openTrope misuse? Anime
I was looking through the page of Memes.Yu Gi Oh Arc V when I ran into two entries that go along these lines
- Carded: shorthand for being turned into a card
- Berserk Mode: a fan-created term to describe a very specific Unstoppable Rage state. (The actual entry is much longer, but that's what it boils down to)
Thing is... Aren't those Fan Speak instead of memes? Or are memes and Fan Speak one and the same?
openRedeem trope and in-universe YMMV or trivia tropes Anime
I'm searching for a trope where the finale of a show (in-universe btw, the series is about acting) basically was hated by the audience, but redeemed itself with a good final episode.
And since it's a show about acting, I found other tropes that would fit, if only they weren't marked as YMMV or trivia tropes. Can they still be added to the main page then, since they are in-universe?
openAttack on Titan Survey Corps discussion Anime
Not too long ago, Levi Ackerman 91 (a relatively new troper) added the following entry to Characters.Attack On Titan Survey Corps:
- Kuudere: He is cold and hostile, but has a very caring and soft side when it comes to his comrades.
Kuudere is a Fan Speak term and no examples are to be listed, so I reclassified the entry under the Sugar-and-Ice Personality trope per the recommended guidelines on the Kuudere page. However, LeviAckerman91 sent me a hostile PM and reverted my edit saying it was a copy-and-paste (I felt that it wasn't), which led to a discussion on the discussion page. Edit history for the page in question is here to prevent further edit warring.
Can someone please look into the matter and determine if it's a valid example? If not, should it be removed?
Edited by gjjonesopenLust from 2003 FMA Anime
Would you say that Lust from the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime becomes a Nice Girl by the end of her arc? I get that her manga/Brotherhood counterpart doesn't count for obvious reasons, but I have more attachment to the 2003 version of her character. Sure, she started off no different from the FMAB version, but near the end, not only did she pull a Heel–Face Turn, but she also Took a Level in Kindness. It's for this reason that I added the Dark Is Not Evil trope to her character page last night.
Edited by Dragonking56openMove to "Manga" page type and rename. Anime
Youkai Shoujo Monsuga has been a sandbox article for four years now, and in my opinion it's long overdue to be moved to a proper page type. Furthermore, it seems the English title is Yokai Girls, so it should be moved to Yokai Girls.
Thoughts on this?
openMore of a correction Anime
I didn't feel comfortable changing it myself, but in the Art Shift entry for Megazone 23, it erroneously lists Haruhiko Mikimoto as the character designer for part 1. This is only true for the character, EVE. Despite the very similar art style, the other characters in Part 1 were designed by Toshihiro Hirano.
While not really an error per se, in the Gratuitous English entry, Shogo's SEX WAX jacket in Part 2 isn't actually Gratuitous English, it's an actual real-life American brand of surfboard wax produced in California!
open Name of Anime shown on Animax Anime
What is the name of an anime aired on Animax about four main characters, one of them being a girl with red hair? It was something related to fighting monsters.
openSpacing of "PandoraHearts"/"Pandora Hearts" Anime
Yep, yet another PandoraHearts-related query.
So, this is a bit of a weird situation. Most people write the title of the manga as "Pandora Hearts," with a space in the middle, and almost every source you can find on the internet will refer to it with that space as well.
However...I own the officially-translated English manga volumes and light novels, and on those it's actually written as one word, with no space. (See the title of the query.) This is consistent in officially-translated English material, so I know it's not a typo.
Weird and counterintuitive? Definitely. But if it's official, should it be written as one word on the page?
Edited by CyokieRevottopenNow-Incorrect Folder Anime
The main characters of PandoraHearts were listed as Oz, Alice and Gilbert for quite a long time, and there is an "in general" folder for tropes applying to them as a trio. However, a little while ago, Break was moved into the main characters section. (I had mixed feelings about this, but I seemed to be the only one, so the general consensus was to leave it be.)
The old "in general" folder is still there, but it hasn't been edited since before the location of Break's character folder was changed. As such, it's technically no longer correct, containing quotes that apply to Oz, Alice and Gilbert but not Oz, Alice, Gilbert, and Break.
I'm reluctant to delete the folder because it contains legitimate examples for the original trio. What to do?
openIs there a trope for Early Relevance? Anime
Where a character in an adaptation is brought into relevance earlier than they were in the original?
