Did this take the dibs into account? It's hard for me to cross-reference, so I can't tell.

No, it did not take Dibs into account.

It really needs to take dibs into account, because you did list quite a few of the dibs into there.

Also, in the case of those that are linked to forum (i.e. your Diancie article), what you would need to do is make a URL for it,l using the format http :// tvtropes . org / pmwiki / pmwiki.php / Fanon Pokedex / Base Pokemon Name (spaces added to avoid accidentally making a new TV Tropes page). These aren;t necessarily needing to be made by the maker of the article, but that is recommended, and only after it's been sufficiently critiqued.

EDIT: On the Pan-cham/goro article, a few things. As me and Hashil pointed out, Abilities are not to be named, even if implied to be named by trainers and unofficial. Second, in social structure, how do they interact? Do they fight? Do they chat? Do they ignore each other? Third, pandas do eat meat, but you can ignore it, it's nice.

EDIT 2: If there's nothing to say on my Ecruteak article, I'm going to put it up.

And, before I go to bed, here's the Magmar article.

[[quoteright:200px:pics...]]

Magmar Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Magby [#240] Ignianas magmnascor morpha infans
  • Magmar [#126] I. magmnascor morpha garuda
  • Magmortar [#467] I. magmnascor morpha fornax

Notable Biology

All Pokémon in this line are bird-like in appearance, but are actually reptilian, with a heavily skewed male:female ratio of 7:1. Their bodies are all vaguely egg shaped. They all have pyro-sacs by their stomachs.

Magby are one of the species categorized as ‘Baby Pokémon’, alongside Pichu, Elekid, and Smoochum. As such, they are unable to lay eggs themselves, unlike their elder morphs. They average at about 2 feet 3 inches (.7 meters) and 47.2 lbs (21.4 kg). They have bumps the tops of their heads, which both give them a distinct look, and help them cool the heat around their brain with the extra surface area, as their bodies can reach an average of 1,100˚ F (600˚ C). Magby’s bodies are generally a light red, with a yellow bill, yellow flame mark, and black 'collar’.

Magmar are noticeably larger than Magby, coming in at an average of 4 feet 3 inches (1.3 m) and 98.1 lbs (44.5 kg). They develop horns of the sides of their heads to cool their head. As their bodies can climb to twice that of a Magby (2,200˚ F/1,200˚ C), they expel flames more often, and have raised scales on their arms to radiate heat. The tip of their tail holds a flame like the Fanon Pokedex/Charmander line. They have a red and yellow color scheme, the top being red and the bottom being yellow, with a pattern of flames separating the two. Their arms are red, and they have the black ‘collar’, which also are on their wrists and ankles.

Magmortar is the largest and bulkiest of the line, as well as the hottest. They average 5 feet 3 inches (1.7 m) and 149.9 lbs. (68 kg), and their body temperature can climb to an average of 3,600˚ F (2,000˚ C). They have flame-like crests on their heads and shoulders, and its tail has morphed into a flame-like protrusion to fit. Its arms have morphed into cannons, which they are able to close so they can function as hands. Along with the main pyro-sac in their abdomen, they also have secondary sacs in their shoulders that allow them to fire more focused blasts.

There are two submorphs of this line. The main one that is found cannot control their body temperature well, which means whoever touches them will get third-degree burns. Trainer’s Note  The second and much rarer ability gives them trouble sleeping, as the energy used fuel their flames also keeps them active and awake. These specimens do not sleep often, so they may get irritable.

Pokémon of this line have a phenotype mutation that changes their coloring. It is uniform along all the lines – Where the Pokémon was yellow, they are now lavender, and where they were red, now violet.

Habitat

This line is found in either urban areas or mountainous regions. When in urban areas, they tend to live in abandoned and/or ruined buildings, often sites of arson. Examples of this are Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island and the Burned Tower in Ecruteak. In such locations, the Magby are hidden away so that trainers don’t find them.

Magby and Magmar are also found in mountainous regions, such as the Stark Mountain Range of Sinnoh and Mt. Ember of the Sevii Islands. In such areas, they congregate around volcanic openings and craters to bask in the heat. In this area, due to the higher danger for trainers, Magby are not hidden and are more easily found.

There are two introduced populations of Magmar in Johto and Kalos. In Johto, it is in the new Safari Zone, in which they are found in the rocky hills areas. In Kalos, they are in the Fire Friend Safari, which is different from their normal habitats, as it is much grassier.

Magmortar are not often observed in the wild, because they not only stay away from urban areas, but live in the magma of volcanoes.

Diet

The Magmar line is omnivorous with a heavily herbivorous slant. In natural areas, they tend to eat the vegetation that grows on the outside of the mountains they live on. Magby eat the most, as Magmar seems to also get energy from resting in or near flames and other heat sources. Magby are too young to handle it completely, as it is as hot as, or hotter than their body temperature. Magmortar consume a more even mix of heat and vegetation, as they require higher amounts of heat to sustain themselves.

