Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:

openBrokenMasquerade - no examples list
The trope page Broken Masquerade is a bit... odd. To start, it's sort of written "in character", like the writer is part of the masquerade and is delivering The Reveal to the reader. From what I've seen, that sort of thing seems to be used more in Self-Demonstrating/ pages than Main/. Maybe this is actually okay; it just struck me as a bit unusual.
The bigger issue, though, is that there isn't an example list. There's a subbullet under each main "type" of masquerade (like Tomato in the Mirror, Hidden Realm, etc) with a list of "Signature Examples" provided, but it's just a list of works with no explanation of how they fit.
Is it okay to restructure it like a typical trope page, with examples in a separate section? Broken Masquerade currently has 752 wicks, so I could probably find at least a 5-10 good examples to start off the crosswicking.
Edited by Willowleaf24openHow best to redlink comic title when we don't have a work page.
Troper Ariachus recently added a link on Fur and Loathing to Comicbook.Starfires Revenge. here.
Unfortunately, we don't have a page for this title. I'm aware that redlinks are fine —and even encouraged— but this isn't a title for a comic book run or series, it's the story title for Adventure Comics Number 405. We don't have a listing for the name as a whole, either. (Apparently Supergirl stared in #'s 381-424, but I'm not a comic nerd, so just going off the pages.)
I find it unlikely that there would ever be a work page for that specific issue, so where should that title link?
openStumbled across a few months old edit war involving images thanks to Tumblr
By chance, I stumbled across a Tumblr post that made me concerned about the possibility of bad edits being done on NightmareFuel. The Witches 2020.
Lo and behold, a troper with a name similar to the blog name (Cherryblossom50 vs. Hopeblossom50) removed the page image with no edit reason a few weeks after getting that request. After it was re-added, they then proceeded to delete it again a few months later, still with no edit reason, pushing this into Edit War territory.
Note that they failed to edit an example on the page which refers to the page image, leaving it an Orphaned Reference.
While I can understand that some images might make some viewers uncomfortable, the contested picture is rather tame◊ by Nightmare Fuel standards (I know that images have been removed for featuring extreme gore or nudity before, but this is just a Slasher Smile with More Teeth than the Osmond Family). A better solution would have been to avoid that page, or to use an element blocker to stop the image from showing up.
Edited by ZuxtronopenQuestion about sandboxes and time
I am thinking of making a sandbox for a potential works page for the band Parquet Courts.
Unfortunately, it may take a while for me to come up with tropes for the band, so I may have it up for a while until the page is made.
With this in mind, I have a question. Is there a time limit for how long a sandbox page can be up until it is cut listed?
Edited by themayorofsimpletonopenRecap format
So the Recap pages on Angel turn all of the relevant numbers into double digits - for example, "3" becomes "03". I'm pretty sure that's not how it's supposed to be, but am I just wrong there?
open Trope Check
Hey, is there a trope where a thing is packed into a bag or suitcase and makes a similarly shaped indent within it? I'm making a Playing With page and realize I could use the link to that page on here.
openDominoes by meridianpony
Um, my apologies for asking this but meridianpony also has a fanfiction, net account and dominoes is also on fanfiction.net does mean a link to both the ao3 and fanfic.net versions of the story will be edited in or no?
openTroper's additions and deletions
This troper has been creating stub Fridge pages that just say "Fridge brilliance" and "Fridge horror" and nothing else (as seen here, here, and here). They have also been deleting chunks of text without reason (as seen here and here).
And then there are edits like these.
Edited by Shadow8411open Rude PM Report
A while ago there was an issue with a player (The_Dag) in the forum game Hunger Games Simulation. I am one of the moderators of the game, and the troper in question proved problematic whenever told to stick to the rules of the game, eventually resulting in us banning him from the game. I made the announcement post explaining that he was banned and not allowed to play the game anymore for his repeated rude responses to our posts civilly asking him to tone things down.
Recently he sent a PM for me, insulting me for the ban, despite the fact that no one was rude to him nor sank to sending rude PMs. We've had issues with the troper's behavior in general, but this was crossing the line a bit too far with unnecessary rudeness.
I'll add that all of these issues have taken place entirely within the site, nothing here has been carried over from outside nor has there been any drama importation involved.
openWebcomic page wiped by creator Webcomic
It seems that we have one of these situations again: Gerbil1 wiped pretty much everything on the The Misadventures Of Gerbil main page and YMMV page. The main page edit had the following edit reason:
As author of this page (and the original comic), this was a mistake. The comic itself has long been wiped from the internet. I'd prefer not to have my name associated with it any longer.
For the record, the link that was on the page does not appear to work any longer, but I haven't done anything past that to see if it still exists in some fashion.
openAlphatater ban evasion?
Not too long ago, Alphatater was suspended after an Edit War, as indicated in this ATT thread. Unfortunately, the troper hasn't appealed the ban as of yet.
Days later, a new account, Raito, was created. They have been making similar edits to Alphatater. Given that, I think we might have a ban evader. Thoughts?
Edited by gjjonesopenPermission to create a Tvtropes page
I would like to create a TV Tropes page for the story Four Walking disaster by Adamant 39, link here, https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13370159/2/Four-Walking-Disasters, I would like advise and permission to do so.
Edited by crazysamaritanopenCan you settle my disputes of MichaelKatsuro's edits on the Ghosts of the Future articles? Webcomic
To complete the plan for my final revisions of the Ghosts of the Future articles and because of the strict Edit War policy and the fact MichaelKatsuro sides with all of his edits, I have to bring up my disputes of MichaelKatsuro's edits here for other tropers to address and suggest ways to settle them. I'd like at least two tropers to address them all.
