Now that we have the Major Arcana almost done, would it be asking too much to get a little help on the Minor Arcana? Anyone?

Bump. I don't want this to fall off everyone's radar.

A friend of mine sent me this admirably concise description of the Court Cards in the Major Arcana:

For a start, as I understand: all the Pages are young people of either gender (i.e. adolescent or younger), all the Knights are young men coming into the primes of their lives (i.e. seventeen or so up to around twenty-six or twenty-seven), all the Queens are mature adult women (i.e. twenty-five or so up to menopause), and all the Kings are mature men (i.e. thirties and older, often considerably older), with the caveat that a lot of that is about bearing, so someone young at heart is more Page-ish, while the more mature someone is the more they tilt towards the Queens and Kings.

Page of Wands: Talkative, enthusiastic, impulsive, difficult to ignore. The incarnation of youthful energy.

Page of Cups: (androgynous: if a girl a bit tomboyish; if a boy a bit feminine), rather gentle, caring, possibly a bit far-away and out there, and probably on the insecure side.

Page of Swords: A perceptive and eloquent youth, quick-witted, difficult to fool, eager to learn, and good at taking advantage of opportunities or turning crises into advantages.

Page of Pentacles: Quiet, conscientious, industrious, probably optimistic, probably introverted; basically the incarnation of a diligent student or apprentice.

Knight of Wands: Vigorous and active, probably a traveler, with connotations of haste. Good-humored, and something of an explorer or adventurer. Maybe has a shorter attention span.

Knight of Cups: A dandy. To be more specific, a rather Bohemian card, someone making the most of life. Enthusiastic, passionate, and friendly. Maybe an artist. Usually rather empathetic and is good at understanding people.

Knight of Swords: Charming, perceptive, and possibly too courageous for his own good. Smart, but needs to be intellectually stimulated or becomes bored. Also inclined to eccentricity and independence; where the Knight of Cups is fashionable, the Knight of Swords doesn’t give a damn and wears what he likes, even if that means breaking conventions.

Knight of Pentacles: Cautious and discreet, rather conservative in tastes and expenditures. Analytical, a planner, and reliable. Probably reserved at first, but when he decides he wants to go somewhere, he gets there. Eventually. But there’s never any doubt that he’ll stick at it until he reaches his goal.

Queen of Wands: A strange combination of dignity and passion. Independent and lively, but also practical and a good organiser. From what I can tell she’s a good leader but not well-suited to serving or having a fixed role.

Queen of Cups: Something of a social butterfly; imaginative, honest, sweet, and easily makes friends, but is perhaps a bit fragile and can’t take criticism well. Very intuitive and aware.

Queen of Swords: A very intelligent woman, unflappable in a crisis, and approaches problems systematically and logically. Generally busy and with a certain grace.

Queen of Pentacles: Sensible and down-to-earth, and probably on the motherly side. Practical and good at organising, but also good-humored in a rather infectious way.

King of Wands: World-wise, successful, and gregarious. Perhaps on the old-fashioned side, but also tends to be warm and generous. A good advisor.

King of Cups: Sophisticated and rather gentle, with a lot of inner strength. Has probably been through trying times but came through them the better for it.

King of Swords: Very intelligent, very aware, experienced in his field, and worthy of trust and responsibility. Calm and collected, and dislikes disruptive outward displays of emotion.

King of Pentacles: A firm realist, and probably both married and well-off. Has a rather placid temperament and is slow to anger, if at all.

Really, once you get that Wands are passionate, Cups are caring, Swords are intelligent, and Pentacles are industrious, it’s all pretty obvious.

I've added a few of my own ideas to the OP and would like to get some feedback and possibly more suggestions.

Argh.

I had a whole bunch of these and then I closed out of the page and lost the post.

So now, four at a time, edited occasionally:

  • Page of Wands: So a character who talkslikethisallthetime? Disney has a billion of these; maybe Pinocchio?
  • Knight of Wands: Now I remember, I had the Mad Hatter here before.
  • Queen of Wands: Maybe Maleficant? Or even better, the Queen Of Hearts.
  • King of Wands: Yensid. Clearly Yensid; if not here then at King of Swords.

  • Page of Swords: Oh here's where I had Aladdin. So who was Knight of Wands? Oh wait, now I remember, one sec, lemme edit it.
  • Knight of Swords: Quasimodo; if not Knight than Page.
  • Queen of Swords: I think I had Nala from The Lion King here. Might have been someone else also.
  • King of Swords: I remember having troubles coming up with anyone specific here. I don't remember why. Maybe Mufasa here?