In urban areas where they cannot reach vegetation easily, they eat nearly anything vaguely edible from the trash. To replace the magma or natural fires of more natural environments, they often light trash fires or slink into furnaces of ironworks factories.

Hazards

As shown in Notable Biology, a majority of this line cannot contain their body heat. Do not touch them without protective gear, as it is very dangerous. If you do get burned, quickly apply Rawst Berry Juice, a Burn Heal, or cold water. Trainer’s Note

Magmar are tenacious and are known to hold grudges. They are not as tenacious as Primeape, nor do they follow a grudge as long as a Dustox, but this is still a danger. If you do not completely defeat them, they will track you down and attack you again. Simply neutralizing them or immobilizing them will not be enough, although running before they first attack or defeating them in battle will prevent this. The only time they will continue past those points are if you are approaching their nest. Some have been known to chase after a trainer or Pokémon who dealt swift defeat to them.

Courting and Childrearing

Magby are infertile, while Magmar, and by extension Magmortar, are immediately fertile upon evolution. Magmortar, even in captivity, do not breed often. When they do, they follow the same pattern as Magmar.

Females start the ritual by increasing the brightness of the fire on their tail. They choose their mate by spraying them with a low temperature fire, and the male will then decide whether or not to mate with them. They will almost always choose to mate, as will all other males in the vicinity, even if unchosen. Unchosen males will be violent in their attempts on the female, often maiming or killing the female.

If the female manages to not only survive, but mate with her chosen male, she will carry an egg for a period of 2 weeks. After the 6 months, she lays one egg (occasionally two, but this is rarer), which she then lays next to lava to heat it to its hatching. The hatched Magby follows their mother for 6-9 months before separating and living by themselves, awaiting evolution.

Social Structure

Magmar live in a loose colony structure, with no true leader. These colonies are made of whatever Magmar live within either the building complex or mountain in which they reside. They are mostly apathetic to each other, ignoring any Magmar that they cross unless its breeding season or the other Magmar is injured. Any Magmar who finds a Magby will help them get food if needed.

Magmortar generally do not interact with Magmar and Magby, since they spend so much time in the lava. When they do cross paths, however, they follow the same pattern.

In Human Culture

Magmar and its line has an interesting history with humanity. First, to cover its modern usage. In modern media, it is often paired up with the Electabuzz line, where they share many dynamics. They could be the two guys you see everywhere in a show, a pair of friends whose personalities clash, often the Electabuzz being rowdy and the Magmar being calmer, or two close friends who know each other so well, battling together is second nature. The latter two of the dynamics are used the most, and are often blended together.

Interestingly, in some religions, Magmar are seen as nigh-mythical creatures. It was often compared to or called a Karura (also known as Garuda, hence the use of that name in its trinomial), and was seen as both a holy mount (when depicted as such, the spines on their back are made to be wings) and a sacred warrior. According to customs, they were the bane of all dragons and serpents, although this is myth, do to real Magmar doing poorly against Dragons. Trainer’s Note  These myths are wide spread in Johto, especially Ecruteak, where the religion is still strong.

An interesting incident involving the line was during a war in ancient Sinnoh. A blacksmith for the king’s army had several Magmar there to help heat the metal to forge the weaponry, and would allow one to rest in the forge to gather up energy. The metals used in the weaponry was bronze, which has a forging temperature of 1652˚ F (900˚ C). According to records of the time, during the forging process one day, the blacksmith came under attack by a troop from the opposing army. One of the Magmar was resting in the forge, and the opposing army’s Fire Pokémon increased the temperature in the forge to try to kill it, reaching a temperature said to “turn the bronze to flowing rivers”. This brought the temperature up to around 3551˚ F (1955˚ C), which, instead of killing the Magmar, triggered a new evolution.

This is the first reported sighting of Magmortar, who then drove off the opposing Pokémon. The incident not only showed a new form for the line, but also gave a clue on how to get the form. By giving your Magmar a specialized furnace (dubbed a Magmarizer) that activates during a trade, it will evolve into Magmortar.

Since the Canon!Dex states that Magmortar lives in volcanic craters, I'd write that Magmortar do exist in the wild, but aren't often encountered due to the dangers of going that deep inside an active volcano.

