The Pokédex - Extended Fanon Edition:

Ok, I'm gonna strike any mention of Joy from my Pokecenter article until I can think of something.
nine nine nine? nine nine nine?

I think it's reasonable enough to have a Nurse Joy exist; even a large family of them. Family traditions can be weird like that. Just, they hopefully aren't the only nurses.

A Crooked Mile
All Pokemon Centres in a given region are attended to by identical nurses. While maybe not saying "Nurse Joy" is a good thing, this should be pointed out at least.

That's just reused sprites. By that logic, all the old guys look like the same bald blue-shirted dudes and all the bug catchers wear stupid hats.

Ok, I changed it so "Nurse Joy" is more of a colloquial title, like the name "Mac" to anyone in the service industry.

but isn't the whole nurse joy/officer jenny thing also supported by the anime? and the Chansey article mentions the Joy family, so not mentioning it here would seem odd.

Well, it can be expected that whoever they are, Jennys and Joys are expected to follow a specific attire trend.

So, from the chat we're starting to think that actually writing down our ideals, and advice in general for writing articles, might be a good idea.

Not to say we're making a list of Da Rules. But hopefully a mission statement and some guidelines can clarify what we want out of this, helping the project stay coherent.

Obviously, community guidelines are best collected with everyone's input, so feel free to give your suggestions. The goal is to distill what we've been doing and aiming for, with enough guidelines to say what we're after, but not enough to drown in.

The chatlog on the subject will be posted soon.

Guess Who...?
NOTE: The following are my suggestions as taken from our beloved thread's chatroom. They are in their raw state, and as such, may or may not be phrased in a manner that is fully desired for the purposes of these guidelines.

1. Make sure that your Pokemon don't come off as being objectively good or bad. Remember that dangerous =/= kills Growlithe for sport.

2. If the games' (anime/whatever) canon makes sense, don't throw it out the window.

3. There IS such a thing as TMI.

4. Keep your Pokemons' portrayal at least SOMEWHAT consistent with those in official media.

5. Clever integration of game quirks is good.

6. Don't blatantly contradict other articles without said article's OP's foreknowledge.

7. The thread is your friend, don't be afraid to ask for ideas.

8. Let us know what you plan on writing in advance.

9. Keep criticism constructive and friendly "I couldn't help but notice (insert x here), have you ever considered (insert y here)" =/= "(insert x here) is a horrible idea, you should use (insert y here) instead."

10. Articles should provide a BASIS for telling stories, not exist AS stories.

11. Sweeping generalizations are NOT your friend. Not every person is a grouch, neither is every (insert mon here). Leave room for exceptions.

12. Don't significantly modify another Troper's article without his/her foreknowledge. Fixing grammar is one thing, rewriting sections is quite another.

13. Have fun.

Evening, fellow contributors. I'll leave here a link to the pastebin log for the aforementioned chat. Also, I will proceed to explain, in short, some of the chronology of the conversation so that people wanting to chime in don't get lost.

Conversation started with a discussion about Pidove habitat and cryo-sacs in the Cubchoo (arctic bear Pokémon) line, of which the beginning parts have been left out for convenience (a full log will be produced later). After some talk, shout outs and a vision of how different things, such as Power Rangers, are when you throw Pokémon into the mix, the conversation starts proper. The conversations begin with the recent discussion on whether to integrate a recent PMD roleplay into the Project's content. Opposition to the idea was held from two basis: the level of fanon (ie.: how its concepts are generated), and the out-of-universe perspective. It was agreed, however, that nods to the fanon can be made in a manner which ideally integrates into the articles without dictating their content (that's for Canon to do). At that point, it is suggested that a central document outlining our goals and guidelines is becoming more and more of a need.

Using some proposals for collaborative articles as a basis (Tepig and Tropius), the basis to establish guidelines are set by using the already available project page and the overall goal as a starting point. As such, guidelines mostly stem from indications that are already available at the project's page (such as "A dangerous world is not necessarily a hellhole").

A two-pronged approach will be thus taken: first to provide a mission statement and a set of general guidelines in order to allow for an easier management of contributions to the project; second to provide adequate documentation to make such contributions easier  *. From this point in the conversation, an initial set of guidelies is provided by the contributors in the chatroom, mostly Cpt. Napalm's initial set which he has posted above, and it is decided that the overall strategy will be made known to the other contributors in order to take their input to help sort things out.

I hope this initial strategy path flies well with most if not all the contributors to the project, and we all get to build better foundations that will further solidify this project.

Leaving for the moment, as I will be busy preparing an evaluation set for the mission statement and guidelines, as well as potentially opening a sandbox. I also regret to inform that my Latii and Minccino articles are on even more of an indefinite hold than they are already, although I of course hope this will last short.

Repeating the log link for completeness.

OK, so Gen V entries are good from Friday, its European release date?

And are we still doing biography entries for us, the researchers?

so, I'm thinking that the chansey article could use a little filing out. But I'm not quite sure what else to put, so yeah, asking for help.

Anyone have any idea as to why the Chansey line are such amazing special walls, from a biological perspective?

@Blissey: no idea, although I'm inclined to think that the Chansey line has a sort of crust or second skin (like eggs, perhaps?) that, while soft to the touch and not very hard, is very resilant to temperature changes and probably insulates somewhat their body from electricity. Alternatively, it might not that they don't take too much damage but they have a too high regenerative factor that takes advantage from foreign energy coursing their body. In other words, attacking them with fire, ice, etc... damages them but also makes them heal faster (raising the consumption ration of their internal energy sources perhaps).

I'd check the TCG section of Blissey cards, since most if not all of them seem to have automatically-triggered healing effects (although I'm not sure if they apply to the Pokémon or to benched allies).

[up][up]Perhaps they just have a naturally high healing factor combined with insulating fur? Hmm. I will have to think on this further...

In my article I simply had them have extremely high constitutions, combined with lots of natural painkillers in their bodies.

[up]@Haseri: I guess they can start Friday, yeah.

Articles on the researchers... we'll have to nail down the dex's in-universe perspective a bit, first.

@ Tangent:

I just realized that I left up some very sensitive info from my computer on my first log that I submitted. When you see this, would you kindly nuke the first submission of my log if at all possible?

EDIT: Make that the first AND second submissions. I did not grasp what was meant by "editing" pastes...

T_T i wish I would have participated in this when I had the chance...

Is there a chance there can be doubledex entries? Kind of like from game to game each one has a different dex entry?
If the amount of rape that is acceptable to you is not zero, and you are not Pyramid Head, you need to seriously rethink your life.

I can do Heatran or Scyther/Scizor.

Is anyone doing those?
