Rename: One Up Sampo get usage counts

I always had a problem with One Up Sampo, because it's not named for something in a game. I'm fine with naming something for Norse Mythology, but not when it's not even an example.

Why not something Infinite Live Trick or Infinite 1-Ups, which is what a lot of the strategy guides call this? I mean, there should be plenty of trope namers that actually come from video games. Using an obscure item from even a classic story is not a helpful name.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Infinite 1-Ups can work. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, there are unlockable videos actually labelled "infinite lives", showing how skilled players can exploit the game mechanics farm extra lives.

Wait a sec ... farming is an established MMORPG term. Where's the article for gold/extp/etc. farming?

To the YKTTWmobile!

Anyway, now we can get back to this trope name.

... I keep on reading the title as One Up Sanpo and getting a totally different meaning out of it.
Slight correction, the sampo is not from norse mythology.

Okay, I goofed there.

I always thought Sampo sounded like a kind of dance, like, a dance that gets more one ups. Guess I was wrong.

On that note, The Ridill is an absolutely HORRIBLE name. No redirects and it's about some extremely obscure sword from Final Fantasy 11.

Go ahead and make a topic for that. I will support it.

Anyway, do you think we have a consensus, or should we have a rename crowner?

It definitely needs a rename. Has anyone offered a defense? It didn't go through YKTTW, as far as I can tell, so it didn't get the third of the three rules of three (three people who agree the name is good).
'He strutted across the bedroom, his hard manhood pointing the way' sounds like he owns a badly named seeing-eye dog. 'Sit, Hard Manhood!
I support a rename. A Google search reveals that the trope title isn't an existing term, and the reference is pretty obscure (I've never heard of it, anyway.) In its defense, there isn't any misuse, but it's only found in 33 articles, and only brought 11 people to this wiki, so there isn't any big cost to renaming it.

Alternative name suggestions: One Ups To Infinity or Bonus Life Loop. Eternal Existance Exploitation is too general for a videogame exclusive trope, but it sounds nice so I'm mentioning it.

^ Which I'm not convinced is tropeable/separable in its own right. (But that's a different topic.)

Aye, direct your complaints to the YKTTW.

Bonus Life Loop sounds like another trope... a 1up a bit after a checkpoint and a bit before a really tricky bit. It's a loop because you get the 1 up, die, get the 1 up, die, get the 1 up... I should probably run that through YKTTW (maybe later), though I don't think I'd use Bonus Life Loop, pretty sure I can come up with something better...

Anyways. There is a preexisting term for this One Up Sampo thing in the gaming community which is Infinite 1-Ups or Infinite Lives. It doesn't -necessarily- have to refer to a Cheat Code that makes your lives never run out, though that's where the name came from. I personally favor Infinite 1-Ups because it references the 1-Up items and helps to differentiate it from infinite lives gotten through a Cheat Code. It's fairly self-explanatory as a title too.

Infinite 1-Ups works. Infinite Lives can be confused for games that don't actually use lives whatsoever and just kick you back to the latest checkpoint, no matter how often.

Wow, we don't already have Infinite Lives? I agree that Infinite 1-Ups works, even if it's a gross exaggeration.

I like One Up Sampo, though I'll admit only because I know what a Sampo is.

One Up Fountain? Spews Forth Extra Lives?

Infinite Lives and variations sounds like a cheat code.

One Up Combo? Infinite does sound like a cheat while this is an inuniverse combo that generates 1 or more lives that can be chained.

Infinite 1-Ups is best. Infinite Lives seems more like a cheat code.

I like One Up Farming, personally.

Infinite Life Loop?

Vote up names you like, vote down names you don't. Whether or not the name will actually be changed is determined with a different kind of Crowner (the Single Proposition crowner). This one just collects and ranks alternative names.