A specific example: Nico Robin joining the Straw Hats at Whiskey Peak rather than after Alabasta. (Fanfic obviously) It's not an Early Bird Cameo and I don't think its an Adaptation Early Appearance either, since that IS the point where she met them in canon. I wouldn't call it Ascended Extra either because she's a prominent crew member in the source material as well. She is just joining the crew sooner than she did in the original story.
openAdding heartwarming or awesome, tearjearker pages to a tv tropes film page Anime
Hello, I have been checking out the Tv Trope page for "Big Fish and Begonia" and it has the tropes pages: Characters, YMMV, Trivia and Recap. I would like to add to the Tv Trope page about this film the ones that are normally displayed in almost all Tv trope pages like: Heartwarming, Tearjerker and Awesome pages please. I don't know how, will you please tell me how or help me?
openIs This Allowed? Anime
The quote page for Neon Genesis Evangelion includes several quotes from influential figures such as Kurt Vonnegut and Jean-Paul Sartre. It seems to me that these quotes are here primarily to comment on the main themes and philosophies of Evangelion, but of course, the quotes do not directly mention Evangelion itself.
Please note that I only have basic knowledge of Evangelion, as I have not watched the anime. If these quotes are directly referenced within the anime, forgive me. But the quote page does not clarify this, so if this is indeed not the case, would this be breaking the rules?
openMassive amounts of ZCE in the ''Zettai Karen Children'' Character Page Anime
I was looking over the page for Zettai Karen Children and I noticed an astounding amount of ZCE, both just blank trope names and "Trope Name: Is this" entries, as well as a great deal of improper punctuation/capitalization and other such issues. I nuked most of the ZCE entries, but if anyone who's watched this anime can help restore them with the context they need, it would be very much appreciated.
openAdaptational Issues on trope pages Anime
Okay, I’m thinking about The Case Files of Jeweler Richard specifically, but I’m sure this isn’t the only work with this problem (a non-manga, non-light novel work getting an anime adaptation.)
First 6 volumes were roughly adapted to an anime. Volumes 7-10 do not have an adaptation (yet? I guess we don’t know).
If I were to list something from volume 9 on a trope page as an example, would it go under the Anime category, or under Literature?
How about something that wasn’t in the anime at all, but was in volume 4?
I keep running around in circles and just want to catalog stuff, dangit.
openTranslation Conflict Anime
There is a character in PandoraHearts whose name is officially translated as the "Bloody Black Rabbit." A rather long time ago, somebody changed the word "Bloody" to "Bloodstained" in all examples, explaining that Bloodstained is a better translation as it is equally accurate to the original Japanese while avoiding the connotation issues in British English.
Although I thought it was better to be consistent with the official English translation, I didn't really bring this up anywhere because I wasn't very familiar with TV Tropes. Now I'm wondering if this is something that should be addressed. I don't really mind the change—I actually agree that in several aspects "Bloodstained" is probably a better translation than "Bloody." But I don't know if relying on an unofficial translation is against the rules.
What is the general consensus here?
Edited by CyokieRevottopenPossible shipping agenda Anime
About Naruto, no less. As if the Shipping Wars of old weren't enough....
Anyway. bunbun666 is new to the site and their edits so far are additions to ShipTease.Naruto and cleansing Characters.Naruto Sakura Haruno of "negative" tropes.
I smell a shipping agenda.
Edit: Fixed the links; they should be working now. Edited by RoundRobin
openProtagonist usage Anime
Chaotic Novelist made a massive edit to Stardust Crusaders citing that the word protagonist cannot be used in the plural, although I've seen it used as such. Is such a change necessary?
Also, while they correctly removed misuse of Ensemble Dark Horse from descriptions of Kakyoin and Avdol, they also modified an entry in such a way that it comes off as on-page complaining about said misuse.
openA place for my work Anime
I have a fanwork that I'm writing, and I'd like my work to be mentioned on Tvtropes, or have its own page. How can I do that?
openCreating a Working Page for my Fic Anime
Hello, I'm Retribrutus, and I'm having a bit of a dilemma trying to figure out how to create a works page for my fanfiction. I've read the Administrivia and it says to change the url to an already existing wikipage along with the title but I'm unsure on whether I should change the new page that the url (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/NamespaceGoesHere/TitleGoesHere) provided. Is it safe just to edit things or should I get some sort of permission first?
Can a broken pedestal be where someone once idolized a person due to their wealth but then became rather bitter with them due to major life changing experiences? They've never met though.
