All I know is the title guy is a moron and I often find myself baffled by the title, but then looking at the original in the URL and going "THAT makes more sense"

The today's social situations one in particular. I really like the non-commital titles. "5 Lessons From a Computer Programmer" was a good one. It didn't try to tell you what was in there or what you would learn or anything. Simple.

The titles are click bait, nothing more. At least Cracked's topics are usually more entertaining than the Huffington Post's.

I'm very sorry for participating in the conversation after being asked to bring it to another thread and my flippant remarks weren't intended as a challenge to mod authority in any way. Sorry about that, I don't want to start anything.

Anyways, I think the titles being wrong is worth it sometimes for the hilarious comments about it. Honestly, sometimes I like the high-voted Cracked comments more than the articles themselves.

The worst was the "two movies combined to make am worse movie" one because it same movies that are pretty universally considered good on it.

[up][up]That last part is definitely true. Not sure about the first part though. Sometimes when the titles are too incongruent the entire comments section becomes about that and not the article.

And if I claim to be a wise man, well, it surely means that I don't know.

The unholy trinity of Cracked is apparently ATB, AuntieMeme and the title guy, or so I've heard.tongue

ATB's latest article seems to be scraping the bottom of the barrel. I don't need to read some article to know what its like to be sober for 24 hours! says a lot about ATB tho

Is being sober for 24 hours really such a special occasion for him that it's worthy of a whole article? That's honestly a little depressing.

Yes, give in to your hate, let it override your basic judgment sense, muwahahahaha!

Nobody would be complaining if Brockway released a column with the exact same title. His entire shtick was being a violent lunatic who is constantly speedballing twelve different kinds of drugs, and fans loved it.

[up][up]...that seems...insensitive?

I mean it's not a good article but that seems like it would be better suited for a personal blog post.

I mean, drug addiction, it's a thing.

Thinking on it, Chris Bucholz could also release an article with that exact same title and premise and be applauded.

Cracked has gotten a lot of mileage out of hilarious psychos on drugs, and the only reason people are going, "Hmph, how sad and pathetic this person's drug habit is!" is because it's ATB who wrote it.

Sorry, my bad, I meant sad, not sad. I'll pothole that to Sincerity Mode. I just mean that being an alcoholic paints him in a really different light. I think everyone usually just assumes he's a jerk for no reason.

Meh. My reaction was "That looks like it could be an interesting topic. Too bad ATB is writing it—past experience has taught me that he's not funny at all."

I didn't write any of that.

It's because Bucholz and Brockway have insane personas. ATB, beyond his general unfunnyness, has genuine problems with alcoholism. That tends to take the humor value out of an article.

I've seen ONE good ATB article and it was the one about stupid "As-Seen-On-TV" products.

It can be, but it can also make you biased. For example, way back when, there was a forumer person I despised. One day they posted something semi-normal, but I still hated them and disagreed with them for that reason alone. Then I realized something, it wasn't them at all, but someone with an avatar of the same character.

So it can be pattern recognition but you're more inclined to be less forgiving if you dislike the person to start with.

Sure. But when nine times out of ten clicking ATB's articles is a disappointment, I'm not too broken up about the risk of missing out on that tenth.

Having just read the article, very little of it is even about alcoholism. ATB notes that giving up both alcohol and weed were the easy part, because he doesn't drink regularly and weed is amazingly easy to give up. It's his prescription medication for anxiety and ADD as well as his nicotine gum that kicked his ass.

"Sober" was a poor choice of words and you can blame Title Guy for that. A better title would be, "Five things I learned giving up all narcotics and prescription medications for 24 hours for a Comedy Club gimmick."