Buneary Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Buneary [#427]
  • Lopunny [#428]
  • Mega Lopunny [#428-M]

Physical Description

Buneary are small, bipedual pokemon covered in a combination of soft brown down and fluffy tan fur. Their arms and legs are short but powerful, with the legs especially granting them a high ground speed; both sets of limbs end in broad three-digit paws that give them excellent traction. Aside from a small round tail, the lower body is entirely covered in fluff. The head is almost spherical, with a triangular pink nose set in the center and connected to a mouth that seems to be constantly smiling; beady black eyes are set some distance to either side of the nose, with a dot of tan fluff just above each one serving as eyebrows. Two long paddle-like ears are connected to the top of the head, each with pink inner surfaces and capped with a ball of fluff; one ear is always curled, traditionally the left one, although there is some matter of personal preference and Buneary will curl both ears up if they feel especially threatened.

Lopuny are three times as tall as their pre-evolution, with ears just as long as they are tall; the ears bend roughly a third of the way up, each drooping to the side of the pokemon's body and their lower half covered entirely in well groomed fluff. The Lopunny has developed a small muzzle, giving its head an egg-like shape; the eyes are now larger with visible red irises, and the dots of fluff have grown into long, fluffy eyebrows that extend some ways behind the face. A thin neck leads into a tear-drop shaped body, with the muscular upper limbs jutting out from under it; the forward paws have developed into three-fingered hands, surrounded by tan fluff. The lower body is now entirely exposed, revealing powerful thighs which lead to knee-high "boots" of fluff. The lower paws have not grown at all, resulting in very tiny feet. Unlike their pre-evolution, they will shed their fur at the beginning of autumn and the end of winter; their winter coat is much more fluffy and dense then their summer coat.

Recently, stones from the otherwise ordinary collection of a new tenant in the recently developed Mauville Hills made the news when it was discovered to cause mega evolution in Lopunny. The new form is a full head taller than the old one, and their fluff is much less soft. The ears have grown as well, though instead of being covered in fluff the post-bend portions are divided into thirds by tiny rings of the tan fur. The eyebrows merge into one shape at the center of the forehead, resembling the outline of Beautifly. The fluff around the hands and feet are now much more clearly defined, the feet especially being larger and with fluff only extending to the ankle. Most notably, though, the mega evolution develops a thin black skin of umbrate around their legs; while this "pantyhose" does start out as completely solid, the Lopunny quickly tears portions away to cover their clawed fingers with, resulting in most images of the form having tears around the thighs.

There is a rare mutation which causes both the tan fur and brown down to be slightly transparent; this results in the Buneary's pinkish skin being more visible, with the fluff being incredibly pink. The mutation remains after evolution, and pink Buneary/Lopunny are sought out by collectors.

Notable Biology

Both Buneary and Lopunny have surprisingly powerful muscles underneath their fur. Buneary's ears are, in fact, capable of unfurling with enough force to break small boulders, and this strength only increases when they evolve. In addition to their sheer muscular prowess, the fluff can absorb sunlight; while most wild Buneary simply nestle into their fur at night, a properly trained specimen can utilize this ability to manipulate the weather and unleash powerful beams at opponents. All members of this line do have small amounts of Umbrite in their bodies: both Buneary and normal Lopunny can be trained to access it, though only the Mega evolved Lopunny uses it naturally. Mega evolved Lopunny are also far more aggressive than their normal form, which leads to enough martial prowess that they are considered to have the Fighting type atop their Normal type.

Despite all this, almost half of the Buneary line is uncoordinated, to the point where they can't use held items in combat. The remaining Buneary are constantly alert, reading any pokemon who attack them to find openings for a strategic retreat; while they lose the speed to run from a fight when they become Lopunny, their psychological examinations allow them to easily manipulate opponents into becoming infatuated with them. There does exist a rare third breed with much better physical coordination; this particular breed appears to be impossible to paralyze. Mega evolved Lopunny, due to the slightly different musculature, do not have any of these abilities; however, the umbrite on their claws and legs let them attack Ghost type pokemon with moves they are normally immune to.

Social Structure

Despite the appearance of the smile on their face, Buneary in the wild are naturally very much paranoid and untrusting of unfamiliar faces. Typically they form small groups known as husks, with newborns being introduced to each member of the husk to gain their trust. These groups will search for food together and create small nests in the grass to rest for the night, but whenever they are attacked they all try to flee without giving thought to helping their family. Husks that encounter other Buneary will be wary, but attempt to cautiously integrate into each other while trying to make sure the other group isn't actually some sort of Ghost-type prank. If a group of Buneary is reduced to one member, that member will generally rush out and try to attract predators to consume it.

The evolution to Lopunny is triggered by a level of comfort and joy that the paranoid Buneary rarely achieve in the wild, which means that their are very few studies on how they interact with their pre-evolution. The colony in Castelia park, however, has led to some level of insight into what such behavior might consist of; Lopunny tend to be very loyal to the group they're part of, taking a lookout position and deliberately drawing attention to themselves if they see what seems to be a predator. This does match up with the behaviors of captured Buneary who evolve; see Hazards, below.

