How much will you be willing to bet that there's a catch to this?

There's always a price to pay - question is, are you willing to pay?

Well, probably not since I don't even have the game.

Though two gigabytes might be the price if I download it and installed it.

Relentlessly Negative
I'm wondering exactly what this will involve, myself. Hopefully, Paragon will make NC see reason without getting things TOO far into the "monetize that shit" abyss.

Or, they may convince NC Soft to let the game be fan-run.

[up][up]Psh, I tried to click on plaques in real life.
Is it God Knows...?
I just received an email from City Of Heroes and felt it necessary to share it.

Although it is one of the toughest decisions we've had to make, we will close City of HeroesŪ on November 30, 2012, and conclude this wonderful chapter in our history.

We thank you for being with us every step of the way, for sharing our challenges, and for encouraging us to consistently improve City of Heroes. We couldn't have done it without you.

The development team enjoyed crafting City of Heroes into such a beloved game, and we hope you will focus on the good things you remember about playing rather than dwelling on the "how" and the "why" of this decision.

To honor City of Heroes and the impact it has had on its players and in our hearts, we plan on hosting several events. We'll share exact details and the timing of these events shortly, so please keep an eye out for further information posted in the City of Heroes forums.

If you have any questions about recurring billing and outstanding account balances, please visit our FAQ page.

This saddens me greatly.

Open letter on the site.

"We wanted to let you know that your voices have been heard and your concerns have been taken into serious consideration. We appreciate the overwhelmingly constructive and positive messages in the emails, notes, and packages you've sent in support of the game. It has not been an easy decision for us to close Paragon Studios and prepare to shut down City of Heroes. We've exhausted all options including the selling of the studio and the rights to the City of Heroes intellectual property, but in the end, efforts to do so were not successful. City of Heroes has a special place in all of our hearts, and we want to ensure its reputation and the memories we share for the game end on a high note.

Once again, we will be holding events throughout the process of preparing for the game's end, and we encourage players and fans of the franchise to join forces and enjoy their time in a game that we've enjoyed supporting for more than eight years."

Going Forth!
From what I can tell, Most fans of the game are furious about it closing, Part of the problem was that that announcement was given with little warning.
[up]

It was sudden because all indications are the game was profitable. Just their least profitable game. Therefore a good thing to cut to appear to be streamlining the company.

Gunpla is amazing!
They did it to report it as a loss and get a tax break.

Rot in hell NC Soft.

Why do you have to publish one of my favorite games ever...

15 minutes...

Gunpla is amazing!
Its over ._.

Game Over. Try Again?
I came on for the last two hours on Justice. Everyone stood on the steps of City Hall holding a torch in mourning. I watched the Paragon Studios Sunset stream where they ran around doing crazy stuff like spawning Hamidons in front of city hall and saying their final goodbyes.

The worst part wasn't the shutdown of the game itself, it was when immediately afterwards the devs streamed their deletion of the official Twitter and Facebook accounts and announced the official forums and site were gone. NCsoft really went all out in destroying absolutely everything related to City of Heroes in a 15 minute timespan. This is one of the most painful cases of a good thing getting screwed in recent memory. NC Soft will never see a penny out of me again.

Seriously, fuck those guys.
Needs a new signature.
Gunpla is amazing!
I heard they did it to count it as a loss and get a tax refund...

... and just to twist the knife, if you check NCSoft's list of games on the placeholder page that is now at www.cityofheroes.com... it still lists City of Heroes as one of their games! Jerks >.<

So, after having played City of Heroes since Alpha testing... I suppose the question is, where to now? My wife and I are taking a spin through The Old Republic, and enjoying it quite a bit so far, but we aren't sure about the community there, or even really how to get involved. And I'm also unsure because I'm having World of Warcraft flashbacks after one day of playing >.O

[up]If they are going to do that....all I ask is for a upgrade on the graphics and I am sold. I loved City of Heroes/Villians when I was a kid. That game's customization to me was a holy grail at the time, and it had one of the best communities I have seen in any online game too....probably one of the only games where assholes where not rampant and any that were around were pretty much ostracized (I remember that there was a thread on the forums that had people share there encounters with those type of players)

I want to believe.

[up][up]Unlikely since they'd probably bring it back up to the last update. If it does go into Missing World's hands you'd have to wait for City of Titans for your graphical upgrade.
Is it God Knows...?
The system doesn't know you right now, so no post button for you.
You need to Get Known to get one of those.
