I'd mentioned previously that if I did reference that game at all, it would only be as part of a "In Popular Culture" section.

[up] Aww, not a little more than that?

On the other hand: Sorry about the bump. I forget about the whole cyclical thing sometimes. tongue Regardless, I won't do it again.

Sorry I've been delayed with the second update of the Totodile revision writeup. There's been... drama (both on and off-line) I've had to sort out. It kinda drains my creative juices.
I'm sorry that there have been 3 apologies in the past 4 posts.

Anyway, no one answered my question from a while earlier. I'm not sure if it's because the question was so ridiculous/stupid that no one wanted to give it the dignity of answering or if it's because it's something that has already been discussed and no one wanted to bring it up again. But I would still like to know.

The Question: Are we going to address why pokemon can use dig everywhere? Other odd attacks that depend on certain factors also apply (eg trick room out in the open).

In the case of Dig I think we can chalk it up to GaSS. Anyway, since I no longer have any finals, I can continue work on my Tynamo article.

After getting up at 4:45 AM my time to watch the latest episode at 5, I have the following notes:

  • Judging from Landorus, (he's the only one who gets close to the puny humans) the Kami trio is pretty small for legendaries - only about 7 or so feet tall. (Then again, I'm not sure the size was consistent.)
  • Landorus is the only one who really seems to care much about people (to the point of checking to make sure Ash/Satoshi and co. got away safely before going after the other two), though that was already implied from its legends.
  • The other two will work together to take on Landorus...
  • ...But all three are capable of working together if Landorus convinces them, and they each have roles to play in helping with fertility.
  • The article will ignore that they can apparently be captured by Team Rocket energy cubes.

I should have Tornadus up soon.

(Off-topic: I was reading the comments on that Stanford article... somebody considers goons to be more "credible" than us. That's just sad.)

[up] 1. Game 'dex heights were too short for my tastes, and 2. I don't think embodiments of forces of nature could be captured by mere force field cubes.

Anybody got ideas for legends about Tornadus? (I'm going for a trollish trickster-deity angle.) Or would that be venturing to much into wild mass guess territory?

As I've stated before, 'dex "heights" is pretty much a contextless number. And I agree that forces of nature could not be caught by puny humans. I mean, even with our current tech or even with theorized alien techs, yeah, try to catch "fertility" or "time".

As for legends, we can take the basis from their inspirations. Someone more knowledgeable than me in that culture knows if the anime episode at least seems to match or follow such inspiration? What about their appearances in the manga, if they have done so?

[up] Thing is, I couldn't find much for Fujin on the Other Wiki... so yeah, someone more knowledgeable on the subject would be a big help. I'll work on the other sections in the meantime.

EDIT: Pastebin is up, for anyone who wants to help.

[up][up]The thing is, legends have been able to been screwed with by "mortal" implements since day one, in all continuity plans. Have the villain plans revolve around it.

[up][up][up]What about instances where catching a Legendary (not defeating, catching) is a plot point? Like HG/SS and B/W?
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!

[up]I'm pretty sure that whenever you catch a legendary, it's because they're letting you. They could bust outa that ball in an instant if they felt like it, but you're the chosen one, so they'll stick with you.

Or something like that.

Yeah. Besides, there is a difference between being caught by a puny human and being caught by a powerful organization who has the resources to throw who knows what at you. There's that one movie that shows Rayquaza under control of Team Rocket in a sort of open study module, and the scientists are just proding and wiring the thing as if it was a friendly neighbour's cat.

And no, I don't want to go into the Mary Sue Ranger enslaving Zapdos for a Fly Slave, that in the credits of another movie... Poor Copahue!

Going by just the films.

  • A clone of a super-psychic (with boosted stats) is held in check for a time with power limiters and psychological conditioning.
  • A creepy dude catches legendary birds with energy polygon things.
  • A mortal Charizard goes toe to toe with a divine construct of a legendary beast made by Runic Quantum Functions (sentient ones of course).
  • A Team Rocket dude can capture and mind control the Sprite of Time.
  • An Eon twin can be killed.
  • The Wish deity can be trapped in a machine and wish raped
  • And plenty more.

The games have:

The Deities of Land and Sea awakened by human-made artifacts

The three embodiments of sentience captured, have their control powers juiced from them, and made into a super chain, which is used to lock up further gods.

The living embodiments of Yin and Yang are captured (while the captures were consensual one of them was clearly being manipulated for evil without knowing.''

Not to mention all the spin-offs ad the like.

Seriously, you can't make such sweeping changes just because you don't like them, they're legendaries not Gods. (Most would count as nature spirits or supernaturally powered beings, even the divine ones have weaknesses).

Hell Darkrai got it's as kicked by a team full of regular pokemon.

I believe that in the case of Groudon and Kyogre the Red and Blue Orbs are implied in their item descriptions to have not been created by man.

OK, can we just agree that Legndaries are really frakking powerful and it takes extraordinary means or the legendary's consent to control them? Because I still need help with Tornadus, whereas this whole argument isn't really going anywhere.

[up] Thank you.

V3 of the paste is here, by the way. Also starting work on Thundurus, who I have more material for... I think.

Saw the pastebin, some details that perhaps I did not see before.

For one, actual mention of the trio:
Tornadus, like his two apparent relatives, FanonPokedex/{{Landorus}} and FanonPokedex/{{Thundurus}},

Also some parts could use the potholes to the adequate tropes, such as "only to “grant” the wishes in a twisted fashion" (Jerkass Genie, I think), "Tornadus is a master of the air" (Blow You Away) and " He’s also made a few appearances in a series of gory fighting games" (which game?).

There is a "indeterminable" somewhere that I'd subtitute for "indeterminate" or "indetermined" because those mons are just being introduced, probably most of what we know is not that it can't be known, but simply that we do not know.

Finally a question, considering their nature and inspiration — did the anime episode indicate whether they are capable of human(like) speech, or only "limited" to psychic voice, or anything?

[up] Thanks for the feedback.

1. I'll add that.

2. I was going to add the potholes later, but thanks for the reminder. Also, I was referring to Mortal Kombat.

3. Will do. It was talking about the "cloud of energy" around its lower body.

4. They just used regular Pokémon Speak, as far as I could tell.