Habitat

Buneary are native to the Eterna Forest of Sinnoh, and are part of a very intriguing food chain arrangement. The top predators of the forest are Murkrow and Misdreavus, both of whom coordinate to not only ensure that Buneary do not develop into large groups but also that they remain in a state of constant trauma, preventing them from evolving. While the exact reasoning behind this is unclear, the existence of Mega Lopunny—and its very dangerous combination of types and ability to Ghost-Type pokemon—has led some researchers to believe that the Misdreavus are performing these actions out of a racial memory of their old foes.

Attempts to introduce Buneary to other regions have had mixed results. In Kanto, a lack of native predators has caused the population to explode and regular swarms still cross route 25. However, both Hoenn and Unova have avoided this result thanks to limiting the Buneary to carefully watched safari zones and the Castelia city park, respectively.

Diet

The Buneary line is mostly herbivorous, but their musculature means that they require some meat-based proteins in their diet. In the wild, this is usually obtained by consuming bug-type pokemon alongside the grasses and berries Buneary eat; due to the lack of bug type pokemon in Castelia city park, the Buneary in the region have become dependent on park-goers giving them small pellets from provided dispensers. The usual pokemon food sold in pokemarts are enough for Buneary and Lopunny, though the latter will need more of it overall.

Hazards

Buneary are incredibly distrusting of strangers, due to the constant and traumatizing harassment of ghost-type pokemon in Eterna forest. This, in combination with their innate strength, makes the cute bundle a dangerous and easily triggered time bomb; captured Buneary are only docile due to their despair at being separated from their husk, and aggravating them can lead to serious injury. Trainers should be gentle and caring toward the Buneary for some time after the capture; ensuring the pokemon trusts the rest of the team as well as their new owner is essential, and should be achieved before taking them out on a battle. It is very heavily suggested that one avoids putting them in the same team as a ghost-type before they evolve, and above all do not try to fiddle with their ears.

Lopunny are usually much more friendly and confident, due to evolving when they are in a happy situation and, therefore, having already built up some trust in their team. This does not make them any less dangerous; in fact, their newfound loyalty and increased power might make them more eager to protect their team from any perceived threats, although they rarely start fights deliberately. However, Mega Lopunny are much more aggressive and will tend to exercise their new combat abilities as much as possible, even seeking out ghost types to torment. Both forms have very delicate ears and only allow others to touch them under very specific circumstances.

Courting

Sex is as much a part of a Buneary's life as being constantly hunted and tormented by predators. In point of fact, after a husk of Buneary manage to escape from some group of predators, they will engage in intercourse as a form of panic relief. While they do not discern based on age or gender, this does inevitably result in numerous births. Usually a single mother will have around six children, and all newborns will be passed around the group to be accepted by them. Young Buneary learn about eating, forming nests, and running from predators by observing their family; in roughly a year's time, about half of them will be sexually mature adults, with the other half being dead.

While Lopunny do have the same instincts, their increased confidence and loyalty means that they will usually only seek out members of a family they have grown to enjoy. In wild populations this does mean they limit themselves to those they have known since birth; however, tame Lopunny have the somewhat embarrassing tendency to throw themselves at compatible members of their team after a battle, including their trainer at times. They can be taught not to do this, or at the very least to leave their trainers out of it, but Mega-evolved Lopunny will all but insist on some form of satisfaction and will become very mopey if they aren't allowed to engage before their mega-evolution wears off.

In Human Society

Buneary have a surprisingly mixed representation in the popular culture of Sinnoh. While their adorable nature has led to the creation of Buneary dolls, people were well aware of their detached and slightly volatile personalities. This, in combination with their home in Eterna Forest, led to a number of stories where they were considered either creepy or tragic; one notable story documented their life with disturbing accuracy. Overall, though, most Buneary are considered adorable and just require a gentle touch; there is a small society that gives traumatized children Buneary in order for them to develop a bond and heal together, or Buneary dolls if they're not allowed to have pets.

The Lopunny, on the other hand, is usually considered a friendly sort of pokemon, often taking the role of comforting sister figure in stories that are aimed at young children. However, their sexual tendencies—combined with the somewhat attractive form of their lower bodies—have led older audiences to see them as minor sex symbols. Trainers with a Lopunny can expect to be teased to varying amounts about their "relationship," which is only increased if the Lopunny can mega-evolve (due to both their new appearance and the understood requirements of mega evolution). In fact, a company that specializes in adult material uses the Lopunny as the basis for their own unique outfit. However, a recent work of fiction has a Lopunny mega evolve for the purpose of fighting evil ghost-type pokemon, and there is an increasing trend towards seeing the Lopunny as heroic, feminine warriors.

Here's Cianwood.

