I've been loving the hell out of this series, and am very thankful to the fans who took the time to make such great subtitles, given that the scale of the show means it's never getting an official release over here. This may just be the most epic story I've ever seen, and I've read Romance Of The Three Kingdoms. Tons of great characters, deep moral complexity, and terrific space battles with a focus on strategy even more impressive than seen in Babylon 5. Plus, even with the show's ultra-serious tone it still manages to have plenty of Crowning Moments of Awesome which I've dutifully listed on this site. Finally the list got big enough that I gave it a new page:

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/CrowningMoment/LegendOfGalacticHeroes

(note that I haven't finished the series yet; I'm on episode 69 at the time of this writing)

If you haven't checked this show out, at least give the first couple episodes a try. You may feel completely lost for a while, but it didn't take me long to get the hang of which characters were worth keeping an eye on. The whole series is available subtitled on Veoh.

I swear to god one day I'm going to watch this. Holidays or something.

Considering everyone who has seen it calls it the best anime ever, I'm quite interested. It didn't rank first place on ANN for some time for nothing.

I have the DV Ds, and intend to watch it at some point during this year, but I get huge Hype Aversion from two friends that are obsessed with it.

I'd like to watch this sometime, but a hundred and ten episodes is a lot, and that doesn't count the movies or spinoff series.

Eventually I will do it. Maybe during the summer.

I guess it is.

Watch further.

Also, before you proceed with the series, watch the movie titled My Conquest is the Sea of Stars.

Because it happens right before the events of the series and it gives a better introduction.

I've got a couple episodes of this series on my computer, I'll get around to it eventually.... but the series seems so pumped full of information, I feel like I need to take notes just to keep track of whats going on. But I'm liking it so far, I like the art style and its nice to see a really good political/sci fi anime.

I think my dog is reading my diary.... good thing I haven't kept one in ages.

Going back to the first post, I'd actually recommend that rather than watching the first 2 episodes, people should watch the movie Overture to a New War when starting the series. It is a much expanded upon and improved version of those two episodes, including the events that lead up to them. I always felt that the first two episodes were a somewhat weak introduction, to what is otherwise a completely awesome series. My favourtie series in fact, both my favourite anime and my favourite sci-fi TV-series, beating even the, also very awesome, Babylon 5.

Great series! This is what Mobile Suit Gundam or Star Wars could be. I'm about half-way through. I thought it was quite amusing that Reinhard is sort of a proto-Lelouch.

This series... really has nothing to do at all with Star Wars. One is a Space Opera focused on politics, the other is Space Fantasy. They're both good at their own thing.

Great anime.

I love how realistically unpredictable it was. There are almost no rules, formulas, or conventions that would make it look like an artificial story: Anyone Can Die works literally, showing a photo of your fiance may or may not be followed by your death, etc. Sure, it uses tropes, but it still reads more like a chapter from a future history book, than a tale.

I would have probably gotten into it if this 'getting into it' didn't sound a bit like a chore.

[up]Watch the first few episodes, as you would do with any other series.

If you don't enjoy it, let it go, but if you are like me, and it resonates with you, you will get hooked and run through the whole series in a few days.

Lo GH is by far the greatest piece of Japanese animation ever created. The show makes me want to learn Japanese just so I can read the original novels.

@ shiro okami: I agree wholeheartedly with your post except that would like to say that Oberstein is the closest to being a proto-Lelouch, and hilariously I find him more likable than Lelouch.

[up] While Oberstein and Lelouch share some the same ideology, I don't think he fits, since Oberstein was a beauracrat who quietly supported Reinhard from behind, while Reinhard was the charismatic Young Conqueror who was The Chessmaster and Mary Tzu, all traits that he shares with Lelouch.

I haven't seen CG, but if what I've read/heard about it is correct, then Oberstein's and Lelouch's biggest similarity would be their acting as a "necessary shadow" to Reinhard's and Euphemia/Nunally/Suzaku's light, respectively.

[up] Except Euphemia and Suzaku are Lelouch's rivals; he fights against them rather than support them, and Zero has his own spotlight. If anything, Oberstein is to Reinhard what Lelouch vi Britannia is to Zero.

And if you haven't seen Code Geass yet, you should at least watch the first season, especially if you like LOGH.

[up][up][up][up] By the way, that's interesting about the language, that this anime made me realize that I don't, in fact, speak Japanese.

It has such a rich vocabulary, that it just makes it more obvious that every anime nowadays sounds like if it was written by american weeaboos, as they are so full of "shikata ga nai", and "[protagonist] no Baka", and "Zettai ni mamoru", and "Yurusanai", and "Uso da".

Even translated the difference is still noticable. In terms of dialogue, I can't think of a better anime thant his.
