What interesting things have you only recently learned about?

To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.

Yeah, that dub is absolutely hilarious. Another good one is Those Who Hunt Elves. Which is, surprisingly, not hentai.

[up][up]It also had a Brazillian dub which appeared on late night tv.

I watched it as a very young kid sometimes. The main thing that I remember about it (Other than some disconnected images) is the ending.

Mara Wilson is bisexual as well. I'm not really surprised.

There's a Ned Flanders-themed metal band called Okilly Dokilly.

The 5 burroughs of New York are so different than the rest of the state, that there have been decades of officials trying to pass requests to separate them into the 51st state!

That sounds like it's been a rocky process.

Officials try to separate an area into a state for ANY reason, and pretty much none of them ever get passed. Texas for a long time has tried time and again to separate themselves into a COUNTRY because of how big the state is!

[up]That's more due to a surfeit of regional pride. And Confederate apologists.

Donald Trump just called for Russian intelligence services to try gaining access to Hillary's work emails during her tenure as Secretary of State.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot

Puerto Rico should become a state. Currently the people of Puerto Rico are at a massive disadvantage compared to the Americans of the 50 States.

As for New York splitting, I suppose the people of the "rest of the State" (or Upstate) have a point in that they're quite regularly ignored by the massive, centralised power of the big city. Still, I can't help thinking that there must be an easier way. If not, "Upstate" should get a name of its own - there's no way the city will be part of a State with a new name when there's also a State names New York. (Then again, Washington D.C. is roughly in that situation; but of course it's very different because it's the Capital.)

[up][up]Remind me how people think Trump is fit to be President again?

The 5 borroughs would be at one huge disadvantage if they were to separate: the capital is in Albany, which means an entirely new capital city and state government would need to be established! Most likely somewhere in the financial district.

... if it means people in NYC don't have to pay 3 separate taxes, I'm all for it.

Super Smash Bros. 4 has collectively outsold Brawl by a very narrow margin, being now the best-selling game in its series. The 3DS version sold 8.23 million units, while the Wii U version sold 4.90 million units, for a combined total of 13.13 million (Brawl sold 13.10 million).

[up][up][up]I know I'm being a Grammar/spelling Nazi here, but the word is "borough". (I get why you'd want to write it with two r's, though. Whenever I hear that word spoken I do notice that the r between the two o sounds sounds quite long - similar to "burrow" or "borrow".)

IIRC Puerto Rico has been debating whether or not it wants to be a state for decades. Wikipedia says that the pro-statehood side currently holds a slim majority.

I learned recently that not all decals are water-slide or vinyl. There's an old-fashioned kind called varnish transfer. Yet another weird tidbit from the piano industry: I'll be giving it a try once I get around to refinishing the fallboard on my junker.

The Playstation absolutely creamed the Nintendo 64 in terms of sales. I thought it was pretty even. There were a bunch of other surprises to me on this list too, including the DS being the second highest selling and how high the sales numbers are in general.

Based on the average Metascores & Rotten Tomatoes scores of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America: The First Avenger is the closest thing to an "average" MCU film.

To clarify, the average Metascore of a MCU film is 66; the average RT score is 81%. CA:TFA is the closest any MCU film comes to matching both numbers.

That makes sense. I've always thought it was the most average one.

Good, but not great and pretty typical of the MCU.

I thought it was considered one of the weakest one. Pretty average, but there are not many *bad* movies in the MCU.

Nah, that'd be something like Iron Man 2 or Thor: The Dark World.

Although, to be fair, people appreciate the movie more if they're familiar with 40s media and tropes.

[up][up] My dad thought it was better than Winter Soldier (he hasn't seen Civil War yet).

[up] Funny that you mention Thor: The Dark World. It's the farthest MCU film from the average.

[up] Farthest in distance from the average. Iron Man is the second-farthest (albeit in the opposite direction).