Cianwood City

History

Cianwood is a fairly young town, with only a history of 200 years. It was originally a site of a pirate crew, which was mapped out when they were captured. Just before the Emperor moved from Ecruteak, he ordered a group to settle the area to expand Johto. It slowly expanded into a small town that became a prosperous spot for martial artists.

Geography

Found on a small island southwest of mainland Johto, Cianwood is the most isolated part of the region. Is it built on the beach, with a small grass patch to the north. There is a barrier reef along the northern coast that keeps that area safer for swimmers. It was formerly surrounded by a small mountain range. A recent change was a man-made cave made by Baoba **** when he relocated the Safari Zone. This connects to the natural route to the west that was only accessible to mountain climbers.

Industry

There are three industries in this city – medicine, tourism, and tournaments.

Cianwood is considered the medical capital of Johto, although Kanto and Sinnoh gets a lot of their medicine products from Cianwood. The mountains around the city hold many medicinal herbs that are very potent. In the city is a fairly prosperous Pharmacy that does both human and Pokemon based medicine. Their ‘Secret’ Potion is seemingly a cure-all for Pokemon – it has been shown to cure an Ampharos of a debilitating disease, and when used in an aerosol form, cured an entire flock of Psyduck of their headaches.

Tourism is a somewhat new industry to Cianwood, due to its location in the back of the region. However, with the relocation of the Safari Zone from Fuchsia to the west of Cianwood, there is now more movement through the city. As such, hostels have popped up in the more barren north side of town. Most of these are small establishments for one night use, and are kept fairly clean.

The third industry is tournaments, often held by Chuck **** in his gym. These are often Pokemon tournaments that are unaffiliated with the League. However, there are human martial arts that he hosts. These may take place either in the gym, or when weather permits, in the open spaces in the north parts of town. These are part of the Official Martial Arts Association, and thus garner a lot of attention.

Points of Interest

Cianwood Gym

A League-sanctioned gym run by Chuck **** which specializes in Fighting-types. It has had two puzzles in the past – one Strength, and one Waterfall. The Strength puzzles was simple – push two boulders on the side up, and the middle to the side. This puzzle is no longer used. The Waterfall puzzles only runs part-time, as it controls Chuck’s waterfall generator, which he may have off at the time. It requires you climbing up the top of his gym to the generator – Turning them off will allow Chuck to focus on you for battle, as the waterfall no longer is falling on him. He gives the Storm Badge, which allows the trainer to legally use Fly.

Cianwood Pharmacy

A small pharmacy that uses the local medical herbs. It’s ‘Secret Potion’ is a potent medicine that is well-known. It also has regular potions and medicines at regular price. When it has a new shipment of herbs, it will sell the older stock occasionally.

Tips for Trainers

The tournaments in this area are worth joining. While a majority will not help with your League journey, but they will help with your Pokémon’s experience. These are good ways to increase the bond between you and your Fighting Pokémon, specifically.

Native Pokémon

The Pokemon in Cianwood are found almost entirely in water, although a few are found in rocks when noted.

In Popular Culture

While not shown explicitly by name, there are many fighting games that use both the gym and the grassy fighting field as stages. Alongside that, numerous fighting anime and manga have used the area for tournament settings.

Connecting Routes

Route 41

The water route surrounding the Whirl Islands. Over the last 150 years, people have claimed to see Lugia occasionally roost on these islands. A fair chunk of these sightings are unconfirmed, however. The Whirl Islands are blocked off by Whirlpools, giving them their name. Trainer’s Note  Pokemon:

Route 47 and Cliff Edge Gate

Cliff Edge Gate has a desk with a receptionist and a giant billboard for the Safari Zone. There is a rocky patch down the wall to the lake, which holds many Pokemon. Pokemon:

Route 47 is a mixture of natural route and man-made paths. This is part of the path to the Safari Zone in Johto. With Rock Climb and Waterfall, you can navigate the cliffs and caves to explore the entire route, and even find the Embedded Tower, rumored to be a rest stop for the Weather Trio of Hoenn.

The new Corocoro leaks are certainly going to make the Zygarde article interesting when it gets done. As will whatever is going on with Greninja. Perfect Cell... er Zygarde will be interesting in game too since the article states its much stronger than Xerneas and Yveltal and the fact that normal Zygarde being its 50% form would imply Perfect Zygarde's BST would be 1200. There s no way that wont be a casr of Story and Gameplay Segregation.

15/09- Never mind seems the %'s don't refer to power but the number of Zygarde cells in the area a Zygarde core has absorbed in order to form a body.

Hey, guys! I'm new! smile

...

...Anyways, I feel like we should use the Egg Groups and Body Types and such as a basis for a Pokemon Taxonomy. Would that be cool? I think that would be cool.

