We Are Our Avatars (Discussion)

Well, it's...certainly been a while since I've been here, but I finally managed to get a few weeks of time to kill since where I work is winding down and closing up for a while and most of the things are sent by email.

So...I was thinking of coming back here and playing again, try to get back into the swing of things if that'd be fine, if anyone wants to help get me up to speed. I mean, aside from what Sparty's running.

H-Hopefully it'll all go well. >.<

Right now, everyone is staying at Hadfield, a small-town-sized colony based on a very Earthlike world, Voluspa. The entire draw of it - at least, for players - is that being a very large and personally unexplored wilderness playground, anyone can find whatever they want beyond colonial borders or run whatever type, style, or genre of plot they want to without needing to worry that it "doesn't fit".

This being done mostly because we've entered a slow spell where nobody had any ideas for future plots or places to go, but everyone knew they didn't want to stay in the literal radioactive Hell that is Nether Vegas.

Ah, alright. I think I'll play it safe for the moment and just try to keep up/interact for the time being. Still a bit nervous, to be perfectly honest and deciding on who to use, so I might be posting a little late today.

And Nether Vegas, huh? That certainly takes me back. Either way, thanks a lot Sparty, I appreciate it.

...Um, and to avoid a double-post, just a head's up I won't be around for posting this Saturday/7th of Friday for most US time-zones. I've got a few errands and things I need to do in the city tomorrow, sorry. >.<

Sweet! This seems amazing. Just, how does linking an original character work? Drawing is hard. I really don't want to have to make him.

A lot of people usually just find art that suits their character from elsewhere on the Internet and use that as a surrogate.

Thank you! Other thing, how should I link the description of the charecter?

In general the most we'd like is a description of your character's personality. While relevant powers and/or trinkets are nice to have, as well, this game is primarily about interacting with other characters, so personality is generally more important to us.

Character: Doctor James "Squid" Toaster. He is pretty sure this is his name.

Personality Realist. Sarcastic but kind. Really likes science, puns t-shirts, and other weird things. May be a little crazy. Knows a lot about time anomalies. Arachnophobia.

Description of appearance: Lanky, and tall. Has blue skin, brown hair, a lab coat that hangs to his knees, and mirrored glasses. Also has a red clipboard. May or may not be human. He doesn't know. He reacts to pain with yelling.

Other: He has the ability to shrink and grow in height/size proportionally. Normally stays at 8 foot. All physical or superficial wounds will heal in exactly 1 hour. This applies to all wounds, no matter how small. Will bleed, but if decapitated, he will just be a head until he regenarates. Cannot bring back more than from just his head. This does not effect anything besides his lab coat and clipboard and himself. Because this, he has a pretty high pain tolerance.

Other other: He has been shoved into alternate realities many times, always on accident. He worked at the SCP Foundation at one point, and has weird things happening to him, like time loops, paradoxes, multiple self, etc. Happens rarely.

Super important Avatar explained: Any types of photo taken of him has him replaced with a toaster in proportion, like if he is 10 feet away in a photo, he will be replaced with a normal sized toaster, which will appear to be 10 feet away from the camera.. Does not apply to limb photos and chunks, just the main portion, or just the head.

Well, the thing I suppose I should first ask is the obvious.

That being why the visual representation of what seems like a scientist is a toaster.

Dr. Toaster I don't mean to burst your bubble but you haven't been approved to join just yet. I am not incharge of this but what Rai is saying is that first of all you need an avatar that actually represents how your character looks.

As for the rest of your signup I will leave that too the discretion of the G Ms actually in charge of this, but I do ask that you wait until someone actually says you're "Approved" before you jump in.

Sorry about jump in! If I am not approved, he will just stay as mysteriously gone poof! I am not the best at these things!

Okay. My second question is...why do all photos look like toasters with this guy?

He doesn't know. He has had it for a long time, but he knows that he didn't have it since birth. Considering all of the universe shunting and the SCP Foundation, and his tendency to have weirdness happen to him, who knows where he picked it up?

Well, alright, but tbh nobody's gonna remember what this guy looks like if his representation is an ordinary toaster. If that's all to your character, then I suppose it's okay. But before we give you any go-ahead, I'll leave it open for anyone else to give feedback, and for the current dm to describe the setting in case you have any other questions you need answered.

Ok! Honestly, I will replace the avatar ASAP. I will keep the toaster idea, but will likely make it more minor. I am eagarly awaiting feedback.

The current setting is the colony of Hadfield, existing on a planet that's almost like Earth but not quite. Despite what the name may suggest, Hadfield is more like a bustling small town that also happens to have a massive factory complex and a spaceport.

I don't really plan on running anything in the town; I mostly made it as a holding area since nobody else had any ideas in mind for places to go or plots to run, so other people can do their own thing if they want to. Just avoid massive collateral damage.
