When he was fired I actually agreed with bill O'Reilly for the 2nd time in one week; god help us if there would of been a 3rd.

I suspect there's a lot more to this little incident than meets the eye.

I'll just leave it at that.

Maybe he pulled a Rick Sanchez and went off on Jews?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but after NPR canned him, he was hired in short order by Fox News, at a salary of $2,000,000 per year.

Given that he admitted himself that his fear of being on a plane with Muslims was not a rational one, I'm skeptical that he's conservative enough for Fox News. I think they're liable to regret their choice on this, since it'll look bad if they fire him after such a high profile hiring process.

I looked it up, and NPR currently receives no direct funding from the federal government, and only 1.5% of their funding indirectly from the government through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Having that funding cut off would probably not pose more than a trivial inconvenience.

...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back.

[up] Probably another few hours of fund-raiser time. They finally finished their six-month challenge thing here in Hawaii. Irritating how they would simply cut off in the middle of something to chat about how awesome their fund-raiser was going.

[up] It wasn't just cutting an article or news report short, it was cutting the thing off mid-sentence to blab about the fund-raiser. Or in the middle of a delicious piece of classical music. Then, after finishing their sales pitch, they would go back into a bit of news or music or whatever, and not always the same thing it had been before.

I understand the whole point, though.

He'll be fine as their Token Colored Guy, just like how Alan Colmes did fine as their token Straw Liberal.

For one thing, he doesn't seem to come off in a manner that suggests he's a professional journalist interested in reporting the facts, and he doesn't seem like the kind of person I'd like to work with on a day to day basis.

Fair point. Incidentally, this is similar to the reason I was happy about Rick Sanchez's firing from CNN before even reading what he'd said; Sanchez should have been fired much sooner.

Something interesting happened in the editors' meeting for my college newspaper this week. My boss (the editor-in-chief), who is very conservative, actually said that NPR made the right choice. Basically, since this was a third or fourth-time thing, he said they really had to fire him to show that yeah, when we give you a warning, we mean it.

What did Williams do to get the first two warnings?