Also, if I have no idea what I'm doing or am doing something stupid and/or wrong, tell me.

Fun Fact: I came up with the "Unlurking Sentinel" name because I was intending to stop being a Lurker. I don't think it worked.

Would I be allowed to take the dibs for Bergmite?

Well, I was never given an official go-ahead, but I wrote up an entry for Bergmite anyway. Also parts of it were written at 2 in the morning and as such may not be up to snuff.

Bergmite Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Bergmite [#712]
  • Avalugg [#713]

Physical Description

The initial morph, Bergmite, is a small quadrupedal creature with a disc-shaped body and four conical legs. The upper half of its body is coated in Regicite, and extends beyond the actual body of the Bergmite. It has a pair of yellow eyes on the front of its body, with the eyes slightly recessed into purple divots. A line connects the eyes together, but it is unknown what the purpose of the line is. It is encased inside the Regicite coating and does not move, making it unlikely that it is the creature’s mouth. The morph has three horns: a large “iceberg” horn spiking up from its back, a forward-pointing horn sticking out of the “iceberg”, and a small, tail-like horn pointing out of its rear. Some Bergmite are born with a mutation that turns their body a pale yellow, lightens their eyes to the same shade, and colours the recesses around the eyes a pale green.

The evolution, Avalugg, is noteworthy for completely doubling in size, which scientists argue could be an even bigger difference from Bergmite if one does not take the extra size provided by the ice coating into account. Avalugg is coated in Regicite like its initial form; however rather than morphing the ice into a pointed shape on top of its body, the ice is formed into a large flat kite-shaped sheet over the creature’s entire body. Large cracks can be seen through the sheet, which allows the Avalugg more freedom of movement. There is a single large white diamond-shaped “ear” on either side of Avalugg’s head. Three icicles hang from its jaw like a beard. The bottom of the body and the sides of the flat sheet are highly jagged, and can be quite sharp. A quadruped like its former morph, the legs are far more developed than they were previously. The legs are thick cylinders and have joints that resemble the cracks in its back. The legs end in round feet with spikes on each toe, used for gaining solid footing in icy climates. Individuals that evolve from Bergmite with the colour mutation retain the same colour differences from normal Avalugg, with the creature’s eyes and “ears” turning yellow and the cracks on its body turning from purple to pale green. However, the colour of the Regicite coating is unchanged.

Notable Biology

The most immediately noticeable thing about Bergmite and Avalugg are the incredibly thick coatings of Regicite that cover their entire bodies, save for the lower body and legs of the initial morph. Both morphs are known to be able to create the Regicite at will, and can seal up the tiniest cracks in their coatings in seconds. What the creatures look like underneath the coating is unknown, with the ice being incredibly hard to chip or melt away, and any damage done to a conscious morph’s coating is immediately fixed by the creature. Scientific estimations of Bergmite say that it has either a completely flat back, like its evolution, or a large spike pointing up from its back, and it is this spike that the Regicite uses to form the “iceberg”. Avalugg is thought to somewhat resemble a Beartic on all fours underneath the ice armour. Despite both members of the line weighing an immense amount, the Regicite on their bodies makes them buoyant, and it is not an uncommon sight in polar climes to see a group of Avalugg migrating by swimming while carrying Bergmite on their backs. Both morphs can learn the HM Surf, and therefore can be used for ferrying their Trainers across water, but this is heavily advised against due to how quickly a Trainer can get frostbite from contact with Bergmite. The internal organs of Bergmite resemble that of Snorunt in their placing and simplicity, which led to the theory that Snorunt and Bergmite evolved from the same ancestor Pokemon. Bergmite have no observed mouths, and in fact do not seem to need food. In studies, when offered food, Bergmite usually either froze the food solid, then absorbed the ice, or ignored the food entirely. Upon evolution to Avalugg, however, the systems become much more advanced than before, and Avalugg now requires food to survive. They also have a simple circulatory system, used to pump ice water through the body. It is thought that this is a recent development that helps keep the pokemon cool in warmer climates, which they are typically taken to by Trainers.

Both Bergmite and Avalugg have the ability to expel cold air from any point on their bodies, which is used to create their Regicite coatings. In addition, Avalugg have cryo sacs inside their mouths, which can be used to fire icy beams. These cryo sacs seem to be underdeveloped, however, and as such are far weaker than others of the type. It is thought these are primarily supposed to be used for mating rituals.

Like most pokemon, there are three different varieties of Bergmite/Avalugg. The first variety has a keener hunting instinct, though considering how Bergmite are not a predatory species the origin of the ability is unknown. Trainer’s Note  In any case, this heightened instinct allows the pokemon to become more focused on its enemy, and any attempts to confuse it fail. The second variety can somehow integrate falling hail into its own Regicite coating, allowing minor cracks and wounds to be sealed without diverting the Pokemon’s attention away from its current task. The third type, the rarest, produces much denser Regicite than others of its kind, allowing it to hold on when an attack might otherwise defeat it.

