I personally think that Interspecies Romance doesn't happen in the wild between Pokémon. I just think that breeeding is mainly something that is done artificially.

Here's my Zangoose rough draft. Seviper will come in a later post.

Zangoose

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Zangoose [#335]

Zangoose is a mammalian Pokémon with an average height of 4 ft 3 in (1.3 m) and an average weight of 88.8 lbs (40.3 kg). It has pointed catlike ears and pink eyes. It has primarily white fur, but with some red spots that appear to imitate bloodstains or scars. It is not uncommon for one to be found with actual bloodstains and scars. Its tail is covered in thick, white, long fur. Its most striking features are its hard, sharp claws, two on each front paw.

Notable Biology

Zangoose is noted for its species feud with Seviper. When in close proximity with Seviper, the scent of it will cause Zangoose’s hairs to stand on end and it will assume its bipedal position. When faced with a Seviper, Zangoose will dodge the Seviper’s attacks with incredible agility and slash with its sharp claws.

Zangoose is highly adapted to fighting Seviper. One of its most notable adaptations is its immunity to any toxins that it is attacked with. It is not only immune to Seviper’s poison; it is even immune to the poisons produced by other Pokémon like Zubat, Nidoran, and Skorupi. The compounds in Zangoose’s blood are produced to make Antidotes used to cure Pokémon of poisoning.

Habitat

Like Seviper, it primarily lives in grasslands in the vicinity of rocky cliffs or mountains with sparse trees and tall grass. These areas include Hoenn Route 114 and Sinnoh Route 208. They make their homes in cliffside burrows and marking it with a distinct, musky odor.

Diet

Zangoose is a carnivorous species. While it will eat any Seviper that it manages to kill, it will also hunt and eat other snakelike Pokémon like Ekans and Dunsparce. It will also feed on insects, crustaceans, lizards, birds, and rodents. These include Corphish, Nincada, Taillow, and Sandshrew. It will also eat Pokémon eggs.

Hazards

Wild Zangoose are quite territorial. When provoked, the slashes given by its razor-sharp claws can cause mortal injury. Keep away from burrows in cliffs emanating a strong, musky odor if not traveling with a strong enough Pokémon.

When captured, they are generally loyal to their trainers. Make sure to hold Pokémon battles away from places that are known to be Seviper habitats, as this can cause Zangoose to become distracted and eventually leave to hunt Seviper. It is unwise to have a Seviper and a Zangoose as allies in the same party, as they will immediately fight each other when given the chance.

Courting and Childrearing

Zangoose are sexually mature at four months. During mating season, male Zangoose release their distinctive musky odor in order to attract females. They also make a high-pitched noise known as “giggling” to get the female’s attention. Sometimes, two males will fight each other two mate with a female. The female will be pregnant for up to 49 days and will give birth to a litter of 2-5 individuals. Baby Zangoose are fed milk for up to two months and will leave at sexual maturity.

Social Structure

Zangoose is mainly solitary, but will sometimes share burrows with other Zangoose. Female Zangoose will live with their offspring until they leave.

It seems a little... Well... Sparse. Also, did you ever go back to expand your Feebas rough draft?

Also Interspecies breeeding happnes IRL, with far less pressure, it's unrealistic to assume it doesn't happen, espicially with monogendereds.

Nice article, clean up some redlinks.

@Tracer Bullet: Yeah, I know it's sparse. There wasn't a lot of info on mongooses that I could find, so I did the best that I could. I'll see what I can do on my Feebas article, even though I think there isn't much else I can put on it.

@Justice: I'm just putting those redlinks for future reference in case those get made.

I've only just started outlining for Stantler and Farfetch'd, but I notice nobody seems to have called Wooper and Quagsire...

So... We've been meaning to get some final input on the guidelines before putting them up...

Verismillitude

  • 1. Sweeping generalizations are not your friend. Not every human is a grouch, an irredeemable monster, or, for that matter, a saint. Neither is every (insert mon here). Leave room for exceptions.

  • 2. Keep your Pokémon's portrayal at least somewhat consistent with those in official media, whether you draw from the games, anime, mangas, TCG, etc. If a canonical element doesn't make sense (whether logical, common, or economic), try to ensure your revisions still dovetail with the rest of canon.

Style

  • *!* 3. There IS such a thing as TMI. Avoid gratuitous grimdarkness as well.

  • 4. Articles should provide a BASIS for telling stories, not exist AS stories. For example, while we do reference a few non-canonical incidents involving Entei and a Giratina from the HG/SS event, we leave the details of the former and the adventures of the latter to the imaginations of others.

  • 5. Clever integration of game quirks is good.

  • 6. Try to flesh out each section of the article. It's perfectly fine to request assistance in the thread.

Toes

  • *!* 7. Have fun. Respect the other contributors.

  • *!* 8. The thread is your friend, don't be afraid to ask for ideas.

  • 9. Don't blatantly contradict other articles. If a contradiction looks necessary, talk it over with the other poster and/or the thread, first.

  • 10. Let us know what you plan on writing in advance. (See Dibs) Especially in any case where an article impacts subjects of other articles, whether written yet or not.

  • 11. Keep criticism constructive and friendly. "I couldn't help but notice (insert x here), have you ever considered (insert y here)" =/= "(insert x here) is a horrible idea, you should use (insert y here) instead."

  • 12. Don't significantly modify another researcher's article without his/her foreknowledge. Fixing grammar is one thing, rewriting sections is quite another. However, if a researcher does not respond to inquiries on an article within a reasonable time, the article will become collaboratively managed by the thread.

Thoughts?

In other news, we also have a slow chat going on at the moment...

My guess regarding Marvel Scale is that it's a defensive response when the Pokemon is under stress, similar to Guts. Except instead of an offensive boost, it triggers a change in the scale structure, vastly increasing their hardness, thickness, shock absorption and the like. The reason it isn't active at all times is that it restricts movement, consumes extra energy, or something like that.

Starting on Stantler and Wooper->Quagsire.

Mostly going to base Stantler off of actual reindeer, but I'm still trying to figure out how it would hypnotize people.

That might actually work...

Also, how intelligent would a Wooper/Quagsire be? Their faces always seem to be all HURR DURR for me...

speaking of unaware, how does that ability work? How does being unaware of your opponents stat boosts negate them?
