As much as Mad Max is a great example, the second picture is a more effective image.

The only thing that I can think of that would be as good as the Fallout pic is a screenshot from the end of almost any Incredible Hulk live action TV series episode.

Not only is the image painfully pixellated, but it just doesn't convey the wandering part of the trope at all. I just see some trainers and their pokemon walking opposite directions down a road. And we only see a very short section of the road. This conveys "wandering the earth" how?
I seem to remember the image for this trope used to be of a bearded man walking through a large wooded landscape, and I think it worked much better than the current one. But I can't find any other images in the page history, so maybe I'm thinking of a different trope?