Bergmite are known to live for approximately forty years, evolving into Avalugg somewhere around the twenty year mark.

Habitat

So far, Bergmite are known to occupy only one area that is close to permanent human settlements; the Frost Cavern in Kalos. Most Bergmite clans live high on mountains above the snow line, but at a distance from human settlements and at a height that not many outside dedicated mountain climbers would dare venture to. However, they are also a common sight in the polar extremes. An effort was made to introduce the species to Mt. Coronet in Sinnoh, but the species floundered and was removed from the site to prevent their deaths.

Bergmite are known pests among arctic researchers and Frost Cavern hikers, though for different reasons. For hikers, a spot that looks safe to step on may in fact be the back of an Avalugg covered in snow. For researchers, many scientists have stories of being woken up in the middle of the night to an unnatural coldness in their settlement after an Avalugg broke in to establish dominance over its territory. It is also not uncommon to hear stories of how the first to discover the Avalugg in the settlement did so by having a bone broken in the Avalugg’s jaws. Researchers are advised to keep Pokemon with potent fire breath (such as Charmeleon) on hand when in known Avalugg territory.

Diet

As Bergmite, it is unknown whether these Pokemon need sustenance at all, due to their very simple systems and rejection of food. The general consensus among Bergmite Trainers is that they can eat, but choose not to. Surprisingly, if the food contains high enough sugar quantities, Bergmite are often more likely to be interested in it.

Avalugg, on the other hand, are omnivorous, in the sense that they eat both meat and minerals. The minerals found in snow and ice are typically what they eat, but they have been known to kill and eat Pokemon that wander into their territory. This is thought to be a last resort during times when mineral-rich ice is short, as usually they merely freeze enemies and either flee or shatter them with their immenseness.

Reports of Avalugg that hunt down and eat humans are unfounded and usually myths perpetuated by scientists who’ve had a run-in with a territory-defending Avalugg.

Hazards

The most immediate danger concerning Bergmite is the ice that coats them, as contact with the ice for too long can cause terrible frostbite. The ice temperature can reach as low as -150 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning contact with the ice for longer than a few seconds is incredibly dangerous. A common rite of initiation in north-eastern Kalos is to lick a Bergmite, but after many hospital cases of frostbitten tongues (including many that were unsaveable or fell off before arriving at the hospital at all), this was made illegal. However, training of the pokemon themselves is not illegal. This is most likely due to their relative rarity and the Kalos Gym Leader Wulfric using an Avalugg. Anyone with a Bergmite or thinking of catching one should stock up on Ice Heals and Aspear berries immediately. However, do not use an Ice Heal on a Bergmite, as it WILL eat through the Regicite rather quickly, leaving the pokemon frightened and desperately struggling to refresh its coating as quickly as the Ice Heal can melt it away. Aspear berries also wreak havoc on a Bergmite’s simple systems, and will kill the creature within minutes. Avalugg do not die from eating Aspear berries, but they are put in severe discomfort and are rendered temporarily unable to produce Regicite at all. Keep Aspear berries and Ice Heals away from Bergmite at all times. Trainer’s Note  Heavy winter gear is strongly recommended for caring for a Bergmite or Avalugg, and if needed as a water ferry, specialized saddles are available for purchase. Riding an Avalugg without a saddle is strongly disadvised.

The second most obvious hazard about Bergmite is their weight. The pokemon weigh a surprising amount considering their size, and Avalugg weigh a literal ton at the least. One recorded Avalugg, “Big Ol’ Percy,” was eight feet tall and came close to two tons. His Trainer, Bertram S. Petrikov, recommended never letting an Avalugg come indoors, and instead constructing a large barn-like facility they can take shelter in, reminiscent of their native caves. As well, if the creature tries to show affection by “hugging” you, you must firmly engrain it in the creature’s mind that “hugging” is not a good way of displaying affection. In essence, take caution when dealing with an Avalugg. Bergmite are lighter, but should be treated with no less caution, as they weigh approximately 200 pounds each and can do major damage to a human’s bones with weight alone.

As was mentioned above regarding arctic researchers, Avalugg have powerful jaws and access to the Crunch and Ice Fang moves, and can break bones with one bite. Exercise extreme caution around Avalugg jaws. If you or one of your pokemon are bitten by an Avalugg, seek medical help immediately.

Courting and Childrearing

Bergmite usually do not breed in the wild, but may breed in captivity. Why and how are unknown, but the offspring are always genetic duplicates of their parents, making stagnation of the species a definite possibility without Avalugg to provide true Bergmite offspring.

