I think it's entirely fine to discuss one's feelings on the change in the thread about the show, is it not? I mean, both shows are on That Guy With the Glasses, and this is the thread for the site. If you wish to move on, feel free to do so. If others want to move on, then the previous topic will be lost in the shuffle. Of course, it's not that there can be only one. There can be several topics running concurrently.

For the record, I never really watched Demo Reel, nor did I catch much of the last few months of the Nostalgia Critic. Before and after To Boldly Flee, I wasn't and haven't been on that site very often. It's not about either show being off or on, I'm just disappointed because I really liked he way To Boldly Flee ended. The whole scene in Reality worked very nicely, and I liked the final lines of he last part, forming a bookend and giving the series closure. The way this revival comes about feels like it jus cheapens that.

Anyway, I agree with Frozen Wolf. I'd like to see him spend more time explaining why exactly a film failed to be as good as it could have been rather than just point out what was good or bad about it.

"The Top 11 Favorite NC Jokes" had him mentioning he was trying to do more analyzing instead of riffing, but just couldn't help himself for the "Wood!" bit in Signs.

Overall I think one of the things that concerns most of the people who grew more attached to the direction of DR only to be snapped back to NC, is tht Doug is going to lose a lot of his creativity with It's the Same, Now It Sucks!.

I've mentioned this before, but I think the best thing for him to do with The Nostalgia Critic is not make it as it once was, but instead make it rebecome the show it never was. Make it more like a sketch comedy and try to include Tacoma and Rebecca into it somehow, like giving them their own segments or panels.

This will just get buried in the early morning rush, but I'd like to say this: The Critic never really left. The skits were the same, Doug is a megalomaniac with a slightly altered costume, and the humor seemed directed at high schoolers.

While I share the belief that CA has seen better days, and Doug probably has mortgages on his mind, this is not a catastrophe.

An interesting way to go about it would be for the Nostalgia Critic to incorporate more constructive criticism. Like: "This part was bad, but it could have been done well. Here's how I'd do it," and cut to the Demo Reel people acting out a better version of the scene. Then again, it seemed like what people who liked Demo Reel liked more about it was the behind-the-scenes stuff rather than the actual movie-remaking part, so maybe that's not the best direction to go in.

Well, it wouldn't be exactly the same as Donnie and the other two doing their usual shtick in Demo Reel if they're being used as a demonstration for something could have been done, instead of doing their usual shtick. That might work out pretty well.

Donnie Small Name, Big Ego died at the pilot, as did Rebecca's. Just look at his depression at the con.

That's less popcorn and more depressing. Doug kept up his optimism (in public anyway) until the very end and it was a nice dark little show.

I loved Linkara's cameo. "It's just Pollo and Harvey that are real". The former is technically true after all.

See, shit like that through me off. Lindsey plotting Doug's murder, Lewis having totally lost it...Doug hallucinating the Critic had to happen for the plot to work, but I wasn't really getting a "real world" impression from the real-world stuff. It was funny, mind you, but it through me for a loop.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Lindsay's long struggled in an epic battle with the Critic. This is just an extension of that. It's like she's the Queen Of Dragons trying to keep the CA Iron Throne.

Also, considering how many jokes Linkara's fans have made about his Cybermat addiction, was it any surprise it wouldn't turn up in a real video?

[up]The Chick has long struggled with the Critic, and I fail to see how a neigh-compulsive need to build things translates to Lewis's mind blurring fiction and reality and thinking Pollo and Harvey are real.

I am genuinely shocked they gave up on Demo Reel so quickly. But, before today, I had only watched the first episode, and quite honestly I thought it was completely terrible. I only watched the other four episodes today, out of respect for the dead, I guess.

Guys, Demo Reel was DOA from the getgo. There was no way it was going to succeed. In terms of quality, I'd say only episodes 4 and 5 were worth watching, and even then they didn't exactly make me want more. They wrapped up their shit but good and it didn't need to be extended any further.

But more importantly, quality aside, it could never have been a success. It was introduced terribly (that transition could have been so much smoother), and they were essentially trying to make a sitcom succeed, in sitcom format, despite the fact that long-form original content almost never ever ever ever ever succeeds on the Internet. And they didn't have any technical skills or production values. It just LOOKED like shit. The reason the Nostalgia Critic took off is because it provided content that you couldn't get on cable. Its DIY aesthetic worked in its favor. It did not with Demo Reel. I just really don't see how it was ever going to really WORK.

I mean, it's nice that many of you wanted it to continue, but that interest wasn't shared. What Doug and co. do is a job as much as anything. If Demo Reel continued the site was going to wither and die.
