Are "non-canon" subpages allowed? There was some discussion about the before but I don't remember what it came to.

October 2015:

Septimus: "Non-Canon" pages are uncommon but acceptable so as long as they say "non-canon" in the title.

Never came to consensus after the August 2016 revival.

Also October 2015: Non-canon subpages for this particular game are cut for being too awful.

January 2016:

I create a thread to ask what we should do with this jank.

Larkmarn says "Long as they have context, it seems like they can stay (at least, no mod has said they couldn't)."

Fighteer says "I don't want to come down with Evil Mod Fiat in these cases because we prefer to leave non-critical decisions up to troper consensus.

That said, the problem with all of those "non-canon" subpages is that they are literally unsourced; they contain references to people's diseased imaginings rather than anything even remotely factual.

If some of these examples exist in fan works or other derivatives, they should be listed with those works, not with the parent. Otherwise they are utterly worthless.

This sort of thing needs a forum discussion to properly settle. If there is an existing topic, feel free to bump it up."

Later, Fighteer said ""What some dude on Tumblr believes about Work X" is not an example of anything in Work X and we should not give it the dignity of a wiki article."

General Consensus: There isn't one.

^I agree. Maybe we can form troper consensus right here?

Well, if by "non-canon" including official works that later declared non-canon by the creator or license owner (say Star Wars Expanded Universe), I think they should be keep.

The problematic part is when a line of fanworks is popular enough to spawn its own canon. That might worth discussion. Personally I think it might worth keeping if you can named it (for example, after the author(s)).

In short, we should try to identify them into some form of canon first, then kill the rest with fire.

No, the thing with non-canon pages are that they're full of nothing important. Usually loaded with random fandom things, or fanart, or other stuff, which is nothing like what you said with the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

If you look at some of the pages I linked in the January 2016 thread, you'll see that a lot of it is links to random people's Tumblrs or DeviantArts. Nothing like the SWEU, and nothing like a fan-made canon. Just an assortment of random stuff that is somewhat associated with the page it spawned from.

Also, thirding the request to kill these non-canon pages.

Sixthing. Non-canon things that are not tropeable works in their own right don't belong here, and those that are tropeable in their own right should have their own work pages.

Hey, I'm all for nuking those garbage pits. That doesn't mean expanded universe material or even fan fiction — the point is that we should not be troping anything that doesn't take the form of a concrete work.

Non-canon pages tend to basically be "I found a piece of fanart! I shall link it!" usually without context. Which I really hate.

At best they're just a duplicate of Fanfic Recs.

Seventhing, but we should probably make a thread to be safe so people aren't blindsided.

Bumping. Has the thread been created? If it hasn't, which sub-forum would it be in? (I don't have a lot of experience with that, I'm sorry)

I'd create the thread myself, but I also don't know where it goes.
