Clarifying on areas:

Dunes: comes from 4U and was already a revamp of the original Desert from MH;

Verdant Hills: Forest & Hills, the very first area from the very first MH. It also keeps the intro of the original opening, which I loved;

Arctic Ridge, Marshlands and Volcano: 2nd Generation Snowy Mountains, Swamp and Volcano, repsectively;

Deserted Island and Misty Peaks: 3rd Generation;

Everything else: MH 4.

Of course I'm not counting the special areas, like where you fight Alatreon, Akantor, Ukanlos, Amatsu... I haven't gotten there yet, so I'm not sure which stages they used.

I decided to try out the Lance since I've started knocking out some of the HR1 Hub quests.

I don't know if spamming Dash Attack -> Jump Attack is the best strategy, but it sure is fun.

I am actually beginnign to like Adept Gunlance. Block -> Reload -> Shoot until it is wiggiling on the ground. Then Dragon Blast it. Rinse and repeat until down.

Got the stuff for Tetsucabra pretty easily this time. RNG goddess liked me and tossed down more Paddock Oil than i needed and gave me the Dignified Skull on my second run.

Beat "The Fated Four" quest! No faints and in just 26 minutes.

Granted, all of them except for the Glavenus are pushovers, but it was still a fun quest nonetheless!

Back online, now i have to map out where i want to go. 1-star is going by in a blur (actually the first quest was helping someone out with their 2-star urgent, Blangongo).

I want armor with Guard Up, that's always been a priority of mine, but it seems like that might be in 3-star, both online or in the village, and i seem to need three-star also to push my lance any higher than it is. But i guess i should look at the weapon tree first, since maybe there's a branch off that's easier than what i'm doing right now.

Is the Fated Four quest Low-Rank, btw?

Yup- it's in 6-star village. You have to do all of the "story quests" first.

Did the USJ even quest and got the armor set

Man that quest is difficult- the Glavenus does so much more damage than it usually does. But it's definitely worth it, because the USJ armor is almost ridiculously good. It doesn't hurt that it looks really pretty.

Volcano is locking me out from advancing a good chunk of my weapon sets: Dragonite Ore, Fire Herbs, Remobra parts. Seems like the only thing i can get in HR 2 is the Drill Lance, which just needs Electro Sac from Khezu. Possibly the Malfestio-based Charge Blade i want, the issue there might be ore requirements in between (since other stuff i need is based on HR 2 or HR 1 monsters like Nibelsnarf or Lagombi, but to get there demands Dragonite Ore or Fire Herbs).

Might be jinxing it here, but...

I wonder if my copy of the game doesn't have the Desire Sensor. Because I got all five of the Wingtalons I needed from hunting just two Astalos. >_>

Fire Herb tip helped a lot, now i've got my two low-end gunlances started, Genenam (Gendrome based Paralysis) and the Lagomberator, an Ice gunlance. I'm in progress on other points too, though i hit the wall on Rathalos parts, Remobra parts, and Dragonite Ore. My next set of armor is also based on Uroktor parts, so the next step is to gun for HR 3 and then i can start gathering again and really get my weapons solidified.

I tried a charge blade earlier and it ruled. Might want to make more of them.

Yeah, Charge Blade is pretty good. I am actually deliberately avoiding using it Guild Style.

I'm trying out heavy bowgun this time around. Guild style is a bit clunky, but feels smoother than previous games. Haven't tried adept or striker yet. Oh my Gog(mazios), aerial is fun. So bouncy and flippy. Make the HBG feel less like a slow rifle and more like a shotgun. Free reload for bouncing off a monster is so awesome.

Adept is really good on all gunners, the ability to nope out of an attack from siege mode cannot be beat.

Almost there, i think just the Najarala quest and i'll be ready to roll on HR 3 and the second wave of new weapons.

Plus volcano mining as my old money-grinding standby, which works because the level up system is convenient, but a killer on my zenny.

I usually use Prowler and grind everything. Gets me about 4k each trip.

Up to HR 3, now time to go gathering-crazy and max out low-rank before i focus on getting the key quests done (though doubtless i'll do a few keys anyway from necessary hunts, like all the Rathalos parts i'm going to need).

Is Lagiacrus' theme not in this game? I fought it for the first time just now, and the music was just the regular Deserted Island theme.

It hasn't had it's theme since Tri.

Which, ironically, makes it even more of a Foil for Rathalos. Both are flagship monsters that lost their boss theme the next game

Lagiacrus never had its own theme. It always used the area's music.
