I wrote a "fanfic" for a pokemon forum for a christmas contest where the theme was "togetherness."

I basically took Pumpkin and Honey Bunny, crossed them with [[Baccano Isaac and Miria]], made them mass murderers, gave them pokemon, and called it a day.

It was a very tender story full of love and explosions.

One of my longest running RP characters was a psychic named Ender but he was based more off of Bean than anything. Oh characters you made when you were 14. He got cooler eventually. And then I killed him off for real using advanced aging, just so he wouldn't get some epic, badass death, and instead he got a drama-filled, character driven story surrounding his death.

Hoo boy. One of my characters, Diablo the Ravager, straddles the line between Big Bad and Anti-Hero. His personality was inspired by Eminem's SlimShady persona, but also with some strong shades of Travis Touchdown and TheJoker. He's a Card-Carrying Villain who will take time out of annhilating a settlement to Kick the Dog(literally) and frequently lapses into Stupid Evil.

Think basically a horrendously powerful Evilly Affable teenaged(at least while he was still human, now he's closer to really 40 years old but still has the personality and appearance of a 17 year old) sorcerer who wants to become a god, take over the universe, and organize the systematic slaughter and sacrifice of demons, devils, humans, asuras, and gods for all eternity. And he loves trolling on Image Boards.

i have a short story (which has the potential to become a book) about an association of paid assassins in which one of the leads, Robert Dzugashvili, is based on Blonde on Blonde era Bob Dylan. Think Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There, with the gigajewfro and the suit, but with a Magnum and an attitude. Following suit, the leader, Mister Reed, is modeled after Lou Reed. Another member, Liam Rosales, is based on Andrea Echeverri, an argentinian songwriter.

i also have a pending character based on Desire of the Endless who in turn is based on Annie Lennox. He/She is the leader of a covenant of illicit sex and a member of a race of Goo Monsters Shapeshifters. Just bear with it.

Just awkwardly standing there, not explaining much necessary context.

In my younger and more formative years, I had a bit of a penchant for ripping people off. As I begin work on Secure the Area, an updated amalgam of my childhood works, I find myself going back and fixing things to make them less...rip-off-y.

  • Asteroid Andy was Spaceman Spiff with a helmet, rounder goggles, and a red-and-yellow color scheme; except he actually was an astronaut for some reason as well as a few years older. His little ship even looked exactly like Spiff's without fins, as did his hair. Fortunately for me, time took care of this one on it's own, as I slowly began making Andy more competent, changed his spikey yellow hair to a flat brown that jutted out a la Mike Warner, and aged him up to a teenager.
  • Anonymous was rather Far Side-esque, with it's only real quirk being that no one's face was ever shown. I eventually latched on to one character, a small boy with Hair Antennae whom I dubbed Anthony, and made him totally batshit insane and mute.
  • Mad scientist J was really just a human version of Zim with a bit less ham and Professor Membrane's fashion sense, though it wasn't really intentional—I was drawing a panel, blinked, and facepalmed at what I had done. I've given him a personality transplant, more tenancies towards For Science! and Cool and Unusual Punishment, lost the backpack and gave him a more realistically-sized lab. I've become rather attached to the costume, though, so I've only given it minor tweaks (changing his extremely hiked-up collar to a form-fitting and extremely hiked-up turtleneck collar and toning down his Anime Hair.)
  • The most blatant example, however, was using the Shrinky-Pig from Captain Underpants #4 as a major plot point in the first issue of my first-ever comic, Kittey <sic> the School Saver. That's not making an Expy, it's out-right plagiarism, and so I've remedied this by showing a single panel of potential blueprints for an original shrink ray, featuring the Shrinky-Pig which is crossed out and labeled "too derivative".

  • One of my female characters was originally inspired by -even I find it strange nowadays- Akiza Izinski from Yugioh 5Ds. My character started as a misunderstood psychic who's life sucks and is therefore emotional. However, since I love grim-darkness, my character has gradually become less emotional and more willingly destructive. The character is now a reclusive, hate-fueled misanthrope who has lost all sense of purpose. People call her a witch, which is completely accurate.

  • A second character is a corporate CEO who has taken heavy inspiration from characters like Jack Sparrow and Eddy(from Ed Edd n' Eddy). As you could probably guess, this character is a total jerk. However, I have made the character more wise than rude over time. Now the character is simply a brilliant person with no reguard for other people. Not much of a change, but it's better than what I started with.