In the wild, male Avalugg compete for a female by creating intricate and elaborate ice sculptures with their cryo sacs. Whichever male creates the sculpture the female deems the best, she will mate with. Approximately 3-5 weeks later, she will lay a cluster of ice-cold eggs (typically 2-8). The male will stand guard over the eggs at all times, being brought food by the female, to make sure the eggs are not harmed by the Avalugg who were not chosen for mating. When the Bergmite are born, their eggs first expel a massive cloud of water vapour, which is then immediately and instinctively used by the newly hatched Bergmite to create their ice armour. It is because of this obscuring water cloud that researchers have not seen what Bergmite look like under their armour.

The female raises the Bergmite mostly by herself for the first few years, protecting them from threats and teaching them how to avoid danger. Afterwards, the Bergmite are merely considered part of the clan, and mingle in and amongst the other young Bergmite and older Avalugg.

Social Structure

Clans are led by an older patriarch/matriarch, depending on who succeeds the previous elder. The elder determines where the clan moves to find mineral-rich ice and avoid dangers such as avalanches, and settles disputes between clans. When an elder feels they are on the verge of death, they appoint a new clan leader, and leave by themselves to die amidst the snow. So far no Avalugg remains have been found, although indigenous people who live near Avalugg-claimed mountains say there is a secret “Avalugg graveyard” where all Avalugg instinctively go to die. An Avalugg may challenge the leader’s rule, but this happens surprisingly little in mountainous clans. The mountainous clans tend to be more docile, while the arctic clans tend more towards a violent approach (See above re: arctic researchers). Avalugg are typically given one of two jobs: transport for the Bergmite, or protection for the clan. Transporters are seen as highly important, carrying the future of their species on their backs, while Protectors are seen as the sturdiest and strongest of the clan. Trainer’s Note

When two clans meet, they may attack each other, deeming one another a threat to their territory and/or lives. However, this decision is ultimately the elder’s, and some elders have been known to settle down and negotiate instead of immediately attack. Fights between Avalugg can go on for hours due to neither party having any kind of advantage; Avalugg learns no moves that are effective against its own type, and the immense defenses on the creatures mean leaving lasting wounds is difficult. Many Avalugg duels end in the creatures declaring a truce out of exhaustion. Due to their isolated nature, most mountainous clans are very wary of any new life they encounter. Many Avalugg go their entire lives without ever seeing another kind of creature.

In Human Culture

Bergmite and Avalugg are typically seen as one of two things: the epitome of cold, or incredibly sturdy defenders. As such they are popular emblems and mascots for companies making things such as freezers or winter gear. One ice cream company uses a picture of a Bergmite on their ice cream tubs, dressed in various costumes to reflect the type of ice cream. They are in direct competition with a company that uses a picture of a Vanillite on their ice cream. The current leading refrigerator manufacturer uses a stylized emblem of a triangular Avalugg face as their logo, with the slogan “Rough Ice is Tough Ice.” Nobody knows what the slogan is supposed to mean, but it’s been around far too long for anyone to suggest changing it.

Approximately 100 years ago, a mass migration of Avalugg occurred by sea, traveling from the polar regions to the mainland. However, this was unknown to a cruise ship that had just set out on her maiden voyage. The ship was lauded as being “unsinkable”. Unfortunately the ship was unable to see the migrating Avalugg until it was too late, and crashed directly into them, their jagged bodies ripping holes in the side of the ship. The unsinkable ship sank, and many froze to death in the subarctic waters. Any Avalugg that tried to help merely made things worse with their freezing cold body temperatures. As there were no Avalugg on the mainland, it is unknown why so many were attempting to cross the ocean to get there, but the Avalugg returned to the polar regions and have not attempted a crossing since.

Bergmite depicted in media are often shown as the non-human sidekicks to a human protagonist, often acting like an excited Lillipup as opposed to the calm and deliberate natures they exhibit in real life. A recent documentary depicting what life is actually like for Avalugg living in the mountains came under fire for not showing the Bergmite as happy jumping balls of nerves. Recently a children’s cartoon aired starring an energetic young Bergmite with pink ice, and his struggle to take the place of his mother (Diancie) in a group of crystalline beings, alongside a Clamperl, a Sableye, and a Gigalith. Initially dismissed as a mere children’s cartoon designed to be nothing but mindless entertainment, the dismissals were silenced as the show revealed its well-developed characters, 3-dimensional morality, and excellent writing.

Yeah, sorry about that. I thought you were supposed to ask for dibs and get them approved, so I waited four days for a response. Then I figured nothing would happen unless I posted the article, so I just posted it. Next time I'll properly call dibs.

Actually, I did a rough "egg group" post a while back, but we agreed it should be a community collaborative post.

Did you ever consider fiction might be fact?
