The Official Unofficial That Guy with the Glasses Thread.:

17426 Talden, Sat, 13th Oct '12 4:04:40 AM from my chair.
Second from the left.
(Late to the party, as always...)

As far as underrated reviewers go, I have a soft spot for That Sci-fi Guy. Produces very little, and the reviews aren't hilarious as others might be, but I always look forward for a new video. I don't know, the way he analyze things appeals to me, switching from fan rage to insightful informations to honest opinion. It's just a very good mix. I don't care for his brew reviews, however.

Also, Nash is always great. The lives shows are delightful, and his Doctor Who reviews are absolutely hilarious. He's becoming one of my favorite more and more every time.

And Oancitizen... is he even underrated at this point? He's incredible! Maybe just the subject matter isn't selling as well as nostalgia, and he gets less views? We'll have to wait a little for new reviews, since he's studying right now, but every new thing from him is a delight to me. waii

A liveblog? In my sig'? That's more likely than you think.
Uncle George
People say Oancitizen is unpopular, but what I gather is that he gets pretty decent number of views, and on the site, at least a few pages of comments on every video. He also went from starting his show to being picked up on TGWTG in eight months, which is pretty impressive. and throughout this time, there's been very little change in formula, except that his new reviews are less negative.

[ed.] Also, using Tumblr as a barometer, Kyle has a good number of dedicated fans.

I consider Kyle to be on about the same "tier" as Todd, Phelous, and Lupa—high on the "B list", very nearly "A list".

And I know we have debates on it all the time, but I consider the "A list" to be Doug, Lindsay, Lewis, Brad, formerly Spoony, and maybe Joe (mostly by virtue of running Blistered Thumbs).

"Low B list" ("B- list?") would be Rollo T, Y Ruler of Time, Hagan, Welshy, Sad Panda, Rap Critic, Sci-Fi Guy.

"C list" would be like Blockbuster Buster, Psychotaku, Sean Fausz, Leon Thomas. Not bad, just low visibility.

It's all very imprecise. And probably mostly my own perception rather than actual views.

Groovy.

That list seems pretty legit. It would help if there were numbers to quantify this, but blip doesn't show viewcounts, and counting ratings/votes, and comments would be a bit laborious.

[ed.] oh by the way, speaking of Leon Thomas, I interviewed him

Leon seems pretty good. I have to admit, I'm a little put off by the brusque attitude he gives off in his videos (I was actually kind of insulted by his Minecraft review), but he really knows his shit when it comes to film knowledge.

I watched Oancitizen pretty regularly until I started getting grossed out by the movies he reviews.

same reason I don't watch Cinema Snob, really.

[up]His later reviews don't have as many movies with that kind of content.

Sean Fausz is still on the site?

I've tried giving the famed Cinema Snob a chance but he's just not for me, I am not knowledgeable enough in cinema or stuff before my birth to be able to decipher even a quarter of his reference-ese making his stuff impenetrable for me. It's like I'm hearing words that are in plain English but wihout context they equate to gibberish.

I just plain don't like the Cinema Snob, but I love everything else Brad does. Eighties Dan is one of my favorite things on the site.

From what I gather, most people from the era this stuff is from wouldn't get it either. According to (I think this is where I heard it) Spoony's TBF commentary, Brad likes to reference stuff that he knows only a tiny few will get, because (paraphrased) "even though not everyone will get it, the right people will."

Personally, I'm just not that interested in the films he reviews as the Cinema Snob (though the few CS vids I've seen were alright). I do love DVD-R Hell, though, for all the weird and obscure crap that digs up (I especially love the "Rock: It's Your Decision" review), and I've been meaning to check out Brad's other videos for a while.

Cinema Snob is one of my absolute favourites, because he tries so hard to be unflappable and cultured, but just can't in the face of all the schlock he has to watch. [lol]

I love the joke in Tromeo And Juliet where Snob says he can't enjoy a movie (R+C Are Dead, I think) because Ebert gave it zero stars, and Kyle just whimpers. [lol]

Hmm... then would "Middle B List" Be producers like Sage or JO?

I think the references is part of why I love the Snob. If it's an obscure reference I actually get it just makes it better.

[up][up]I... guess. I hadn't really thought it through that far. I guess I'd restate it like so:

Tier 1: Doug, Lindsay, Lewis, Brad, Joe, (Spoony), (AVGN)

Tier 2: Todd, Kyle, Lupa, Phelous, Film Brain, Team Four Star*

Tier 3: Benzaie, Sage, JO, Nash, JewWario, Paw, MarzGurl, 8-Bit Mickey, Ed Glaser, Suede, (Goggles)

Tier 4: Rollo T, Y, Hagan, Welshy, Sad Panda, Rap Critic, Sci-Fi Guy, Roses

Tier 5: Everyone else

And once again, I reiterate that this is based solely on my own perceptions, not actual numbers.

I remember them posting up DB Abridged up to about episode 10 and then pretty much abruptly stopping...at this point, they're pretty much contributors In Name Only.

I wasn't including just Channel Awesome in my list (hence Spoony and AVGN). Plus they may not contribute to TGWTG, but Little Kuriboh and Team Four Star are still part of the same "family" of content producers IMO.
