see if they'd expand the page. However, it's been 9 days since they've touched the page, so I thought I'd send a stub notifier.
But there's a strange problem that prevents me from doing so: "R.G." somehow has special characters in their name, and if I try clicking on their username in the page's edit history, I just get brought to Tropers.Tropers. There's Tropers.RG, but that definitely isn't them, since that account hasn't had any edits since March 2013. How was this person able to put special characters in their username, and how can I access their profile?

I notice that the Mx Bones page has several Trivia items, which seem rather wanky and low-context in nature, and very little otherwise.
openWhat namespace would i put this under?
Hello! So i've been playing on a Minecraft Server named Wynncraft, and i noticed more than a few tropes. However, i have no idea what Namespace i would put it under on TV tropes. Should i put it under video games or something? Is there an Other Namespace. Or does it not fit anything else and therefore shouldn't have a page. Does anybody know?
openPercent Damage Attack vs. Fixed Damage Attack Videogame
i recently added this to Girls' Frontline: Assault Rifles:
and just to make sure i'm using this right i checked the trope in question, but found that it's really used for "percent of current HP", claiming that Fixed Damage Attack is for "percent of max HP" (which makes no sense to me, but anyway...)
i look on Fixed Damage Attack and find that there's no mention of percents anywhere (which does make sense), saying that it's based on exact damage numbers. so now i'm wondering if the former trope doesn't have the right definition or something, or if i'm misusing a trope here.
Edited by FreecomopenCreator category inconsistency
Question. This may not be worth bothering with, but wanted to bring it up. Normally, composers are grouped under the category “Music/“ followed by the name. For whatever reason, Johannes Brahms got created as “Creator/“ instead. The page is here: Johannes Brahms.
He did not create works in other media, either. If he had also been a poet or novelist, that might make more sense, but he wasn’t. Is there any reason that should be changed, or does it matter? And if yes, what should be done about it?
Thanks!
open Another Blanked Page
Characters.Friendship Is Magic Expanded Universe is now blank despite all the text being present when I tried editing it. I heard several other pages had this problem.
Anything to do to fix this? Or should I take to the bug reporting thread as this is an ongoing issue?
openListing works by the same creator
A question about sorting examples in trope pages: if we have entries from the same creator, should they actually be listed separately, or lumped under the author's name?
Example:
- CreatorName:
- Work A
- Work B
openPage needs clean up
The Fan Verse page is well... A mess. First it has a "fanworks" folder even though it's about fanfics to begin with, the description is rather ambiguous of the "may be this, may be that" kind, some examples are not even in the right folder, and I'm seriously questioning the validity of several of them.
openTheAmazingAI's Grammar Issues
I'm a little concerned about TheAmazingAI's grammar on display. They're relatively new to the site so they have very little edits under their belt, but they have been showing a lot of grammar issues in their posts on their TLP Draft. I even instructed them to use the Get Help With English thread, but they haven't followed up on making any edit requests there, only just merely dropping by. I think their lack of understanding of English in general is also causing miscommunications as well.
I found this on All in the Family:
- 20 Minutes into the Future: In one 1978 episode, Archie correctly names the next President as he yells after Mike "...and you're getting Reagan in '80!"
noteAnd this on Sanford and Son:
And this on I Love Lucy:
Last time I checked, 20 Minutes into the Future is for works that are set a few years into the future (i.e. after the work was made). These read more like examples of Hilarious in Hindsight if they were anything at all. And all of these shows were pretty much set in the "present day", with nothing indicating they were set in the future. Is there any explanation for this?
