Why do Americans hate Lisa Simpson

It's because she is preachy in every episode revolving mostly around her, of which there are only a few per season. Otherwise she isn't a bad character.

So far three episodes of The Simpsons have aired this season, each one has had a Lisa-centric plot, and only one has featured her "preaching" to someone, and even then it was just her gently trying to convince a kid not to drop out of school.

^ I admit that I haven't seen many of the more recent episodes, so I didn't know if she had changed much from the episodes I saw. If she is less preachy in the later seasons then there really isn't a problem anymore, regarding her at least.

^^ its starting to look like this season is subverting the “Lisa is the poor soul who is always right, but surrounded by idiots” plots.

She tried to get Nelson back to school, but found that higher education isn’t necessarily for everyone.

When she coached Bart's baseball team she found she was sucking all fun out of what's supposed to be in a game.

They're also toning down jerkass Homer, and making him back into the lovable oafish family mangrin, rather than the uncaring narcissistsad.

I had some respect for her(or felt sorry) when her so called friend that loves her betrayed her not in a friendly or sorrow form, but in a venomous/bitter/sadistic/sarcastic tone. Sure, Eliza didn't save the slave, but you could have told her in private, or do it in a sad tone, not in a sarcastic/chastising form.

But, this season, in the Christmas episode, she pissed me off by using crime scene tape on THE FUCKING CHRISTMAS TREE on ecological and pagan grounds(calls Christmas pagan I think, and protests that they got a Christmas tree). Worst part, she is supposed to be a fucking Buddhist and tolerate other people's holidays and beliefs. Plus, it may not be bad for some people, but in the couch gag for the episode after the Christmas episode, it showed her putting a Christmas ornament on her mother's hair while they are happy. DIDN'T SHE PROTEST CHRISTMAS IN THE PREVIOUS EPISODE?

She used to be funny, now she is insufferable, a Soapbox Sadie, an annoying feminist, a worse liberal, and a hypocrite. I have no problems with feminists(as long as they get the backsides of it, like being required to sign up for the selective service/draft, and have the same punishments for crimes), or liberals, but Lisa is an exception.

Okay first,I didn't used to hate Lisa at least for a bit

When I first watched The Simpson of course I hated her, when you're only 8,the guy is always cooler because Girls Have Cooties.

As I got older, she was actually pretty cool being the Only Sane Man for a long time other than Ned. In fact until Al Jean took over again,Lisa was among my favorite characters [still not as cool as Bart or Maggie though] becuase she was the only one with any tolerance or values.

But then Al Jean pretty much turned Lisa into a Straw Feminist,Granola Girl who was more insufferable than Brian, but unlike the Brian-centric episodes of Family Guy,her episodes were flat out boring, draggy and Anvilicious. And when she isn't the center of attention she acts like a huge Jerkass comparable to Season 10/11 Homer I mean just look at "Million Dollar Abie", "Oh Brother,Where Bart Thou",or "On A Clear Day,I Can't See My Sister" and unlike Scully-era Homer, she neither learns her lesson or gets Laser-Guided Karma, she's a Karma Houdini. What's worse Critics and viewers call out Season 11 all the time but don't call out Season 17 for these episodes.

Ned Flanders may have been Flanderized to a Fundie, but at least he's still a genuinely kind guy with some moral compass and he usually gets called on it.Homer even when he was at his worst as a Jerkass was still well intentioned and never got away with it. While everyone has pretty much fallen since Season 8 [save Marge,Bart,Nelson, and Maggie] at least all of them either get Laser-Guided Karma or are hilarious.Lisa is just a Jerkass,Straw Feminist,Granola Girl,Soapbox Sadie,Karma Houdini

Seasons 21 and 22 have somewhat toned her down, but it's really just Al Jean making an Author's Saving Throw to hide the fact Lisa is his Author Avatar now.

And this is coming from a liberal troper

Thirded.

Patricia Acevedo was AWESOME as Lisa and brought the best in her. Alexia/Nanelly Solis SUCKS as Lisa and Brings out the worst in her.

I hate Lisa a Lot but she could display awesomeness from time to time in the early seasons:

You mean Yeardley Smith, who's won an Emmy for voicing her and has held multiple movie and television roles and also attends comic-con? Yeah, she totally sucks.

If Lisa doesn't appear preachy, then it's the whole episode that's preachy.

I haven't followed the show that well lately, but it seems for a while Lisa-centric episodes were teaching one opinionated aesop or another, with anyone opposed eing a strawman. Lisa was flanderized in accordance with the preachyness of previous episodes centered around her.

I just don't like what the writers had done with her at all recently. I wanted my Snark Knight that goes in way over her head, is wrong as many times as she is right and is exactly what she is at the end of the day: A child.

I loved Lisa in her early seasons, when she was a young girl trying to find her place in the world, feeling like something of an outcast. I particularly liked her episodes with Bleeding Gums Murphy, they just underline everything that was great about her character.

Eventually, this fell to the wayside; I liked it when she found her way as a vegetarian, that displayed a relatively strong sense of her character; but she just develops into a nerdy straw liberal, and in recent seasons, spends half her time "explaining" the premise of the episodes, or giving a voice to the creators. She no longer even feels like a person.

Lisa as a vegetarian makes an amount of sense, and I can relate to that. It could have helped to further ostrasize her, and it shows her as something of a "young liberal". As she becomes a Budhist and a vegetarian... what personality she had fell to the wayside.

I was unaware Lisa was so hated. I'm just apathetic toward her. She could be worse and become another Brian. I'm as leftist as it gets but I despise Brian.

I can't speak for others, but Lisa just comes off as really whiny and self important to me. Being politically aware and active is not the same thing as being smart(and as of late, it's been proven that Lisa isn't really that smart so much as she's a big fish in a small pond. When she was moved merely one grade up, she had problems keeping up with the work load). I would like her more if she, instead of trying to push her beliefs on others, just did her own thing. Associate more with people who share her interests, for instance.

[up]This.

And this is coming from someone who doesn't even watch this show anymore because of how low it's fallen, as well as how it pisses me off too much as an end result!

But I knew for a fact even if I could come back to it by some miracle, I still wouldn't be able to sympathize with, let alone agree with this annoying, pompous, goody-goody little prat.

And I can stand all the ripoffs spawned by this one character even less, so that should give you some leeway how I feel about smart-ass female characters in Western animation in general. Anyone who acts like thisgirl deserves to be ignored... Or bullied... Or alienated... For being like this and thinking that they're smart - when they're NOT!

To go on, IMHO characters like Lisa Simpson's example, are a high-ranking reason why females aren't taken seriously/given a chance to properly shine in Western (The less said about how they're mostly treated in most Anime - most of it being bad, the better) animation, if not most of IRL society!

Sorry - it's sad, but true.

Plus, her characterization pretty much means she's going to be a killjoy, which isn't going to win you many fans in a comedy series.