  • Page of Cups: Maybe Alice, from Alice in Wonderland?
  • Knight of Cups: Agree with Naveen.
  • Queen of Cups: Most of the princesses work here; who would be sufficiently mature, though?
  • King of Cups: The Sultan from Aladdin, maybe.

  • Page of Coins: Honestly, if Sorcerer Mickey wasn't the Magician he'd fit well here.
  • Knight of Coins: This sounds VERY villanous; Jafar or maybe Frollo.
  • Queen of Coins: I hate to say the only character I can think of for here is the teapot from Beauty and the Beast. Has to be a better character than that somewhere.
  • King of Coins: One of the many Reasonable Authority Figures. Maybe Mufasa, if he doesn't go at Swords.

^^ I'm pretty sure The Emperor is going to end up being whichever paternal/kingly character comes from a movie that hasn't been featured yet by the time we finish the rest of the Major Arcana.

Not enough people are interested, I guess.
Cheeky son of a....
Is it too much to say that [[Mulan The Emporor]] should be the Emporor?
:smug:
I think that Snow White would be a good fit for the Queen of Pentacles, due to her motherly nature towards the dwarfs.

Holy necro Batman!

But, uh, as long as this topic is back up, is this whole Disney tarot thing dead yet or just sleeping?

seriously guys, you depress me... all this talk of Genie!Jafar being the devil...Sigh...Where have we left Chernabog? And you DARE to call yourselves disney fans?Sheesh.

Even if we have only one franchise per major arcana or whatever, wouldn't it be perfect that the most "powerful" cards (the magitian and the devil) are two opposite forces from the same movie? I mean, mickey dreams about having power to create beautiful light on top of a mountain and shit...Chernabog IS the mountain, HAS powers, but uses them for his own twisted games/dances/tortures.

Plus, the both "lose" their powers with sunlight, if you look into it....
"When Gotham is in ashes... You have my permission to die."
You missed the "can't reference any work more than once per suit" rule, didn't you?

We can't do Chernobog because Sorcerer Mickey is already the Magician.

Ooh... this is awesome. I've got to think about this. My mom has done tarot since before I was born... hmmm.... I've got to think about this.

I am so into this project.

I would say that the World should be Alice, possibly standing on the pages of an open book or on the border between Wonderland and the real world... but then I thought of Fantasia 2000. The Firebird Suite. You know, the one with the nature fairy who brings life to the world and then inadvertently destroys it, but creates it again, more beautiful than before, and she's grown in wisdom too? She's The World. Gotta be.

I think that the entire Major Arcana is great — and the idea of only going with one film per card is great - but we'll be really limited if we stick to that in minor arcana.

That said, I suggest the Owl from The Fox and the Hound for the Queen of C... dangit, that's Tiana, through and through. Well, maybe the Queen of Cups.

Timon for the Knight of Wands? And the Nine of Coins, I think you gotta have Belle in the library, surrounded by books, reading, and as happy as can be. Then again, Two of Wands, you can't beat Belle singing "I want adventure in the great wide somewhere!" (That's how I read 2 of wands, anyway... having plenty, but wanting more.) Possibly Rapunzel in her tower would be even better. Seven of Coins, I recommend Hercules hard at work, training.

Three of Cups, perhaps Ariel, Sebastian, and Flounder? Long as we're on the subject, Tiana and her family's Gumbo Pot could make a great Ace of Wands. And that's all I've got to say for now.

I hate to necro, but I've been following this for a while, and I was just wondering how it turned out, if it turned out at all.

Sadly, I don't have any contributions, as I don't know much of the Tarot. Though I can honestly say that if there were a Disney themed Tarot deck, I'd get a hell of a lot more enthused over the idea!

How's it coming along?

It's basically on hold. One of the problems I'm running into is that Disney started making animated movies again, so I keep being confronted with new characters to work into my plans.

Hey, maybe Rapunzel should be The Sun!

edited 24th Mar '11 3:29:20 PM by Karalora

That sounds like a shoe in choice!

Don't forget the small characters too, like the horse and chameleon in the film too, as well as smaller characters in other movies.

The Obfuscator
If the Death has to be seen as neutral thing instead of a villain like Hades, how about Mufasa? Also, I'd think that Cruella de Vil's car would make a good Chariot. The Moon has such traits as Imagination, Confusion, Deception, Doubt and Fantasy. It also often features a road to dark unkown in its art. Cheshire Cat, maybe?

One of the problems I'm running into is that Disney started making animated movies again,

They stopped? Or just stopped making movies people still talk about?
