I've seen the first five episodes of Angelic Layer, as dubbed by...Anime Network, I'm guessing?

It's not the greatest thing in the world. That girl who cheers on Misaki has kinda an annoying voice, but maybe she's supposed to be like that.

It's dubbed by ADV. ANN only has the dub version available, so I'll probably end up watching that anyway. FUNimation, however, has both versions of Heroic Age available, so I'm definitely interested in hearing what anyone has to say about that.

Yeah, it's not the best thing in the world. I just watched episode 6.

Cheering girl is a bit annoying (though probably meant to be), Hotoko is kinda weird, Misaki...'s script just doesn't seem to work too smoothly, so maybe that's not her voice actress's fault.

Is the RahXephon dub any good?

HERE!
I heard 5 seconds of it and it made my ears bleed.

That bad?

Well, I Googled to see other people discussing it, and Wicked's opinion seems pretty unpopular. I saw one review claiming it was the best dub they'd ever seen, and even the people who disliked it mostly said that it wasn't bad, just not as good as the Japanese, and that they'd seen worse.

Unrelated, but on one of the forums I went on I found a post by someone I assume is our very own Arilou, talking about the German dub.

ZENRYOKU ZENKAI!
Check it out yourself?
Buckethead was real sad but it seemed like he played guitar better than ever. All the grey people and angels in the cemetery listened to the music and it was so beautiful they just stood still and speechless.

Well, I plan on getting the DVD and I will try both versions to see which I prefer. I just like getting opinions on these things.

I thought I was only going to sample a few lines, but I ended up watching an entire episode.

Hmm, this seems like something I might enjoy. It does go into mind screw territory in the second half of the episode, though; granted, later episodes may explain that but I don't know yet.

Also, that is a TON of visual cues to Evangelion.

Oh, right, the dub quality! A ha ha, I almost forgot. It's good, I think. Not the best thing in the world, but definitely good, or possibly even better than plain good.

According to the long-ass PM Sneebs sent me about why I should watch the show, the pieces of the plot fall together as the show goes on.

Ayato and Haruka are played particularly well IMO. Indeed, Chris Patton claimed that Ayato was his favorite character he had ever voiced (apparently he started crying in the booth when he finished recording for the movie). And yes, that is Monica Rial playing Haruka.

Is that Monica Rial playing a character played by Aya Hirano?

Well, that wouldn't be the only time.

Wait, My Anime List says that that wasn't Aya Hirano, but Aya Hisakawa.

I've watched the whole Rah Xephon dub (and own it), and I really liked it, though I admit I've never watched the subbed version; I especially liked Justin Sevaakis's performance as Itsuki Kisaragi, and whoever did Isshiki.

Speaking of dubs you did/did not like, what did you guys think of the Serial Experiments Lain dub (I ask because I just finished rewatching it recently)?

I'm getting a nostalgia attack from rewatching the first series. Hard to believe a few of these voice actors were rookies or not too well known when they dubbed this and 6 years later they're big stars. Vocal Evolution FTW!:)

The only animé I really watch at the moment is Naruto... and I can only stand to watch it subbed. I watched one episode dubbed due to technical issues, and it was like slow torture. Sasuke had the most terrible American voice actor of the lot, with Sakura not far behind. The only American voice actor I actually enjoyed listening to was the one who played Orochimaru, who was at least as good as the original Japanese VA if not better.

Also, I remember from my kiddie days watching the dubbed on... Toonatik or Cartoon Network or something... and Haku actually sounded like a full-grown female rather than a slightly feminine child. This led me to believe he was actually a girl, and I only recently learned the error of my ways.
