I can't see any reason not to merge and add Inspired by… as a redirect to Very Loosely Based on a True Story.
Bump. Sounds good to me.
I think the difference is Inspired By implies the writers are saying, "We got the basic idea of this from a true story, but we took plenty of liberties," and Very Loosely implies they're saying, "This is based solidly on fact," when they actually took several liberties.
No, that's Dan Browned. I always thought this referred to when writers admit their work was inspired by another work of fiction without being a direct adaptation or a Spiritual Sequel or something like that. There are several examples of this in the wicks. Can't we redefine it to that instead of wasting it as a redirect?
Regulated fun - the best kind! I don't make the rules, just enforce them with an iron fist.Bump. There is now a single prop merge crowner here.
I think I'd almost rather broaden Inspired by… to cover both real life and other works examples.
My favorite example of the latter was a show, named after a movie and a book, which claimed to be "inspired by characters from a book by..." (emphasis mine). It definitely was not a Spiritual Sequel in any sense. :)
But I'm easy either way.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Or like the Magic The Gathering card Creepy Doll◊ was inspired by the Jonathan Coulton song of the same name?
Rhymes with "Protracted."In the alternative (if we don't broaden Inspired by…), I recommend that we broaden Very Loosely Based on a True Story (which honestly may be broad enough already) and merge as suggested. The distinction (if any) is fairly subtle and minute as it is.

Start working on the merge. I'd suggest a sandbox page for that.

Inspired by… — Isn't this the same thing as Very Loosely Based on a True Story? I fail to see the difference.
