Blues is stated in his backstory to be an anomaly though. IIRC, the damage to his power core somehow managed to break the thing that limited him to being dependent on human orders. That's why he rejected Light's offer to repair him, because he wants to stay independent even if it means he'll die young.
In the Classic series, humans (including Dr. Light, the supposed Big Good) are strongly implied to view robots as nothing more than tools, despite being people in their own way. Any robot that operates completely independent of humans is always framed as an aberration within this context.

Despite having been up and about for definitely years if not decades longer than the supposed Rebels? One has to wonder why Rock, Roll, and Rush weren't "Retired". And at least Rock is not a Legacy Character because Dr. Light himself said that he fought Robot Masters long ago.note You could even classify the Light faction as Obliviously Evil in that game, at least until the end, making that game Black And Grey in hindsight.
Also, we can presume that Light Bots are Three Laws-Compliant, but if Dr. Wily is the programmer, then all bets are off; aside from this one: "A robot must obey Dr. Wily." (Maybe the Third Law can remain with a caveat similar to the actual Third Law)
Ketchum's corollary to Clarke's Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced tactic is indistinguishable from blind luck.I've always found the idea that X was the first robot to think and act for himself somewhat of an Informed Attribute. The Classic series doesn't exactly do a great job of demonstrating this in my opinion, and in general I think the story of the games really drops the ball on this bit of worldbuilding for the most part.
IIRC the Megamix manga explained it was a new law and didn't apply to Rock, his siblings, or any R Ms before 9, and implied/stated it was instated in part because of Wily's shenanigans.
Light fought against it, but it passed, and Wily visited him in jail and blamed him for not doing anything to stop it. This board has a re-translation that you can see by clicking the 'Posted Images' buttons. http://s12.zetaboards.com/Junk_Guild/topic/5081872/1/
It's not canon to the games but it's likely the only backstory/thoughts behind such a law we'll get. I wonder if it applies to the 10/11 RM set too...hopefully they repealed it!
I like the Megamix/Gigamix manga and love the art but sometimes I feel it's too dark even though that's kind of its big selling point.

The Protomen enhanced my life. The problem is that 7 and X3 were released in the same year, as were 8 and X4; 6 and earlier had just bare bones Excuse Plots and barely any dialogue at all. So X was the first word on the subject, which was later Retconned.
Even discarding the comic, I would still think that Rock and Roll would have been able to deduce the Rebels' motive... Then again, their (in-game) response is as though the Rebels were defective... perhaps Irregular... even Maverick?
Mega Man, the First Maverick Hunter
Personally, I think that the Wily stages in 9 should have had the Boss Rush spread out like in 1... or, rather, like Maverick Hunter X. In the play-out below, Splash Woman and Galaxy Man were defeated Buster-only, and so were "recovered", but the others required special weapons and so were "destroyed":
Mega Man goes through the Tornado Blow section of Wily 1 when he reaches a gate. Behind it is...
TORNADO (in Creepy Monotone): I am Tornado Man. I have been programmed to destroy any intruders.
ROCK: Dr. Wily must have brought them back to life! Again!
TORNADO: I have been ordered to fight.
Meg Man defeats 1 more Master in the first stage and one early in the second stage. In the middle of the underwater portion of that stage, he finds...
SPLASH: I am Splash Woman. I have been programmed to destroy any intruders.
ROCK: But Splash Woman is back in the Lab...
ROCK: Oh, of course! Wily made backup copies of the robots like he always did. The fiend!
SPLASH: I have been ordered to fight.
Only Tornado Man and the first Robot Master you "Recovered" other than him would have those scenes.note
Ketchum's corollary to Clarke's Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced tactic is indistinguishable from blind luck.Speaking of Boss Rushes, remember how Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2 will have a special boss rush mode called "X Challenge"?
Apparently there's going to be a story mode in there.

Oh god photobucket. that site still works?
If we're discussing the folly of the worldbuilding between the Classic and X series, supplementary sources for the former added aspects to the Robot Masters that made them human in terms of thought patterns. Guts Man is into karaoke and Wind Man doesn't like herbal medicines.
By contrast, there's none of that in the X series for Repliroids/Reploids. What would say, Icy Penguigo/Chill Penguin and Signas have in terms of good points, bad points, likes, and dislikes?

Chill Penguin gets bored at his arctic posting. That's something
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIs that from supplementary material or is it something you made on the spot? If it's something made on the spot, then let me try:
Deep down, Signas is insecure about how his name is like 90% similar to Sigma's name.

Chill Penguin: Sigma has paid for the use of my power. Working for him is a million times better than piddling around on the South Pole with nothing to do.
From Maverick Hunter X. He apparently also hates Flame Mammoth's guts
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSo I just beat Mega Man 8 thru Legacy Collection 2.
Is there an opposite of Hype Backlash? Because I kept seeing so many people and reviewers be like "this is the worst/weakest main Classic Mega Man game on the second collection", and yet I had a pretty ballin' time with it. And for example, because I've also seen it brought up a lot, Frost Man's level with the "JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE" section was not that bad like some people made it out to be, tbh.

{double twitch}
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundI don't recall 8 being a bad game in its own right, it and 7 just got overshadowed by the X series in their day.
I'm morally opposed to any rail-type thing. The ride chaser, the snowboarding, the jetski segments.
I hate them all.
Forever liveblogging the Avengersnow, the ride chaser segments in X8 were abso-fucking-lutely terrible, no questions about that.
The snowboard section in Mega Man 8 was a piece of cake in comparison.
Its sad that less work was put into the zero series yet it had the deepest lore of any mega man game
They're all annoying anyway and to my mind against the run and gun and jump gameplay
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm not a big fan of the rail stuff either.
Also I wonder how deep the lore of the Zero games would have been if evil X hadn't been rewritten as evil clone
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI didn't mind jump jump slide slide but the boss you have to use the Mega Ball on was hard.
I also found 8 really hard even though people say it's really easy, especially the final Wily fight.
The Protomen enhanced my life.
Even as far back as Blues, the higher levels robots were shown moving outside of their intended roles and parameters.
