All Purpose Negima Fanfiction Thread: ![]() ![]() Cool Old Guy?
I doubt that I could. I barely can manage to write 500 words a week, if I am lucky.
In unrelated news, HEY CYGNUS! I found something you might appreciate. It might be part of Touhou, but the pic for thisMadman with a box? I'm a madman with a semi, a pretzel bender and a Heart of Gold!

Oh? We're discussing our original fiction? I have three settings, but word of Sereg is that they're all part of the same multiverse. Crossing over with them shouldn't be too hard due to that. I'd be happy to be involved in writing crossovers between them and other works, including stuff that you guys may come up with. My multiverse doesn't contain an infinite number of universes, but it may as well. I calclated tht t has in the ballpark (very roughly. I could be orders of magnitude off) of 4 X 10^106 currently living universes (and many more dead ones). My Magical Girl story is turning out more violent than I originally planned, but I'm oky with the result. While Nanoha is a big influence on it, Madoka is the biggest (it's not as dark as Madoka though). Interdimensional travel is actually a basic skill for the magical girls (or fey guardians as they're called In-Universe) there, but it's limited interdimensional travel. for that, I'd like an anime adaptation. I have an ending planned, but I already know what I'd do for a sequel, should there be demand for it. My scifi setting would be nice as live action. Again, I know how the ending would go, but it could be continued. Spacial warping is agan a standard ability there, so there areoptions for crossovers there. My biggest and oldest setting is difficult to adapt as it's very Discworldy in terms of shifting protagonists and different books dealing with completely different situations. It's easy to cossover with though.

@SCM: Thank you!
Yeah, my magical girls aren't a family. They're recruited in a Kyubey-esque manner, but they're placed in teams as well. A team is considered full when they have six members. One for each magical element/primary and secondary paint colour (whichever way you prefer to look at it).

Say, for my Negima Piece project, which of the Ala Alba/3-A characters should/could be assigned Devil Fruits to reflect certain powers/abilities that they possess? And how plausible is it for Mad Scientist Satomi to having either invented or reverse-engineered a formula that allows her to "transmute" a mass of fresh water (somewhat-large-pool-sized amount being the rough maximum) such that it does not having the same nullification effect on Devil Fruit users as normal "running water" does? If the latter is too story-breaking, what limitations can be added that would still allow the White Wing Crew's DF-using members to have use for an indoor swimming pool on their ship?

@rikalous: Sure. I've actually been making some progress recently in my Magical Girl story. The main thing slowing me down is choosing names and designing the language of the fey (I want it to look like it is related to Sindarin, but not the same language) at the moment. I've only named two of the girls in my main team so far: Thembi and Jennifer. I haven't even named the protagonist yet. As for the non-humans, I decide what their nme should translate into very easily, but I'm still designing the language, so there we go. The mascot's name, for example, translates to "magnetism cat". The Dragon who is fought in the first and second scenes of the story (Sorting Algorithm of Evil? Nope.) has a name that would translate to "inferno eagle".
I'm also happy to answer questions about any of my original or fanworks.

@sereg: I suggest you decide the sentence structure (what order verbs, nouns, pronouns, etc go in a standard sentence) and take it from there. I'm using the sentence structure of German, words taken from every language I know applied liberally with Engrish ('L' becomes 'R', etc), then run it through a substitution cypher until I get a word I like the sound of for my language. After all, as my linguistics class taught me, the meaning of words is arbitrary.
You have any chapters I can read?
As for Satomi Marq, will merely adding mineral salts of sodium chloride produce the effect you want?

Not really. It's not just seawater that affects DF users; any body of "standing" water (as opposed to "moving" water, like rain or waves), including bathtub water, will nullify a DF user's ability to use their DF powers in any body part of theirs that is submerged in said water (for One Piece fans, they should be familiar with Nami and Kalifa's bathroom battle as an example), and immobilizes them if they're knee-deep in it.

@SCM: You're right. I'm trying too hard as far as the language is concerned. I'm going to use a substitution cipher to immitate language evolution and apply it to Sindarin words (and words from simiar languages) and apply a combination of Sindarin and Quenya grammar (mainly basedon making it easier for myself). Still need to name the girls though. I haven't written a full chapter yet. Most of it is still in planning stages, but I can progrss faster now. I've go about the first four pages written. If you want to see, then I can show them to you.

Nah, I'll wait. Notes, while interesting, are best when you have an actual chapter to compare them against.
As to names... well, while they are technically ALSO arbitrary, most names lean towards having attached symbolism. My suggestions are, either you pick a name that has some symbolism related to thier power set, or symbolism related to thier significance in the story. Messianic figures tend to have names like Christopher, Jess, etc. You get the idea.
Another way is to make up names that are expies of the characters that closrst resemble your character, or whom you drew inspiration from. For example, my Nanoha expy is named Yoctoha, where 'Yocto-' is a preffix that is smaller smaller than the 'nano-' preffix.
Alternately, any time you think of or encounter a name you like, you write it down on a list and refer to that ist in case you ever get stuck for character names.
Finally, you just pick a random name completely devoid of symbolism, meaning or relation. In real life there ARE plainly-named people named John or James or Daniel after all.
Though if you still need female names, here are a few from my list:

No, those are four pages of actual story (if unedited)

This is the impression that I want to give. I want them to have incredibly standard names for their race, but each of them is from a different race.

Well, then I'd be happy to look it over, though you might not like my opinion. Send it to the Ala Iridia account?
And if you want them to have 'standard' names for their race, then pick a naming convention (like, say, how Latin names tended to end in '-ius' or '-us'), establish it, then explicitly give your character the local equivalent of 'Jane Doe', having them say so in their narration how common their names is. As a general rule, people rarely accept names that has 'X' in it to be common names, and sometimes 'V' and 'Z' as well, though if they are in the middle or end they are sometimes acceptable. To hammer the point home, have the name start with 'J-'. Most languages have the 'common as dirt' names start with 'J-' (John, Juan, Jean, Jacinto...).

@SCM: Okay, but not right now. I need to remove the spoilery notes anyway. As for the names, I don't mean necessarily at Jane Doe level either. I'm naming the white girl Jennifer. My point is that I want to find ou which names really are common in those races. (I need to DO THE RESEARCH). I suppose there's a website that can tell me this?

![]() Damn You For Infecting Me, You Hot Blooded Perv!
Well, if they're fictional races, again, how common a name is is arbitrary to how common YOU say it is. Though for ideas, if you have any, pick up an RPG core rulebook that details races and have a look at their 'common names' section. If nothing else, you'll get ideas for new names.

Prideful Prince
Names starting with J are kind of rare in Argentina...
Also, Alipheese? That's the name of a slut! A slut that's also a virgin, despite numerous attempts at raping young boys.

What? I LIKED the name Alipheese. It's kinda cute, how she was afraid of ghosts. And quick-eyed readers will spot her in a Sneeze Spot in the latest chap of URAE…
And she's not a slut, she's a traveling gourmet sampling cuisine!
Also OM, I'd like to thank you for allowing me to contribute to the URAE project. It's one of the best, funnest settings I've ever seen.

I resemble that remark!
And as for a naming reference, there is a good RPG book called Extraordinary Book of Names from the Troll Lord Games bunch. VERY handy for me.