Webcomic.Ghosts Of The Future / General
- Can the Nipple and Dimed example be reverted back to the previous version? Right now, it's just listing examples of nipple exposure in the comic, which is People Sitting On Chairs. The previous version explored the difference of nipple detail based on gender, which is what the Nipple and Dimed trope is all about.
- What's wrong with the curly brackets? I used to edit [[LikeThis this, when someone one day corrected me to use {{Like|this}}, so I went by that since then (not to mention it saves source code size). Is there a rule against them? Additionally, MichaelKatsuro typo'd Fusion Dance as Fusion Danc.
- Can the adverbs for the Sorceress' nipples can be added back, because they do give a different meaning than without adverbs? Importantly, should we still emphasize the nipples frequently (this is in an American perspective, because I, Evan Stanley, and many tropers are American)? I don't want to traumatize children nor get attacked by angry parents, but I don't want to shame Evan Stanley.
- Can the bit about Evan Stanley Lampshading the Talking Heads trope be added back, since that really adds to the example?
- Revised example for Ghosts of the Future's example on Mohs Scale Of Violence Hardness:
- Ghosts of the Futurenote Would've been a level 6 if it weren't for Sonic dying with large yet crudely-drawn bloody flesh wounds, the sight of Tails' bloody corpse with a large gash in one eye, and a character being impaled in both of his hands which results in thick blood dripping out of his wounds and huge bloodstains
Characters.Ghosts Of The Future
- Why are the "(UNMARKED SPOILERS)" notices removed? Is there a rule against folders with unmarked spoilers now? I think most of the spoilers for characters are Late Arrival Spoilers now, but I'd appreciate if they had spoiler warnings tagged for those wanting to enjoy the comic. I think if there's such a rule, the sheet might as well as Spoilers Off to be fair for all folders.
- Can the Big-Lipped Alligator Moment example be added back? I think the nipples are shocking enough to point Evan Stanley regards them as Old Shame- How about Shocking Moments instead?
- In issue 6, the Sorceress of the Dark Isle transforms into Darkwing and becomes naked. While her other parts are covered up with a Censor Shadow, her nipples are shown, yet lack so much detail they barely count as nipples. Many readers were shocked by this bit of partial nudity showing up in a Sonic fancomic, and Evan Stanley has now sees it as Old Shame.
- (Another Shocking Moments example) In issue 17, readers were shocked by the incident in which Mettalix impales Silver's hands and an abundant amount of red blood draws out.
- Proposed revision of the What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids? example (and its identical counterpart on the trope example), which I think is better and lacks Word Cruft (Word Cruft takes the form of unnecessary words, these words add more detail for people to get a glimpse of the work; also, should the bit about one of the pages' description on DeviantArt having an erection joke be added back because I think that's still part of the work, as Evan Stanley considers her DeviantArt profile to be the comic's main host, or is the comic itself PG-13 enough to overlook that?):
- Even though Ghosts of the Future is a Sonic The Hedgehog fancomic by who is now an official Sonic comic artist and writer, it is not for children. The comic starts off with Sonic and his best friends being bloodily massacred by a mind-controlled Shadow, which results in Sonic and Shadow enduring trauma and guilt. There's shedding of red blood, infrequent and usually mild profanity, some sexual innuendonote such as the Visual Innuendo of the Sorceress holding the long neck of a jug between her breasts, and brief, non-sexual, and partial nudity in the form of rudimentary-looking yet visibly erect nipples. Nevertheless, little kids still read the comic, which encouraged Stanley to add Content Warnings to the issue 17 incident.
- Move Evan Stanley's quote in The Woobie examples to the first bullet point, next the "The Woobie:".
openQuoting slurs
Obviously, we can’t use slurs (the N-word with the hard R, the R-word, the other F-word, etc.) in writing, as they are far beyond the realm of simple swearing. But what if we’re quoting a work that uses them? Would censoring them be an example of Bluenose Bowdlerization?
(I mainly ask this because a lot of works from the mid-to-late-2000s use the R-word, and sometimes the other F-word. And, well, a good portion of this wiki is from the mid-to-late 2000s.)
Edited by PurpleEyedGumaopenAdding to an existing video.
Is there is a way to add a source and/or an example link to an already downloaded video?
I am thinking specifically about the current video example on Shake Someone, Objects Fall, which is both...
- Missing its Media source entry — SpongeBob SquarePants.
- Although a fitting example of Shake Someone, Objects Fall, it counts also as an example of Minion Maracas, and could be added to this page.
openPoor grammar
Jovonnie has poor grammar and uses Zero Context Examples, as you can see here.
openNo title
Chiropteru just removed the context for a lot of the examples on Funny.Calvin And Hobbes.
open Troper potentially spreading conspiracy theories on space-themed Useful Notes pages.
Joey Pknowsalotaboutthat is showing a lot of red flags of spreading conspiracy theories on Useful Notes pages talking about space topics. On UsefulNotes. The Solar System, they added this line about a mythical tenth planet, linking to an article which looks like it has no scientific basis whatsoever. It has since been removed by Florien. Courtesy link here.
- Other theories on planetary-mass bodies beyond the orbit of Neptune include a moderately-sized tenth planet and a dead star.
I found something similar on UsefulNotes.Local Stars, linking to a similar article on the same unverified website. Courtesy link here.
Although Proxima Centauri is the nearest known star to the Sun, it is possible that an unknown brown dwarf or neutron star might lie closer.
The latest updates on Horrible.Live Action Films 0 To F by Idiosyncratic have some issues. There's a bit of changing Commonwealth spellings to American ("colour" to "color" and "humour" to "humor"), removal or addition of hyphens in certain word pairs, and addition, removal, or changing certain words to make the sentences not make sense. However, there were several other edits he made that fixed spelling and grammar errors. Edit here:

By the way, I feel like I've made this report before.
