@Tracer: Don't worry, I always have a brick wall ready just for you ;)
Bottom line on my attitude against the series's Creator Provincialism
: The Pokéverse is obviously a big place, but it irks me that anytime we have to write about a city or culture we have to go "this is Japan but in a videogame
. Not only do I find it utterly stupid and unnecessary (Pokéarth is not Earth) but also largely racist. Even more now that G5 throws in a blatant stand in for the US.
] Pokédex, anime, manga, trading card game, heck perhaps even Pokémon Pinball or Trozei where we can. The point is, no matter how much canon we take, we don't stop there
. And yes, researching related animals, as well as mythological inspirations, helps a lot. For "inanimated" Pokémon, I guess stuff can be mostly made up so long as it is senseful to a Pokémon verse. Take a loot at the Bagon and Roggenrola article (perhaps the Lileep and Omanyte articles as well).
The wiki index is the official one, but there are articles that are still pending to be "wikified" which is part of the issue, I think. It's Tangent's responsibility to edit the opening post accordingly.