My Ideas only need to make sense to me; even if the idea in question involves other people!

Two minor villains from a story that I've been neglecting for a while are based on the player characters of Gunstar Heroes.

The main characters of my latest story are very loosely based on the guys from Leverage. "Mad" Max Hardcastle is Elliot, Lyle "Ice" Berg is Parker, Gerald "Headcase" Casey is Hardison, and Victor "Black Mark" Marcos is Sophie - with nicknames taking the place of job descriptions (hitter, hacker, etc.)

Very loosely. I'd already come up with these guys before I actually watched that show, though I imagine the commercials inspired me somewhat.

Hmm. Thing is, my characters are a mix-up from all kinds of inspiration.

Anhelia is somewhat inspired by Sharrow in Iain Banks' Against A Dark Background, in terms of characterization — tough on the surface, a thick coat of armor against everything that's out there, a tendency to be hard on those who are close to her. Except that being dead now is changing things; the armor was shattered and things can get through, now, both ways. Partly it's that the fire inside her heart is a little more controlled, so she doesn't need to armor herself against harm quite so much, too. That part isn't Sharrow. She has things of CJ Cherryh's Morgaine in her as well, and a whole bunch of other characters. Looks-wise, inspiration from a million albino-looking characters who wear a lot of black, though in this case it's the bleaching from the making-you-undead process. Bits of her stubbornness are inspired by my wife.

Soot is looks-wise very based on my friend Ashton, if she were a 600-year-old magical robot android thing. Personality is her own, though; if anything, she has parts of me in there.

Mindala is an amalgam of a number of people I personally know, or a distillation of certain parts of them into one coherent personality. She's in some ways my mother (Hello, Mr Freud!) in terms of stubborn practicality, and the notion that anything can be done with sufficient hard work and willpower.

No celebrities harmed, just a few friends and book characters!

A brighter future for a darker age.

I made an OC that unintentionally resembled Tom Cruise. Oddly enough, he was a member of Parallaxia.

pretty much, had hints of being Bi for his second in command. He is also a big believer in his organization who shelled out quite a lot of money...to the religion trying to bring back an evil dragon...who is not really that evil.

Che Guevara Serna and Eva Valverde in Cuba Libre are based on Che and Eva (Peron) from Evita with a parental style relationship and cool backstory for Che. Eva's maiden name is even Duarte, and she wants to be First Lady. Of Cuba.

Although they are tangentially related in terms of personality, appearance-wise, Danbarre from my Suenyaverse stories owes a lot to the Kingdom Hearts representation of Cid. Similarly, I subconsciously based Mariselle's appearance on Ayla from Chrono Trigger... which is weird as I've never actually played the game, only seen the art for it. Weird.

Not really a proper example, but upon watching the original television adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist, I realised that one of my antagonists bore a striking resemblance to that story's underlying villain... but somehow even more loathsome. It clicked with the line about being "loved by the son of Hohenheim," in case you're wondering.

The original concept for Makora, was heavily inspired by Mandy from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.

Reyn is mostly inspired by Jim Moriarty, but he also incorporates elements from The Joker, General Tarquin, Abridged!Freeza and [[Manga/Monster Johan Leibert]].

He als seems to resemble Alex from A Clockwork Orange even though I've never seen A Clockwork Orange before.

I made a werewolf character once who was basically Kurt Cobain. I even named him Curtis. I kinda regret it, in hindsight.

I've been known to use historical figures for inspiration, but the only character of mine who was ever explicitly based on a real person was a minor character in my comics who was essentially George S. Patton, except female and an alien.

I also named various characters after people I knew, but that's pretty much as far as it went.

When I was still young and terrible, all of my characters were such bad ripoffs of other, better written characters that you could tell exactly who I ripped off of. These characters are still being used today, albeit in name or appearance only.

Although they were fundamentally in place as an anti-magocracy revolution with brutal tactics well before The Legend Of Korra was ever a thing, the Crimson, the organization to which my deuteragonist belongs, have since taken a number of influences from the Equalists. (The avatar might tell you I kinda liked them.) Most of these faded back into the background to be replaced by ideas borrowed from various esoteric orders and South American guerrilla movements, but the idea of people with no magical abilities making up for it with intense training to temporarily cripple magic users was simply too good to pass up, even if the details of how it works are fundamentally different. (The fact that their world's magic is obtained via Deal With the Eyes and Teeth helps their cause. The fact that several of their cells have devolved into glorified criminal syndicates... does not.)
